INTRODUCTION CONTENTS At RADA we believe that everyone can benefit from the training provided by our exceptional tutors. We have therefore developed a variety of activities for schools and colleges, designed for both students and teachers, such as bespoke workshops and careers talks for students, Shakespeare certificate examinations and professional development sessions for teachers. This brochure highlights the number of ways in which we may be able to work with your school or college. 03 Workshops for Students 04 Careers Talks and Productions 05 Saturday Youth Programmes 06 Shakespeare Certificates 07 Teachers CPD 08 About RADA More information about all of these programmes can be found online at or by contacting [email protected]. 02 For more information or to book, contact [email protected] or +44 (0)
WORKSHOPS FOR STUDENTS Our workshops focus on a wide range of topics that have been developed to help students with their studies and to aid their personal development. These sessions are designed to give students a deeper understanding of basic drama techniques which can be transferred into other areas of their work and life. All workshops are run by RADA tutors, directors and experienced graduates and help students to: bring the English language to life stimulate ideas and thoughts develop team skills develop an understanding of human emotions increase confidence Workshops are for up to 20 students per group and are run as either a three hour half day, or a six hour full day. If these times do not suit your requirements, we can also tailor the length of a workshop to fit within your timetable. Prior to all workshops, the workshop facilitator will contact you to discuss your objectives and student needs. A detailed plan will be prepared and agreed with you before the session. Workshop topics include: Acting Technique Classical Text (with a focus on Shakespeare) Contemporary Text Voice Movement (including Laban, Animal work and Character study) Improvisation Devising Presentation Skills Stagecraft 03
CAREERS TALKS PRODUCTIONS If you have students interested in drama from either a technical or a performance point of view, we can arrange for a recent RADA graduate to visit your school or college to give an informal careers talk outlining their first-hand experience of higher education, life at a drama school and the application process at RADA. Many of your students may not be aware of the different disciplines involved in theatre and the related industries. Our graduates can offer advice and personal experience of the following RADA courses: Acting Technical Theatre & Stage Management Production & Design Foundation Courses LONDON SCHOOL TOURS PROJECT The School Tours Project is a free resource that provides London state schools with the opportunity to host a 90 minute production of a Shakespearean play, performed and supported by RADA s second year acting and technical students. As part of this programme, your students will also be given the chance to take part in a preparatory workshop at your school prior to the production. If you are not able to accommodate RADA at your school, you will also have the opportunity to bring a group of pupils to see one of these productions performed at RADA in central London. In addition to this list they can also discuss other RADA activities including the Saturday Workshops, Short Course programmes and RADA s resident Youth Company. GRADUATE PRODUCTIONS Bring your students to RADA to enjoy expert performances that reinvigorate the works of great playwrights by coming to see one of our Classic Cuts productions. The Classic Cuts programme is designed to create an accessible way for students to engage with traditional texts by stripping back well-known pieces to form an hour long show. Classic Cuts are performed at the RADA Studios in central London by a company of RADA graduate actors and supported by RADA graduate technicians. 04 For more information or to book, contact [email protected] or +44 (0)
SATURDAY YOUTH PROGRAMMES RADA YOUTH ACTING WORKSHOPS (AGES 16-24) RADA offers a range of workshops for young people that are held on a Saturday which nurture every stage of their development both in and out of school. Masterclasses Each one-day workshop offers year olds the chance to experience the training RADA students go through in a given discipline. These Masterclasses are targeted at those who are more serious about developing their acting skills and are interested in participating in specialised, more intensive workshops. IMPROVISATION COURSE This 10 week course is for year olds who are interested in learning or developing skills in improvisation. The course covers the building blocks and tools needed to improvise in front of an audience, with strong emphasis on storytelling and playfulness. Students will leave this course having learnt a variety of new skills and will have the confidence to step on a stage with no script in front of an audience. The day is led by a RADA teacher or a guest director who focuses on such subjects as Acting Technique, Voice and Movement. Current timetables can be found on our website. Graduate Led Workshops These half-day workshops are designed for those who aren t sure if acting is right for them, would like to take up a new hobby or just want to have fun at the weekend. The Graduate Led Workshops offer introductory sessions over three hours to provide an initial insight into drama. YOUTH COMPANY This programme is specially designed to help young actors (16-20 years old) develop their acting and theatre performance skills. During the year, Company members are taken through the various elements of drama training including Acting Technique, Text Work, Voice and Movement, Improvisation, Stage Combat and Alexander Technique. The Youth Company meets every Saturday during term time for a year and works towards putting on a classical production in August. The application process is open from December until the end of July. The company aims to reflect the intensity of drama training so requires commitment from the members to attend all sessions. 05
RADA SHAKESPEARE CERTIFICATES The RADA Shakespeare Certificates are for those with a passion for drama and a desire to explore the English language. The examinations allow candidates to meet the challenge of performing Shakespeare s work to experts in the field and encourage a connection with Shakespearian text. They also develop communication skills and the ability to address an audience effectively. BECOME AN EXAMINATION CENTRE If your school has large numbers of students taking part in this programme, you can become an examination centre and we will send an examiner to you. Centres need a minimum of 12 applicants (London), 16 applicants (outside London), 25 applicants (Scotland/N Ireland). We can also provide support workshops for your students for each certificate level, either at your school or at RADA. The RADA Shakespeare Certificates build confidence and improve presentation skills, public speaking, literacy and creativity. All candidates must start at the Bronze level and progress through the various levels step by step. Examination dates are available throughout the year and can be booked through the RADA website. Candidates must be at least 14 years of age to take the Certificate examinations. Please visit our website for further details, prices, a copy of the syllabus and forthcoming examination dates. PREPARING YOUR STUDENTS For drama teachers or coaches preparing students for their Certificate examinations, we offer workshops specifically designed to help them understand the syllabus and teach it effectively to their students. If you are interested in this workshop, please contact us for more information and to enrol. 06 For more information or to book, contact [email protected] or +44 (0)

In each specialist workshop you will watch a masterclass delivered by a director and RADA graduates and then on the second day you will gain practical experience of the techniques you have observed by swapping places with the actors. The aims and objectives of our specialist masterclasses are to: help you to improve your students grades enable you to develop your directorial skills show you how to get the most out of a text build your confidence allow you to share time with other practitioners who teach the same subject develop your own support network share best practice There are three specialist masterclasses for you to choose from: Stanislavski - Focusing on Stanislavski s techniques including units and beats, liberating text and the seven questions.
