Having the ability t wrk frm a mbile stand pint helps the cunselr reach mre students wh may nt be able t attend a brick and mrtar schl n a regular basis. Allws the nn-traditinal student access t cunseling services that he r she might nt have accessed therwise. The cunselr adjusts wrking hurs based n the needs f the majrity f students as well as individual students when needed. Services are prvided t students and families via phne, , chat rm, nline classrm, r in persn within the ffice, a public facility, r a hme visit. What services d e-students have access t? Many peple wrry that students wh attend an nline schl will lack scial skills r pprtunities fr scial interactin with their peers. Students can participate in extracurricular activities, including sprts, at their schl district f residence prvided that the student meets eligibility requirements. Students can participate in nline clubs and life skills grups (grup cunseling) via blackbard cllabrate, skype, r any ther vide cnferencing media. Sme believe that students in nline schls d nt get the same level f educatin that they wuld in a brick and mrtar schl. On the cntrary: students wh participate in an nline schl have access t ne-n-ne and small grup instructin as well as individual educatin plans and 50 plans. Students can participate in cllege credit plus fr an added challenge bth n campus and nline. Students can wrk at their wn pace in rder t custmize their educatin t their individual needs. Anna attends this schl with an ed chice vucher. She cmes frm an inner city district where she was nt being challenged academically due t a lack f resurces. She is bilingual and identified as gifted. She tk the ACT this year and scred a 7 n her first try. She was accepted int the cllege credit plus prgram at the lcal cmmunity cllege, but her parents d nt have reliable transprtatin t get her there. Anna s classmates are nt accepting f her differences and she is ften stracized frm her classmates r teased. She des nt feel safe in her new schl and as a result, her grades are drpping, and her self-esteem is suffering. Hw culd nline schling and cunseling benefit Anna? Mike currently lives full time with his single mther in Cincinnati, Ohi. His father is remarried with tw small children in Clumbus, Ohi. Mike has just started playing n a Junir Olympic hckey team that requires him t travel ften and train at least 30 hurs a week. He is currently a junir in high schl and a decent student, but finds it hard t keep up n his classwrk because he misses schl frequently due t his hckey schedule. Hckey has the ptential t lead t either a cllege schlarship r a career upn graduatin. In additin t his newfund difficulties in schl, Mike is beginning t feel depressed abut the changes in his relatinship with his father. When students are being bullied fr an extended perid f time, n lnger feel safe, and miss an excessive amunt f schl. Students wh need t wrk t help supprt the family. Students wh participate in travel sprts r ther activities that require 0 r mre hurs per week f training. Students with health impairments that cause them t miss excessive amunts f schl. Students wh d nt have reliable transprtatin t schl and bussing is nt ffered. Students wh want t participate in Cllege Credit Plus fr mre than half their schl day. Students wh benefit mre frm ne-n-ne r small grup instructin. Students wh need mre r less supervisin with their schl wrk due t being academically advanced r behind. Varius ther reasns Clsing Remarks The wrld f nline cunseling is still relatively new within the field. With that being said, it is an aspect t cunseling that will nly cntinue t grw as technlgy becmes mre prevalent in ur everyday lives. Currently, little research is available n the benefits f nline cunseling; hwever, the research that is available is favrable. Cntinued research is crucial in develping this part f the prfessin as well as prfessinal training in nline cunseling fr emerging cunselrs.
