1 Common Curriculum Map Discipline: Physical Education Course: PE - 9 Floor Hockey: 19-A, 19-B, 19-C 20-A, 21-A, 21-B Why is it important to demonstrate proper technique and strategy in a game situation? What are the consequences in not executing correct safety measure at all times? How can one exhibit knowledge of rules and officiating during play? What are the benefits of displaying appropriate floor hockey skills in a game situation? History, positions, scoring, rules, basic skills and strategies, penalties, equipment, play area, safety, sportsmanship, terms. Student will identify the origination of floor hockey. Student will demonstrate player positions, penalties, rules, playing area and scoring during game play. Student will perform the following skills: passing, stick handling, backhand shot, trapping and shooting. Written test and quiz. Skills test: Passing, shooting, trapping. Volleyball: 19-A, 19-B, 19-C 20-A, 21-A, 21-B Why is it important to demonstrate proficiency in the execution of skills (i.e. forearm pass, set and serve) during a game situation? What are some ways to demonstrate knowledge of team strategies as required by game situations during play? Why is it necessary to exhibit knowledge of rules and scoring during game play? What are the benefits of developing an appreciation of volleyball? History, Scoring(rally), Rules, Rotation, Basic Skills and Strategies Student will verbalize correct scoring during game play. Student will demonstrate proper rotation during game play.

2 Student will identify general rules both verbally and written. Student will demonstrate the following skills: serve, bump-pass, set. Written test and quiz Skills test-serve for accuracy, bump pass Soccer: 19A 19C 20A 21A 21B What are the appropriate skill techniques utilized in the course content for soccer? Why is it important to exhibit socially acceptable behavior and provide examples of good sportsmanship and fair play in soccer? How can one contribute to the team effort by executing appropriate skills and strategy in soccer? What are the benefits of developing an appreciation and understanding of the skills and intricate team patterns of soccer? Positions, scoring, rules, fundamental skills, terms, playing area, equipment, strategies, and sportsmanship. Students will demonstrate the ability to execute the following skills: passing, dribbling, throw-ins, trapping, offense and defense maneuvers. Students will identify the four soccer positions: goalie, forward, mid-fielder, and defender Written- Unit Exam Skills Test- Trapping and Passing Flag Football:

3 Goal 21B- Students who meet the standard can demonstrate individual responsibilities during group Why are there identifiable techniques used in Flag Football? Is there an appropriate way to participate in a football contest and contribute to the team effort by executing suitable skills? Why is it important to exhibit socially acceptable behavior and sportsmanship when participating in Flag Football? What are the benefits of developing an appreciation and understanding of the skills and team patterns of Flag Football? Scoring, rules, penalties, terminology, playing area, equipment, Pass routes, penalties, sportsmanship Student will demonstrate proper throwing and receiving techniques. Student will identify major rules and penalties of Flag Football including clipping, stiff arm, blocking below the waist, tackling, 1st downs, fumbled ball, receivers, rushing and 1-4 downs. Student will differentiate between the slant, the out, and the post patterns. Student will demonstrate how to properly carry the football. Written-Quiz and/or test Skills test- Throwing and receiving skill Swimming: Goal 20A- Students who meet the standard know and can apply principles and components of healthrelated Goal 21B- Students who meet the standard can demonstrate cooperative skills during structured group What are the benefits of learning how to swim? Stroke mechanics, terms, safety, rules, diving, water aerobics, endurance swim

4 Due to the nature of the content, differential instruction is utilized in this unit. Therefore students are assessed individually on the following skills, i.e. overcoming fear of water. Non-swimmers - Student will put face in water. Student will hold side of pool and kick. Student will prone float and demonstrate breathing technique with wall. Student will swim with kick board in shallow area. Beginners - Student will demonstrate the proper stroke mechanics for the following strokes; freestyle, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, backstroke. Student will demonstrate the jellyfish float, dead man float and back float. Student will demonstrate the ability to tread water. Advanced swimmers - Beginners content and student will demonstrate proper racing dive. Student will demonstrate underwater swimming. Student will demonstrate surface dive. Participation: Student will be graded based on their level of participation. Skill test: Student will be tested on their ability to swim using the different strokes taught. Written test: Student will be tested through a multiple choice, true false quiz. Dancing: Criss strategy: Web Discussion Goal 20A- Students who meet the standard know and can apply principles and components of healthrelated Goal 21B- Students who meet the standard can demonstrate cooperative skills during structured group What are the benefits of recreational dance? How are traditional dances different from each other? Why is it important to be aware of traditional norms and etiquette of dance? History, Recreational benefits Dances: Ballroom, folk and contemporary dances

5 Students will demonstrate the proper steps of the following folk dances: Waltz, Cha-Cha, Meringue, Salsa, and Greensleeves. Students will demonstrate the proper steps of the following contemporary dances: electric slide, cha-cha slide, YMCA, Macarena, and the chicken dance. Students will demonstrate proper steps of ballroom dancing. Written Quiz/Test Skills test: Waltz, box step, traveling step and traveling turn Cha-Cha, half turn, full turn and basic step. Greensleeves, general formation Floor Hockey: Goal 20A- Students who meet the standard know and can apply principles and components of healthrelated Goal 21B- Students who meet the standard can demonstrate cooperative skills during structured group Why is it important to demonstrate proper technique and strategy in a game situation? What are the benefits of developing an appreciation and understanding of the skills and team strategies of softball? History, rules, positions, equipment, safety-rules, PE rules, strategy. The student will be able to consistently catch a thrown or batted softball using proper form. The student will be able to demonstrate proper form from fielding ground, rolling, and bouncing balls. The student will be able to hit a pitched ball using proper batting techniques. Written test/quiz. throwing and catching. Pickleball: Criss strategies: Web discussion, K-W-L chart

7 Goal 20A- Students who meet the standard know and can apply principles and components of healthrelated Goal 20B- Students who meet the standard can assess individual fitness levels. Goal 20C- Students who meet this standard can set goals based upon fitness date and develop, implement and monitor and individual fitness improvement plan. Goal 21B- Students who meet the standard can demonstrate individual responsibilities during group History of pickleball, Scoring in pickleball, Rules of pickleball, Fundamental skills needed to play pickleball, Strategies in playing pickleball, Single/Doubles Play, Court Sizes, and Terminology used in pickleball. Demonstrate the proper grip (handshake grip), Execute and utilize the fundamental skills needed to play pickleball (forehand shot, backhand shot, underhand serve, volley, dink or drop shot, lob shot and smash.) The student will be able to identify the basic rules of pickleball The student will be able to demonstrate the basic pickleball shots: serve, forehand, backhand, lob, passing, smash. The student will be able to develop strategies for offense and defense. Performance/skill assessment and written test on content. Participation - Student will be assessed through daily participation Evaluations - Student will participate in team play of pickleball. Written Test - Student will be assessed through a multiple-choice, T/F quiz Dancing: Criss strategy: Web Discussion Goal 20A- Students who meet the standard know and can apply principles and components of healthrelated

8 Goal 21B- Students who meet the standard can demonstrate cooperative skills during structured group Folk Dancing; Ballroom Dancing, Social Dancing Waltz, Cha-Cha, Swing, Salsa, Foxtrot, Electric Slide, Cha-Cha Slide Miserlou, Greensleeves, Virgina REEL, Macarena, Hockey-Pokey, Bunny Hop Horah Leading and following, practice and demonstrate different dance steps and be able to execute movements in time to rhythm and beat. Students will be able to demonstrate the basic movements of dance. Students will be bale to identify the different steps in the different dances. Written and practical or skill test. Participation will be used when assessing students.
