4 Overview Bot PDF Overview: Bot PDF is a printer driver for creating PDF documents. It aows you to save documents as a PDF fie with any standard appication that can print such as Notepad, OpenOffice, PictureViewer or Word. Bot PDF is used just ike a norma printer, but the output is a PDF fie saved on your hard drive or removabe media device. PDFs can be created in text or image formats, aowing you to taior documents to your specific needs. 5 Quick Start Guide: Using Bot PDF Insta the Bot PDF drive on your computer Bot PDF wi automaticay insta a printer driver on your computer during instaation. After instaation, the Bot PDF appication window wi appear. You do not need to have this window open to create PDFs. Print to a PDF Document 1. Load the document you wish to print with the appropriate appication (e.g., oad.docx fies with Microsoft Word). 2. Bring up the appication's printer diaog. This is usuay done through the Fie menu, or with a printer icon. 3. Seect "Bot PDF" in the printer seection drop-down box. 4. Cick OK. The Bot PDF printer driver wi save the document to PDF fie format. Once the fie is saved, it can be opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader or other PDF reader appications. 3

6 Manuay Instaing Bot PDF Instaing the Bot PDF Printer Driver The printer driver shoud automaticay insta aong with the instaation of the Bot PDF appication. If it doesn't, you can manuay insta the driver from the Bot PDF appication window: 1. From the main menu, cick Toos->Insta Driver Windows may ask if you woud ike to insta the driver. Cick OK to proceed. 3. A window wi pop up notifying you the driver has been instaed. You' aso see the driver is instaed on the bottom status bar of the Bot PDF appication window. NOTE: For both automatic and manua instaations of the printer driver, you must be ogged on to an account with administrator privieges. You may be prompted by Windows to eevate your security permissions. Uninstaing the Bot PDF Printer Driver To uninsta the printer driver, aunch the Bot PDF appication. From the main menu, cick Toos->Uninsta Driver... After you confirm that you want to uninsta the driver, Windows may ask you to eevate your security permissions before the uninsta can proceed. 4

7 PDF Text and Image Formats Depending on your needs, you can choose which format you woud ike to save your PDF in. When printing your document, PDF fies can be created in either text or image format. To seect either text or image format, open the Bot PDF properties window from the document appication's print options diaog. This is usuay done with the "Properties" or "Preferences" button near the printer seection drop-down menu, but may vary from appication to appication. Differences Between Formats Text Format: This is a vector format. When text format is seected, Bot PDF wi attempt to create the PDF document as a searchabe, editabe document. This format is idea for office documents and spreadsheets. Advantages: The PDF can be searched, seected and copied from. Edits to the PDF fie can be made with PDF editing software. The resuting fie size is generay smaer than most other document formats. The PDF is scaabe to any size for printing or dispay. Disadvantages: The PDF documents may different from the origina due to variations in font and image transations. Image Format: This is a raster format. The image format is best for documents containing a arge number of images or with specia text formatting. An exact repica of the origina document wi be created. However, the resuting PDF fie cannot be edited or searched ike a text format PDF. Use the image format for presentation documents and web sites. Advantages: The PDF is an exact repica of the origina document Better for documents with many pictures, specia text formatting, or specia fonts. Disadvantages: The resuting PDF fie cannot be scaed, searched or edited. Larger fie size. NOTE: 5

8 Both the image and text formats can be used to save vector or raster images and graphics in PDF. 6

9 Setting Bot PDF as your Defaut Printer To set Bot PDF as your defaut printer, open up the Bot PDF appication. From the main menu, seect Toos->Set As Defaut Printer... When you are asked to confirm that you want Bot PDF as your defaut printer, cick Yes. 7

10 Saving PDFs to a Location You wi aways be prompted to seect a save ocation when you print using Bot PDF. You can specify the foder a PDF fie wi save to from either the Bot PDF appication, or from the printer diaog window. Setting a Defaut Foder from the Bot PDF Appication From the main menu, seect Fie->Change defaut save foder... The Browse for Foder window wi appear. From here, you can either browse to the foder you woud ike to set as the defaut foder, or you can create a new foder. Cick OK to save your changes. Setting a Defaut Foder from the Printer Diaog Window Open the Bot PDF properties window from the document appication's print options diaog. This is usuay done with the "Properties" or "Preferences" button near the printer seection drop-down menu, but may vary from appication to appication. From the Bot PDF properties window, browse to and seect the foder you woud ike to save to. NOTE: Saving to a new ocation from the printer diaog window resets the defaut foder you may have set from the Bot PDF appication. 8
