1 Mntana State University Luminis Prtal Prject INTRODUCTION TO PORTAL GROUP STUDIO Grup Studi With the Grup Studi sftware, yu can request the creatin f nline grups fr clubs, affiliatins, r interests and can set up hmepages fr these grups. If yur grup has been apprved and yu becme the grup leader, yu will have a number f tasks t cmplete t set up the grup s pages and any applicatins that it has been given permissin t use (such as a chat rm r message bard). With the Curse Studi sftware, curse leaders can set up curse-specific hmepages that can be accessed by students enrlled in classes at yur institutin. Similar t grup leaders, curse leaders als cmplete tasks t manage curse page cntent and set up the applicatins prvided t the curse members. Grup Studi Overview and Features The Grup Studi and Curse Studi applicatins give students, faculty, emplyees and ther Luminis system users at yur institutin the ability t create and manage hmepages. Grup Studi prvides hmepages fr clubs r ther affiliatins and interests. Curse Studi prvides hmepages fr curses taught at yur institutin. Since managing grup and curse hmepages invlves many f the same tasks, much f the functinality cntained in these tw applicatins is the same. The fllwing sectins utline the features prvided by these applicatins and describe their differences Grup Studi Features Grup Studi supprts the fllwing types f grups fr clubs and interests: Public Grups: Public grups are pen fr anyne t jin. Restricted Grups: Membership in restricted grups is subject t certain criteria. Fr example, t access a grup hme page fr an academic r scial fraternity, an individual must first be accepted as a member f that rganizatin. Hidden Grups: Hidden grups are nt displayed in the grup categry index and d nt have a guest view page. Hidden grups are typically used t publish and discuss sensitive in infrmatin that shuld nt be available even in a restricted grup.

Message Bard: Allws yu t enter a dedicated message bard where yu can read and pst tpics, messages and replies. Calendar: Allws yu t access a grup r curse calendar. Send Annuncements: Allws yu t cmpse and t pst annuncements t the grup r curse hmepage as well as the persnal annuncements channel fr grup r curse members. Nte: This is a cmprehensive list f all tls and applicatins that are ptentially available t grups and curses. Depending n the rights and permissins granted by yur system administratr, yu may nly see a limited set f these tls. 3 Grup Index Tab The Grup Index tab prvides access t a page similar t the fllwing that lists all f the categries f grups at yur institutin and allws yu t access the grup guest hmepages within each categry s that yu can read abut and request t jin a grup. Request grup tab The Request Grup tab prvides a frm similar t the fllwing that yu can fill ut t request the creatin f a new grup. 5 Grup Hmepage SAMPLE GROUP POLICIES Grup members shuld accrd themselves in a prfessinal and respectful manner when publishing cntent n the grup web site. Members agree nt t publish cntent that is illegal r ffensive t ther grup members and agree t share their user names and addresses with ther members f this grup. Members may nt use grup web sites fr the publicatin r distributin f cpyrighted materials r licensed sftware. SAMPLE GROUPS POLICY: Public grups that are f general interest t students and faculty will be apprved. These grups must nt prmte activities that are illegal r that vilate the rights f thers. Restricted grups may be created nly if they are assciated with a sanctined grup r if the grup leader has btained permissin frm the Directr f the Office f Student Affairs. These include individuals wh are regular MUS emplyees, as well as visiting faculty, adjuncts, and ther persns having fficially sanctined, unpaid affiliatins with a MUS campus. Listserv services may be prvided fr nn-cmmercial, nn-msu grups prvided all f the fllwing criteria are met: The list is used in supprt f academic, schlarly, r creative activities.
