The studies and data collection have been carried out systematically and meticulously as per relevant IS codes, CPCB & MOEF guidelines and the data collected for these parameters are given in this report. For the purpose of the study, the area is divided into two zones, namely core and buffer zones. Core zone covers Ha of Private Patta land with no forest or agricultural areas involved. View of the mine area is shown in Enclosure 18 and satellite image of the quarry site is shown in Figure No 2. The buffer zone covers an area of 10 km radius from the periphery of the ML area. The nearest habitation is more than 250 m away from the lease boundary. Only natural plantation predominantly rubber trees, some patches of vegetation and a few scattered habitations are available within 500m radius from the lease (Refer Plate No - 14 of Approved mine plan). The principal objective of the Ambient Air Quality Monitoring (AAQM) is to assess the existing levels of ambient air quality in and around the lease area. This will form as a base for assessing the impact on air quality in future on commencement of mining operation. With the above objective, the following parameters were analyzed at the sampling locations established in the study area. Particulate Matter (PM 10 ) Particulate Matter (PM 2.5 ) Sulphur Dioxide Oxides of Nitrogen Carbon Monoxide DESIGN CRITERIA FOR AMBIENT AIR QUALITY MONITORING STUDY NETWORK: Ambient Air quality has been assessed through a net-work of 3 ambient air quality stations. The following methodology has been considered for design of ambient air quality monitoring network in the area. Topography / terrain of study area. Populated areas within study area. Residential /sensitive areas within study area. Magnitude of surrounding industries Representation of regional background levels. Representation of cross sectional distribution in down wind direction Predominant wind direction and wind pattern Creative Engineers & Consultants, Chennai

The methodology adopted is briefly described here under: Particulate Matter (PM 10 ) - Gravimetric (IS 5182: Part 23:2006) Particulate Matter (PM 2.5 ) - Gravimetric Sulphur Dioxide - Calorimetric (West & Gaeke Method) (IS 5182: Part 02: 2001) Oxides of Nitrogen - Calorimetric (Modified Jacob & Hocheiser Method) (IS 5182: Part 06:2006) Carbon Monoxide - CO Monitor The PM 10, PM 2.5, SO 2, NO 2 and CO are monitored as per prescribed guidelines/ methods DATA ANALYSIS: The AAQ monitored data for all locations for above parameters are shown in Enclosure - 25A. From the data it is seen that, in the ambient air, the PM 10 values were in the range from 39.8 to 53.5µg/m 3. PM 2.5 values were in the range from 17.2 to 24.5µg/m 3. SO 2 levels were ranging from BDL (D.L.3.0) to 4.3µg/m 3. NO 2 levels were ranging from 6.8 to 8.9µg/m 3. While comparing with the NAAQ Norms, all monitored PM 10, PM 2.5, SO 2 and NO 2 values were found to be well within the respective limit values of 100µg/m 3, 60 µg/m 3, 80 µg/m 3 and 80 µg/m 3.The CO values in all the locations found to be below detectable limit (Detectable limit µg/m 3 ). 78 Application for Environmental Clearance for Granite Building Stone Quarry of M/s. Al Nassar Granites (P) LTD in Uzhamalakkal village, Nedumangad Taluk, Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala for an Extent of Ha GENERAL: Sound can be defined as atmospheric or air vibration perceptible to ear. Noise is usually unwanted or undesired sound. Consequently, particular sound can be noise to one person and not to others or noise at one time and not at other time. Hence sound enough to be harmful is called noise without regard to its characteristics. Noise is a form of pollution because it can cause hearing impairment and psychological stresses. This being a working mine, the noise level measurement in the core zone and nearby buffer zone area was carried out to evaluate the impact on noise environment due to mining operation. Noise level measurements were taken at the selected locations using noise level meter. Noise level measurements were taken during the mine working period MONITORING LOCATIONS & METHODOLOGY: Noise measurements were carried out using Lutron SL 4001 sound level meter at 3 monitoring locations. LOCATION CODE NN1 NN2 NN3 LOCATION Near Lease Area Kathikanpara Iravoor DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION: The results of noise levels for all locations are given in Enclosure - 25C. From the table It is observed that the existing noise level in the core zone location (NN1) for day equivalent & night equivalent is 42.5dB(A) & 38.9dB(A) which is below the work zone exposure limit of 90 db(a). In the buffer zone, the day equivalent ranged between 45.6dB(A) to48.1db(a)& night equivalent ranged between 39.5dB(A) to 40.7 db(a) which is below the CPCB Norms of 55dB(A) for day time & 45 db(a) for night time in Residential areas SOIL CHARACTERISTICS: GENERAL: Soil is defined as the naturally deposited, unconsolidated material which covers the earth s surface, whose chemical, physical properties are capable of plant growth. Soil itself is very complex. Soil contains mineral particles, air, water and organic matter. Creative Engineers & Consultants, Chennai
