4 Introduction Thank you for instaing CardWorks Business Card Software. CardWorks is a business card creator software program for Windows. This software comes with a variety of professiona quaity tempates that you can seect from to create your own business cards without any further modification. A you have to do is enter your detais, seect the tempate design you ike, and then CardWorks wi hande the rest for you. You can print the business cards on your own ink jet or aser printer, or better yet, save it as PDF fie and send it to your favorite print shop. CardWorks is designed to be very easy and intuitive to use. Within minutes you wi be abe to design and print professiona-ooking business cards yoursef. 5 Getting started It's easy to create a business card with CardWorks. Just foow these simpe steps: Seect a tempate from the thumbnai previews. The seected tempate wi appear in the preview area beow. More tempates can be downoaded by cicking the Downoad more tempates button ocated above the tempate preview thumbnais. Learn more about tempates from the Tempates topic in this manua. Seect a Stationery Tempate from the Appy to Stationery Tempate drop down menu. This aows you to set the print ayout of your cards according to the type of printing paper you are using and the options avaiabe. Cick any text fied on the preview and its editing parameters wi appear in the eft pane. You can enter new text, change the font and seect text aignment. If you don't want a text fied to appear, eave the text in the eft pane bank. Cick the Print button on the toobar to print the cards using your printer, or cick the Export button to save the design as a PDF fie and take it to your oca print shop. 3

6 Entering and Customizing your Card Detais and Images Entering your business card detais A business detais can be edited in the eft pane, either by seecting a text fied from the preview to make that fied's text options appear in the eft pane, or by seecting the name of the text fied from the Set Business Information drop menu ocated at the top of the eft pane. To add your business detais, simpy repace the defaut text in the eft pane with the text you want to appear on your business card. If you do not want to incude a certain text fied on your card, eave the text fied bank. To reposition any text on the card, cick the text in the preview pane and drag it to a new ocation. If your text is cut off in the preview pane, seect the text on the preview pane and adjust the bounding ines around the text to increase the size of the text area. Add a ogo or photo To add a ogo or photo, seect Logo or Photo from the Set Business Information drop menu in the eft pane, then cick the Add button to the right of the image fieds to browse for your image. To remove a ogo or photo, cick on the Deete button next to the image. The Deete button is enabed ony when the current chosen image is different from the origina one of the tempate. CardWorks supports a wide range of popuar image formats incuding jpg, gif, bmp, png and tif. You can aso use our image converter software Pixiion for more image conversion options. Images can be resized in the preview pane using the grey bounding ines that appear around the image. Hover the mouse cursor over one of these grey ines unti the cursor changes to a doube-arrow, then cick and drag the ine in or out to increase or decrease the size of the image. Change the position of the image by cicking in the center of the image and dragging it to a new ocation. 4

7 Seecting and Customizing a Tempate Seecting and previewing a tempate design CardWorks dispays a ist of tempates in the top right pane under the heading Seect Your Design. By defaut, a the tempates are shown as doube-sided, with the front side on the top and the back side underneath. You can view the tempates in a variety of coor schemes by seecting a new coor scheme from the drop down ist. If you ony want to create one-sided business cards, you can do so by adjusting the settings in the Options diaog. To preview any tempate, simpy mouse over the tempate. To appy the tempate as your design, cick on it. Additiona tempates are avaiabe for downoad by cicking the Downoad more tempates button ocated above the tempate thumbnais. Seect a Stationery Tempate Cardworks dispays a ist of stationery tempates that are avaiabe for use when you are ready to print your cards. Depending on the type of stationery you are using, you can find the types of tempates supported and choose the one that best works for you. You can choose from a singe card ayout or up to a 10 card ayout. Customizing your card CardWorks does not aow you to buid a card from scratch, but you can use the given toos to use your own card design. The easiest way to do so is to start by using the Simpe tempate, which has a white background and comes with the defaut text fieds. To use your own background, you wi have to create the background in another program, such as PhotoPad or DrawPad, and then import it into CardWorks. To add a new background, cick the Set Business Information drop menu in the eft pane and seect either Front Tempate Background or Back Tempate Background, and then cick the Add button to add your background to the card. If you want to reuse the origina background, cick the Deete button. The Deete button is enabed ony when the current chosen image is different from the origina one of the tempate. To customize your text, seect the text fied on the card and adjust the text attributes in the eft pane. You can reposition any text on the preview by cicking and dragging it to a new position. 5

8 Saving a Tempate Saving a tempate You can save your designed tempate for ater use. To save a tempate, simpy seect the tempate you want to save and choose Save Tempate from Fie menu item or cick on Save As button. A new tempate wi be created and stored. The current seected images wi become the origina images of the new tempate. You can then open a saved tempate by using Open Tempate from Fie menu item. Note: The Save As on too bar is used to save a new tempate from the current seected tempate, it does not save business information set. If you want to save as the current business information set, pease cick button "Add a new business information set" on the eft pane and then choose "Pre-fi" in the consequent diaog. 6

9 Appy to Stationery Tempate Appy to Stationery Tempate You can specify at the design stage which stationery you want to use for printing your business cards. Cicking on the drop-down ist ocating above the ist of tempates. Seect your chosen stationery. Your current design card wi be adjusted to fit your seected stationery. This setting wi be kept when you go to the printing diaog. It makes sure what you design is what you print. If you do not seect any specific stationery, the card size parameters provided in Options diaog For more information about stationery, pease refer to Supported Stationery. 7

10 Printing Your Cards Print/export your business card design Once you are happy with the tempate design you seected, you can proceed to print the business cards using your printer, or export to PDF to send to a professiona print shop. Cicking on either the Print or Export button wi open the Print Preview or Export To PDF Preview window which aows you to adjust a the ayout settings as we as the stationery. Stationery for printing cards: seect the stationery you wi use for printing your business cards. Pease refer to Supported Stationery for more information. Number of printing cards: specify how many cards you woud ike to print. Top Margin: the margin from the top of the page Left Margin: the margin from the eft of the page Horizonta Gap: the horizonta margin between the cards Vertica Gap: the vertica margin between the cards Side To Print: if the doube-sided card option is enabed from the Options diaog, seect which side you want to print first Beeds and Crop-marks: Enabing beeds wi ensure the coors on the card extend a the way to the edge when the cards are cut. Enabing crop-marks aows you to see approximatey where the edges wi be cut on the card. Print ony text: Enabing print ony text aows you to print ony text on the card. Dupex print adjustment for back side: Do some adjustment for ong-side dupex printing. It is ony for Print Preview. Once the settings are correct, cick the Print button to print the cards with your printer or cick the Export button to save as a PDF fie, depending on which preview you opened. 8

11 Supported Stationery Supported stationery CardWorks supports standard paper sizes and popuar Avery Business Card tempates. Cick the drop down menu under Appy to Stationery Tempate to seect from a ist of tempates avaiabe. Aso cicking on either the Print or Export button wi open the Print Preview or Export To PDF Preview, window which aows you to set the stationery for printing your business cards. You can either seect standard paper sizes or a specific Avery Business Card tempate. There are three standard paper sizes incuding A4, US Letter and US Lega for you to seect. If you seect one of these genera paper sizes, the Card Size Settings from Options diaog wi be used. You can aso specify how many cards you woud ike to print out. You can aso specify number of cards you want in a singe page such as 8 cards (4x2), 10 cards (5x2), or custom. In custom mode, adjusting appropriate ayout parameters incuding Top Margin, Left Margin, Horizonta Gap and Vertica Gap is a key to meet your needs. CardWorks aso supports popuar Avery Business Card tempates on which you can print 8 or 10 cards with A4 and US Letter paper settings. Seect the item for the ist which is correspondent to the Avery Business Card paper you use. Athough you can adjust ayout parameters, you are not recommended to do so except your designed business cards are not we aigned with the Avery Business Card papers. We recommend you print on a pain paper and check the printed resut with your Avery stationery before printing on rea Avery stationery. Pease refer to Print/export your business card design for more information about adjusting card ayout for printing or exporting. Once the settings are correct, cick the Print button to print the cards with your printer or cick the Export button to save as a PDF fie, depending on which preview you opened. 9

12 Storing Mutipe Sets of Business Detais CardWorks automaticay saves the detais you enter for ater use. By defaut, the first time you enter information, it is saved under the "Defaut" profie. To create a new profie, simpy cick on the button ocated next to the Business Information Set drop-down menu and enter a name for the new set. You may be asked if you woud ike to pre-fi the organization detais from the current business set you are on. Seecting Pre-fi wi transfer the text fieds and settings. You can then edit the font sizes and positions as needed in the new business set. You can aways switch between the profies by seecting the profie from the Seect Business Information Set drop menu. A the tempates and the current card design wi be automaticay updated to refect the new card detais. To deete a business information set, seect the business name from the ist and cick the trash can icon to the right of the Business Information Set drop-menu. 10

13 CardWorks Options This diaog contains CardWorks Business Card Software Options, and can be found by cicking the Options button on the main toobar. Card Support creating one-sided business card ony - Check this box if you ony need to create one side business cards. This wi te CardWorks to dispay or not dispay the back side of the tempates. Defaut card size - Seect the card size that you woud ike to use. Regiona Dispay sizes in - Seect the card size unit that you woud ike to use. 11

18 Screen References - Export to PDF - Preview The "Export to PDF - Preview" diaog shows a preview of your cards ayed out on a page, with the abiity to export the resut to a PDF fie. Toobar Export After configuring the options and checking the page preview, cick here to seect the fie path of the PDF to export. Front / Back Changes the page preview between the front and back sides. Options Stationery Settings Seect the stationery. Pease refer to Supported Stationery for more information. Card Layout Adjust the number of cards printed on each page, the margins between the top of the page and the top of the cards, the eft of the page and the eft of the cards, and the gaps between the coumns and rows of cards. Side to Print Seect whether to output the front sides of the cards ony, the back sides of the cards ony, or both sides. Beeds & Crop-Marks Adjust the beeds (the area aong the edge of a card that wi be trimmed off when the card is cut to fina size), and crop-marks (which indicate the exact pace where the paper is to be trimmed). 19 Screen References - Print - Preview The "Print - Preview" diaog dispays the front and back sides of the business card as it wi be printed by the printer. Toobar Print You can print the business card by cicking the Print button. This wi open the printer seection and settings diaog where you can seect which side of the business card to print. Front / Back Changes the page preview between the front and back sides. Options Stationery Settings Seect the stationery. Pease refer to Supported Stationery for more information. Dupex print adjustment for back side When you want to print both sides of the cards on the same paper in dupex printing, you need to check Dupex adjust to te the appication to adjust the position of the back side of the cards so that the back side can match the front side after the dupex printing. Sometimes, there are aso offsets between both sides on some printers even if the Dupex adjust is seected. In this case, you can view and measure the offsets in the foowing steps: 1. Cick Print sampe to measure manuay button to print a sampe in dupex way. 17

20 2. Make a sma hoe at the origin of the coordinate of the front side after printing the sampe. 3. Face the back side to measure the offsets of the hoe in the coordinate of the back side. 4. Input the offsets to Dupex offset X and Dupex offset Y. Note: 1. The above dupex adjustment is just for the back side. 2. You shoud seect dupex printing with ong-side stape option. 3. There are sti very sma offsets between both sides after the above dupex adjustment because of cacuation error and mechanica error of the printer.
