which version of Mac OS X you re running. If you re not sure, go to the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. No matter which version you have, open Mail to get started.

3 Apple Mail Setup Guide (POP3)... To set up Mail to access your account on Mac OS X, follow these instructions. You will need to know the following information before you get started: Your address Your password Your server Getting Started The setup procedure is slightly different depending on which version of Mac OS X you re running. If you re not sure, go to the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. No matter which version you have, open Mail to get started. You can click the Mail icon in the Dock, or open the Applications folder and double-click the Mail icon there. If you are starting Mail for the first time, you will automatically be prompted to set up a new account. If you are running Mac OS X 10.4, skip to the section titled Account Setup 10.4 Tiger on page 7. If you are running Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6, skip to the section titled Account Setup 10.5 Leopard / 10.6 Snow Leopard on page 4. If you are running some other version, we don t have specific instructions available but hopefully it should be close enough that you can figure it out from here. Add Your New Account If you already have an existing account set up, you can simply add your new Smarsh account. To set up your new account, go to the Mail menu and choose Preferences (or press -comma). Click the Accounts button at the top (if it s not already selected), then click the *++ button in the bottom left corner Page 3 of 10

4 If you are running Mac OS X 10.4 or older, skip to the section titled Account Setup 10.4 Tiger on page 7. Otherwise, continue to the next section. Account Setup 10.5 Leopard / 10.6 Snow Leopard Begin by entering your name, your address, and your password. Click Continue. Page 4 of 10

5 Incoming Mail Server Settings You should now be asked to enter the settings for the incoming mail server. The Account Type should be POP. The Description can be Smarsh, or the name of your company this is only used as a label in Mail so if you have multiple accounts set up, you can keep track of them easily. For the Incoming Mail Server, enter the server name you were given (do not actually type example.smarsh.com as shown here; this is just an example). Change the User Name to your full address, not just the first part. Your Password should already be filled in. Click Continue. Page 5 of 10

6 Outgoing Mail Server Settings You will now be asked to provide settings for the outgoing mail server. For the Description, enter Smarsh. For the Outgoing Mail Server, enter the same server name that you entered for the Incoming Mail Server, and be sure Use only this server is checked. Check the box for Use Authentication. The username and password should already be filled in. Click Continue. Page 6 of 10

7 Account Summary That s it! Click Create, and you should now be able to send and receive mail on your new Smarsh account. Account Setup 10.4 Tiger To get started setting up your new Smarsh account, click the Continue button. Page 7 of 10

8 General Information Set the Account Type to POP. The Account Description can be Smarsh, or the name of your company this is only used as a label in Mail so if you have multiple accounts set up, you can keep track of them easily. Enter your Full Name and Address, then click Continue. Incoming Mail Server Settings For the Incoming Mail Server, enter the server name you were given (do not actually type example.smarsh.com as shown here; this is just an example). 9 Outgoing Mail Server Settings For the Outgoing Mail Server, enter the same server name you entered as the incoming server. Check the box for Use Authentication. Enter your address as the User Name, and enter your Password. Click Continue. Account Summary That s it! Click Continue to create your new account. Page 9 of 10
