YOGESH DUNDAPPA CHAVAN Halkarni, Taluka- Gadhinglaj, Dist- Kolhapur 1.0 Brief Introduction: Chavan Stone crusher is a quarry operator experienced in the field of building stones extraction, bricks manufacturing, and crusher for building raw materials and supply to the local peoples. Shri.Yogesh Dundappa Chavan is a pattadhar (owner) of Sy..396 of Halkarni Village over a total area of 2.5 Acres (1.00 Ha). The said land has been converted as non-agriculture for the purpose of small scale industries. Before granting the quarry area, the district collector & mining officer advised to obtain environmental clearance from Department of Environment, Govt. of Maharashtra. Accordingly the Report is prepared along with application form 1, PFR & EMP for the approval. 1.1 Need of the project: Demand for Building Stone is increasing by many folds with more & more constructions in the country. Maharashtra is one of the important state where rich building stone deposit is found. Quarrying for building stone production is an important economic activity contributing significantly to the state revenue. This is also generating lot of employment to the local people and help improving socio-economic status of the people around the quarry. The region is economically backward mostly depends on seasonal farming. The per capita income of the villagers is much below the national average. As a result of this project various facilities like educational medical social benefits will get augmented in the area. In view of the above, the Chavan Stone crusher intends to produce Basalt stone from Sy.no.396 Halkarni Village, Tal-,Gadhinglaj, Dist- Kolhapur, Maharastra.. Environmental Management Plan Scientifically maintained The above details are given in the following sections. 1.2 Location & Accessibility The quarry area falls in Sy.no. 396 Halkarni Village, Gadhinglaj Taluka, Kolhapur District, Maharashtra. The quarry is located at a distance of 8 Km from Sankeshwar town. The area can be approached in all seasons from Sankeshwar Town. The Halkarni Village is at a distance of 3 Kms from quarry. The nearest Railway station Pachapur 8 km.the nearest Airport is at Belgaum 40 km. 2.0 Introduction of the project/ Background information. 2.1 Identification of project and project proponent. Chavan Stone crusher is having crusher, & other building materials to meet the requirement of the locals. Besides, experienced in the field of building stones extraction, road metal extraction. Considering the experience and request and to meet the raw materials for our own quarry has been applied to GoM. 2.2 Brief description of the nature of the project The Chavan stone quarry will be operated for building stone in a systemic way. 2.3 Demand and supply gap As the population increases, the infrastructure such as construction of buildings are also increasing which are all essential requirement. Therefore, there is a lot of demand for the building materials increases by many fold also there is a good demand in the local market. The present production is lesser than the demand in the local. However, some of the quantity could be able to supply to fulfill the requirement of the locals. 2.4 Imports vs. Indigenous production. There is no need of any material by importing for this project. 14 2.5 Export Possibility. There are no possibilities for export the material as it is being used in domestic purpose. 2.6 Domestic / export Markets. There is a good demand for local market. 2.7 Employment Generation (Direct & indirect due to the project) The man power requirement for the Chavan Building Stone Quarry operation for producing Basalt is given below. Mineral occurrence is a site specific, non renewable resource. Quarrying has to be carried out where the building stones are available. Therefore, alternative site selection cannot be possible for the building stones or mining projects. 3.2 Size or magnitude of operation. Chavan Stone quarry covering an area of 2.5 Acre only. All the quarry activities are confined within this area. The operation will be carried out by manual method. But there is no deep hole drilling and blasting. The total no. of Page 14 of 23

15 employment will be 12 people for the proposed production and associated activities. From the above it could be summarized that the quarry operations and connected activities are in the micro level and there is no impact on environmental parameters. 3.3 Project description with process details (a schematic diagram/ flow chart showing the project layout, components of the project etc. should be given) Development and extraction of building stones is planned from this quarry. Plain quarrying with single/high bench/low bench/multiple high bench/low bench. Though the above quarrying methods are adopted as per the site condition, but the general procedure s to be adopted in development and extraction of building stone is Clearing of bushes, removal of topsoil and overburden weathered rock to expose the sheet rock or boulder. Developing face by key cut or channels cut for extraction of building stone from sheet rock. The building stone which recovered will be directly supplied to the buyer and sent to crusher to bring it to the required size specification by the buyer. 3.4 GEOLOGY & RESERVES GEOLOGY: The Chavan stones quarry is located on the boundary of close pet Basalt band running from Karnataka to Maharashtra. Basalt gneiss band running Strike direction N 15 0 W. The major litho logical formation observed in the area are soil cover Basalt band. SOIL COVER: Most of the area covered with soil at a depth of 0.2 to 1.2mtrs at top. This is Red soil, which is suitable for agriculture & afforestation purpose BASALT Basalt is the predominant rock type found in this area. It is well exposed all over the quarry area. The entire deposit is a flat terrine, the exhibit foliation predominantly on the weathered surface. The rock having medium grain size and Page 15 of 23

16 the color varies from grey to pale grey and shows typical greasy luster. Since, it is a soft rock it is suitable for building stone purpose. 3.5 RESERVES Based on the study carried out, and survey carried out for preparation of geological plan, the insitu reserve has been calculated for the Chavan stone quarry. The norm used for calculation of reserves is by counting square method. The sectional area marked on cross sections for depth persistence and geological plan for strike direction are taken into account to obtain the total volume and multiplied by bulk density of the rock. The building stones deposit exposed on the surface/old workings having an average width and average length has been considered. Considering the old workings depth and adjacent area excavation 6 mtrs depth taken for reserves calculation. 3.6 Quarrying technique: Development work will be carried out on the sheet rock is exposed. w free face will be created which will be accomplished through the conventional drill and blast for recovery of building stone. The following quarry techniques will be adopted for safe quarrying. ü Creation of free face by channel cut/key cut for extraction. ü Separation from sheet rock. ü Sizing a secondary block to the marketable size. ü Loading the material by using Shovel or manual method. ü The RoM will be transported to Crushing yard/crusher directly. ü The crusher established adjacent to the quarry. 3.7 Raw material required along with estimated quantity, likely source, marketing area of final product/s, Mode of transport of raw Material and Finished Product. There is no raw material required for this project. 3.8 Quantity of wastes to be generated (liquid and solid) and scheme for their Page 16 of 23

In order to achieve the expected production of Basalt stone, The waste stone will be stored in the yard designated for the purpose. 3.9 Schematic representations of the feasibility drawing which give information of EIA purpose. The quarry area falls in Sy.no.396 Halkarni Village, Gadhinglaj Taluka, Kolhapur District, Maharastra. The quarry is located at a distance of 8 Km from Sankeshwar town. The area can be approached in all seasons from Sankeshwar town. The Halkarni Village is at a distance of 3 Kms from quarry. The nearest Railway station Pachapur 8 km.the nearest Airport is at Belgaum 40 km. 4.2 Land Form, Land use and Land ownership. Page 17 of 23

18 The Chavan stone quarry area is a pattaland is owned by Mr. Chavan. The 7/12 extract is enclosed with application form 1. The entire area covered with Basalt deposit. There is no infrastructure in the area. 4.3 Existing land use pattern. Core zone The quarry area is covered with rocky exposure and some old workings also existing. 4.4 Existing Infrastructure. At present there is following infrastructures/machineries required for achieving the building stone material. Sl. This is block cottons soil, which suitable for agriculture & afforestation purpose. 4.6 Climatic data from secondary sources. Base line The important base line parameters were collected from the secondary source and data s are incorporated in this report. Based on the available data the environmental study has been carried out. The climate in the region is of tropical monsoon type. Semi arid to humid climatic conditions are the prevailing nature of the study area. It is observed that rain fall is mainly received during the period July to October. This experiences moderate climate in the winter and very temperate climate during summer Page 18 of 23

19 season. 4.7 Micro-Meteorology The Micro-Meteorological data such as Temperature, relative humidity & rain fall are collected from secondary source for Kolhapur district. Existing as well as upcoming projects will have some impact (adverse or beneficial) on the environment. The impact may alter the socio economic status of the society in dual ways. Hence, it is important to conduct socio-economic studies and assess the existing status and also the impacts envisaged by upcoming projects on the socioeconomic conditions of the study area. Information on the above said factor has been collected to define the socio-economic profile of the study area (5 km radius). The existing male female rates are appears to be lower compared to some advanced village area. This could be compensating by encouraging small scale industries in the backward areas, so that the following socio-economic aspects would be achieved. Improve the standard of leaving in the area. Increase per capita income. Good demand for local products Local employment opportunity. Education facilities. Medical facilities. Page 19 of 23

20 Revenue generation to the Govt. From the above statement it is clear that there is no impact on Environmental parameters from the Chavan stone quarry project. The quarry activities involve only extraction of stone from mother rock, which does not impact on environmental parameter. 5.0 Planning Brief This is a quarry operation, which involves removal of overburden and extraction of building stone from mother rock by using required machineries. The building stone extracted will be transported to local constructions activities. 5.1 Population Projection The project involves only 12 man powers, who are all engaged from the local peoples. 5.2 Amenities/Facilities. Chavan Stone crusher is a reputed quarry operator for the building stone. The required Amenities/Facilities for the employees will be provided as per the mines act & rules and directive from the respective authorities. 6.0 Proposed Infrastructure 6.1 Industrial Area (Processing Area). Chavan stone quarry area is 1.00 Ha only. There is no proposal for additional area for the project. 6.2 Residential Area (n Processing Area). There is no any proposal for residential area connected to this Chavan stone quarry. 6.3 Social Infrastructure. The CSR works proposed for Chavan stone quarry along with budgetary provisions are given below. 6.5 Connectivity (Traffic and Transportation Road/ Rail/Metro/Water ways etc). The area can be approached in all season. The carrying capacity of the existing road from quarry area is good enough. The building stones production of Page 20 of 23

21 Basalt Stone works out to be only 10 trucks /day will be added to the general traffic density. This additional traffic of 5 trucks will not be impact on traffic density as the road carrying capacity is more than 100 trucks/day. From the project some waste will be generated, of which about 40% will be used for environmental protective works such as gully plugs, retaining wall construction and remaining 60% will be stocked in the stock yard and which will be protected by construction of retaining wall all along the toe of the dump, garland drains at the higher level. 6.8 Power Requirement & Supply / source. 22 7. 00 Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R & R) Plan The project is located in the pattaland, covered with building stones. There is no any displacement of people, monuments, and residences. Therefore, rehabilitation and resettlement does not arise. 8.0 ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT PLAN: In order to attaining the desired objective of environmental quantity and sustainable quarry operations in and around the Chavan building stone quarry environmental management is must. The principal environmental parameters such as air, water, noise & land are considered for impact assessment and management. 8.1 Air Pollution Control Measures: Water sprinkling on haulage roads to suppress dust. Maintenance of haulage road slopes, removal of accumulated dusty Material on road regularly. Regular maintenance of earthmoving equipments and vehicles. Restriction on speed of vehicles. Greenbelt development. Periodical monitoring of air quality. 8.2 ise Mitigative Measures Regular maintenance of machinery and vehicles. Greenbelt development along the roads, quarry boundary & crusher. Providing ear muffles to the workers. 8.3 Water pollution control measures ü Check dams will be constructed at different locations across the nallah outside the quarry where ever necessary. ü Ground water recharging and rain water harvesting systems will be adopted in the quarry area. ü Drains shall be constructed to collect storm water and divert the same to the nearby nallahs. ü Adequate retention wall will be constructed all along the toe of the dump. 23 ü Garland drains formation in the appropriate place. ü Afforestation will be carried out in consultation with local forest authority for selection of species, in the green belt area, barren area, all along the road side and inactive dump areas. 9.0 Analysis of proposal (Final Recommendations) The building stones activity will help in improvement of the economic status of the people around the area. Building stones activities will benefit the local people and boost up the local market. The building stones reserves of this area are economically viable. The building stones activities will provide socio-economic benefits to the local peoples with direct & indirect employment opportunities. The regional benefits to the state in the form of Royalty, Cess, Taxes etc., Owner will provide medical facility to all the employees and medical checkup camps to the local villagers, contribution of funds for social and cultural programmes etc. Owner will protect the economic interest of the villagers of the affected area through their capability build up for sustainable development. Hence, there will be an overall a positive impact on socio-economics of people living in the villages. This project will meet the development needs of the local demand without causing any negative influence on the environment. It could be summarized that the development of Chavan stone Quarry will have a positive impact on the socio-economics of the area and lead to overall sustainable.
