1 CRITERIA FOR Frming A GROUP 1. Infrm yur cmmunity If yu want t represent yur parish r cmmunity, speak with the yuth minister, the pastr r a cmmunity leader abut frming a WYD grup. Share what mtivates yu t frm a WYD grup Tell them abut the three steps f WYD: Preparatin (Life befre WYD) The WYD pilgrimage - Cultural and turism - Days in the dicese (20-25 f July 2016) - Wrld Yuth Days (26-31 f July 2016) Fllw-up (Life after WYD) Present yur needs (spiritual prep, lcatin, financing, etc.) Prpse smene as a grup leader Establish a cmmunicatin prtcl fr each step f the pilgrimage 2. Name a grup leader Every WYD grup must name ne grup leader wh will be in cnstant cmmunicatin with the cmmunity leader (pastr, yuth minister, etc.). This persn will als be the representative f the grup t the Missin Jeunesse-Yuth Ministry WYD team and be in cmmunicatin with them fr all crdinatin befre and during WYD (depsits, registratins, crdinatin during the trip, etc.). Missin Jeunesse-Yuth Ministry team strngly encurages yung adults (18-35 years ld) t take an imprtant respnsibility in their WYD grup. Yung peple are an integral part f ur Church-Bdy f Christ and f Sciety. It is therefre imprtant t encurage them and t cncretely prpse that they be invlved in bth, the rganizatin f lcal activities and in large-scaled prjects, like the internatinal WYD. Grup leaders must be appinted by their cmmunity r have an acceptable reference and have filled ut the grup leader attestatin frm. The grup leader must fit the criteria utlined fr the rle. (See Prfile and Respnsibilities f the grup leader)

2 3. Name an assistant grup leader Each grup must name an assistant grup leader. This persn can attend WYD grup leader meetings and help the grup leader with internal respnsibilities (i.e. management f registratins, spiritual preparatin, etc.). In case f absence during the pilgrimage in Krakw, the grup leader may delegate an assistant t insure internal grup crdinatin, as well as all cmmunicatin with the Missin Jeunesse-Yuth Ministry WYD crdinatin team. The assistant grup leader must be appinted by their cmmunity r have an acceptable reference and have filled ut the grup leader attestatin frm. The assistant grup leader can als be a sub-grup leader wh fits the criteria utlined fr the rle (See Prfile and Respnsibilities f the grup leader) 4. Inviting yuth and the cmmunity Netwrking: Cntact yuth thrugh varius means: Parish, high schl, CEGEP, university r mvements. Present the prject t yur Christian Cmmunity. Invite members f yur cmmunity t discuss the prject with yuth in their families. Organize an infrmatin evening fcusing n the Internatinal WYD Pilgrimage and invite yuth wh have previusly participated t give a witness talk n their experience. If yu already lived WYD, share yur experiences! D nt simply speak abut the days themselves, but witness t the graces yu have received. Let yur jy g frth t inspire the yung peple and their parents!

Organize Infrmatin Sessins This is an imprtant step it allws yu t: Gather interested yuth and get thers interested as well Unite participants in the pilgrimage Distribute imprtant infrmatin The gal f these sessins is fr ptential pilgrims t discern their participatin at WYD. These days can be a great faith experience, but the desire t participate has t cme frm them. The persn wh invited the yuth can als accmpany them, fr it is imprtant t realize that the pilgrimage starts with the discernment n whether r nt t g. An rganizing meeting shuld include: Histry f WYD The prpsed spiritual preparatin prgram Travel package details Respnsibilities f the grup, the yuth and the grup leaders Technical infrmatin regarding WYD Apprximate csts f the packages Meeting dates and times fr package crdinatrs Whatever means yu use fr disseminatin f infrmatin, it is very imprtant that yu present a realistic prject t each yung persn s that they understand exactly what they are signing up fr as well as the implicatins f this cmmitment. 6. Organise a WYD discernment sessin In additin t WYD inf sessin, an evening r a retreat may help the yung peple discern their participatin in WYD. WYD is lived nt nly by thse getting n the plane t Krakw, but als by thse in the cmmunity wh supprt the initiative financially r thrugh prayer. We prpse inviting different members f the cmmunity t get invlved in animating r crdinating this sessin. It s a very gd way t implicate yung adults wh have gne t past WYDs. In additin t the elements f an inf sessin, yur discernment event can include : Animated prayer sessins Musical r theatrical presentatins n the themes Presence and witness f yung peple wh have been t past WYDs, etc.

4 7. A mutually discerned decisin It is als necessary t discern befre inviting smene (easiest t d in ne-n-ne meetings). Internatinal WYD is demanding n many levels and the persn needs t be balanced, mature, with a gd spirit f faith and cmmunin. Fresee : Schedule a ne-n-ne meeting t utline and clarify the cmmitment. Ask the persn t write a letter f mtivatin t see if they are serius. Present the Prfile and Respnsibilities f a pilgrim Present the WYD grup service teams Sign a cntract between yu and the pilgrim. Bth parties cmmit t respecting the guidelines fr a successful endeavur. Keep the letter and cntract during the whle pilgrimage. In case f truble, refer t these dcuments. 8. Chse a package The chice f package is an imprtant step t cnsider in yur WYD preparatins. The Yuth Ministry WYD crdinatin team suggests yu use the fllwing the criteria when chsing a package : It is strngly suggested that the package chice be nt nly apprved by the grup leader and the pilgrims wh are ging t WYD, but als by the cmmunity that supprt the prject thrugh their prayers and finances. If yu wish that all the pilgrims in yur grup share the same travel itinerary and accmmdatins: 1. Yu must chse ne package fr the whle grup. 2. All pilgrims in yur grup must register and make their first depsits at the same time. 9. Chse yur grup language During the WYD event itself, catechesis is ffered by language. Each grup is therefre assigned t a catechesis site. Smetimes, this site is als where yu will get sme f yur meals. It is therefre very imprtant t chse ENGLISH r FRENCH fr yur grup, even if yu cmmunicate in bth languages internally. 10. Determine the size f yur grup A big part f WYD is living the experience f cmmunity and fellwship. In rder t live a better experience, the Missin Jeunesse-Yuth Ministry WYD crdinatin team recmmends grups f 10 pilgrims r less. We strngly recmmend that large grups frm sub-grups f 10 pilgrims r less, each with their wn assistant grup leader. They can chse the same package, travel t WYD tgether, but nce arrived in Krakw, the crdinatin and the experience will be better in sub-grups. 5 Grups frm ther diceses: Missin Jeunesse encurages grups t participate in WYD with their lcal Bishp. In cases where this is nt a pssibility, Missin Jeunesse is happy t welcme yur grup t participate with the Archdicese f Mntreal WYD delegatin alng with all ther grups. In rder t register with Missin Jeunesse yu will need t fllw the same registratin prcedure. Grup leaders must prvide an Attestatin frm frm Yur Bishp, duly cmpleted when prviding the dcumentatin f yur grup. If yu are the Dicesan representative and are crdinating the participatin f several grups frm yur dicese but are nt travelling with them yu will need t name a grup leader fr each grup. Yu will be cpied n all cmmunicatin that will be dne with the grup leaders. Pilgrims with n grup (Individuals) If yu d nt have a grup, Missin Jeunesse can prpse grups that are available t welcme individual pilgrims. It is, hwever, nt guaranteed that we can find yu a grup. Als, d nt hesitate t invite yur friends and frm a grup. Yu are nt part f a grup? Frm yur wn grup! It nly takes three peple t frm a grup and t prceed with the registratin f yur grup!
