We have had an incredible start up at Archwood School as we welcome new staff and students to our school community. There are a few important reminders we would like to share with you. Regular and punctual attendance at school is part of our school culture. We expect students to be on time and in school for all 181 days of the school year. The most important thing families can do to support the education of their children is to ensure they are on time and in school every day. All teachers begin their day with an important Morning Meeting that helps build classroom community and sets the stage for learning. This is an important time of the day for students to be present and engaged. Please let us know if you need any help to ensure your children is on time and at school every day. If, for any reason, your child is unable to attend. Please phone the school at (204) at any time to leave a message letting us know of their absence. This step saves our clerical staff a tremendous amount of time by having to complete fewer call backs during the school day. I want to draw your attention to the hard work of our Archwood Parent Advisory Council that has included important information for all families on pages 8&9 of this newsletter. Please consider joining our APAC this year to help support the amazing work they do for our children. We have received many calls regarding the speed zones on Archibald Street. We are not designated a 30km/hr school zone. This issue falls under the City of Winnipeg. Neither Archwood School or the Louis Riel School Division can implement a school zone on Archibald Street. The posted speed limit is 60km/hr. We will continue to have Mr. Prince and our Student Patrol Team in place to ensure the safety of all children crossing the streets. In closing, we have an open door policy at Archwood School and if you ever have any questions or concerns about the school please do not hesitate to contact us over the phone, through or in person.
