1 Due to the district-wide elimination of 7 th grade sports, Summit Middle School, in conjunction with Johnston Community Education, is pleased to offer the following options for incoming 6 th and 7 th grade students at SMS: Physicals are recommended by not required for all Summit After School Sports. If school is cancelled or dismissed all after school activities will be cancelled. Check the Summit website for any weather related cancellations or postponements. 6 th /7 th Grade Girls Volleyball Students will be taught correct volleyball fundamentals and game strategy by an experienced volleyball coach, while also emphasizing teamwork, work ethic, safety, sportsmanship, and fun. Each week, students will participate in two practices and 1 game in which they will play other Summit After School volleyball participants. Session will last approximately 21 days, ranging from August 27 October 15. Sessions will take place in the Summit gymnasium from 3:00-4:30. Times may be adjusted depending on the number of participants. Students will learn correct form, work ethic, safe training methods, and beginner track meet information and experience. Session will take place from April 4, 2016 April 28, 2016 on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:00-4:30 at either the Summit gymnasium or outdoor track and field area. Times may be adjusted based on number of participants. Class times may vary depending on the activity and day held. Please note there will always be adult supervision of students registered for any of these activities. 3 2. Archery: The popularity of archery has been increasing. Movies like The Hunger Games has peaked kid's interest in target archery. Come learn the basics of this growing sport from a certified archery instructor. All equipment will be provided. Separate divisions for 6 th grade and 7 th grade. Games will be 7-on-7, with a maximum of 10 girls per team. 4 8. Floor Hockey: Check out the fast paced sport of floor hockey and work alongside your teammates to learn some hockey skills.
