4 Introduction Thank you for using BroadCam. BroadCam is an audio/video streaming program that aows you to stream web cameras and video footage across your network or the Internet. The video can be viewed using your web-browser which may require Abode Fash to be instaed. Some of the main features of BroadCam are: Audio and Video can be streamed from a camera connected to the machine or from a network camera Any video fie can be streamed Broadband and Diaup streams are provided A wide range of browsers can be used to view the output, incuding those on Windows, Mac, ios and Android systems. User can aso view the streaming from YouTube. (If YouTube Live Streaming is enabed by the user) System Requirements Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 Instaation To insta BroadCam you just simpy run the downoaded appication. This wi insta the appication to your hard drive. 2

5 Using BroadCam If you have successfuy foowed a the steps of the instaation process then you are ready to start using BroadCam. The basic steps for setting up BroadCam are isted beow. You can aso view a video tutoria on how to set up BroadCam at Setup Foow these steps to set up and start the server: 1. Configure BroadCam's internet connection. Broadcam server automaticay starts after instaation finishes. If the server is offine, cick the Start Server button. If the 'Status' section (which is to the right of the 'Start Server' button) shows 'Access probem', BroadCam is not correcty configured for streaming videos. In this case, pease cick the Options icon on the toobar and go to the Web Access tab to configure Broadcam's Internet connection. Web routing test wi run automaticay after you cick Web Access tab, and test resut wi show in the status section. If test fais, an error message wi provide detais about why the connection isn't working. For most peope, many connection probems have to do with NAT routers. If your router does not support Universa Pug and Pay, or UPnP, you wi have to ook up instructions in your router s manua, ogin to your router and forward port 86 to port 86 on the BroadCam server. If you are not the person who ooks after the router, ask the person who does to do this. After manua setup finishes, cick the Run Web Routing and Test Wizard button to run the test again. If Internet connection succeeds, the 'Status' section wi change to 'No streams added'. That means the Internet connection is correcty set and now you can start to add video streams. More information about routing can be found at which incudes tutorias for port forwarding and additiona resources. 2. Add any cameras you wish to stream if you wi be using BroadCam to stream ive. On the main interface under the Live Video Streams section, cick the Add button to add cameras. Each camera you add wi add its video and audio device and set a defaut name. You can change these using the Properties button. (Note: Camera streams can aso be managed from Options ~ Live) After the camera is added, you wi be asked to seect streaming methods. Here you can enabe YouTube Live Streaming so that camera content can be streamed to YouTube and anyone has access to YouTube can view it. 3. Add pre-recorded video fies (for exampe a divx avi fie or a camcorder DV video fie) under the Pre-Recorded Video Fies section of the main window by cicking the Add button. When you add a fie it wi be re-encoded 4 times, it wi be converted to Fash and MP4 formats for both Broad-Band users and Dia-Up users. Pease be aware this can take a whie. (Note: Video streams can aso be managed from Options ~ Recordings) 4. Link BroadCam to your website. Cick the Open Links icon from the toobar. This wi open up a browser window with a ist of URLs and code you can add to your website s code. For each stream or video added to BroadCam, you see two inks, one ink for a oca network and another for the pubic network. Ask your web deveoper for hep in adding these URLs and code if you are not sure where they go. 3

6 If you pan on using the free version of BroadCam, you must aso incude a ink to NCH Software on every page that inks to BroadCam. The HTML code for the NCH Software ink is found at the bottom of the inks page. It must be paced accuratey on your website or ese BroadCam wi be disabed. Running BroadCam from the system tray By seecting BroadCam-->Exit (Cose to tray) from the BroadCam menu, you are abe to eave BroadCam open and serving in the background. The BroadCam icon wi appear in the system tray whie BroadCam is running in the background without cuttering up your taskbar. You can right cick this icon to reopen BroadCam. 4

7 Main Window Reference The main window of BroadCam is composed of beow 6 parts: Menu and Toobar By cicking Toos->Record new video to aunch Debut Video Capture Software, you can capture video and save as it a fie. And then stream it in BroadCam. Other functionaities of buttons and menu items can be found in Screen References section. hep Live Video Streams Here you can manage a ive cameras Camera Sources Pre-Recorded Video Fies Here you can manage a pre-recorded video fies Video Sources Preview window Your seected stream is payed in this window Statistics and Contro Pane Statistics pane: Viewing seected shows how many cients are watching seected stream; Viewing a shows how many cients are watching a streams; Tota viewers shows how many cients have viewed each stream; Tota times viewed shows how many times each steam has been viewed Contro Pane: Here is the button to start/stop BroadCam server, and the status of server is shown to the user. BroadCam server can have these status: Enabed but has access probem Enabed but no stream added Enabed 5

9 Camera Sources BroadCam can stream output from a camera connected to the server it is running on. Add Camera In Options ~ Live you can add any cameras that is instaed into Windows. You need to have previousy instaed the camera as per the instructions that came with it. Pease note aso the diaog wi ony ist cameras that are actuay connected. For exampe a USB camera that is not pugged in wi not appear. After a camera is added, you' have a chance to seect the streaming methods. If you choose to stream the camera content to YouTube, you can either manuay input the YouTube ive event URL, or create/seect a new/existing event under your YouTube account through the UI. Remove Camera This aows you to remove the camera from BroadCam. The camera is not uninstaed from Windows. Change Camera Properties Every camera has a series of options and you may change them here. Pease see Live Input Settings and Video Streaming Methods for more detais. Set Password This aows you to set up and change password for a ive stream. Pease see Set Password and Change Password for more detais. 7

10 Video Sources You may add video fies (avi fies or other such movie fies) for streaming with BroadCam. Pease note you shoud ony stream such fies if you have copyright permission to do so. You can add or remove videos from streaming. Pease check first that you can pay the fie using Windows Media Payer (not Windows Media Payer Cassic as that exceent program has codec buit in and can pay fies Windows Media Payer cannot). Once you have done so add the fie and it wi now re-encode the video 4 times for broadband and dia-up connections with 2 formats. Pease note these re-encodes can take a whie depending on the ength of the video. You may set a password for a video so that anyone who wants to view the video wi be required to provide the password. You may aso change or deete the password. 8

12 Troubeshooting The ist contains probems you may encounter with BroadCam and how to resove them. Most of these errors are ogged into the Status Window (ower part of the screen) in red. Camera xxxxx coud not be started. Pease check if it is connected. If so deete it and re-add using the Options button, Cameras tab. This means the camera coud not be started by Windows. Sometimes, deeting and reading the camera in Options ~ Cameras wi resove this issue. Otherwise, this probem can be caused by any of the foowing: The camera is not pugged in The camera is fauty The camera's drivers are not instaed or are fauty. Pease reinsta the drivers from the CD that shipped with the camera. You can aso visit the manufacturer's website and downoad a ater version. For USB cameras, you may have too many connected to the same USB hub. Cameras generate a ot of data, especiay at high resoutions and frame rates. You can exceed the maximum rate data that can be sent through the hub (i.e., bandwidth). To resove this, pease connect a camera, or cameras, to another hub. For instance, connect a camera to the front USB ports on your PC and others to the rear ports. The video cannot be re-encoded for streaming - Check you can pay it with Windows Media Payer. If Fash Video doesn't work. You need to open port 1935 to be abe to broadcast Fash video. Pease check your firewa (and/or other network devices) settings and make sure port 1935 is opened. For more information see If Fash Payer crashes when enter fu screen mode on Windows 8 This issue normay is caused by incompatibe version of Fash Payer pre-instaed on Windows 8. Pease foow this to update Fash Payer to atest version. If YouTube Authorization page can't dispay correcty and 'Accept' button is disabed when adding/seecting an YouTube ive event Pease upgrade your Internet Exporer to IE8 or a higher version to show the YouTube Authorization page correcty 10

16 Screen References - Preview Video The preview diaog has five buttons: Return To Start: Cicking here wi return you to the start of the video. It is ike an instant rewind to the start of your video. Step Back: Cicking this button wi move you a itte bit further back in the video. It is ike hitting "Rewind" on your video payer, then pressing "Pause" straight away. Pay/Pause: This button is simiar to the Pay and Pause buttons on your video payer. Cicking Pay wi start the video paying, then cicking it again wi Pause the video. Step Forward: Cicking this button wi move you a itte bit forwards in the video. It is ike hitting "Fast-Forward" on your video payer, then pressing "Pause" straight away. Go To End: Cicking here wi take you to the end of your video. It is ike an instant fast-forward to the end of your video. Beow the video there is a timeine. You can cick any position on the timeine to instanty go to that time of your video. It is ike instanty rewinding or fast-forwarding unti you reach that position in your movie. You can aso drag the red cursor ine on the timeine to watch as the video rewinds or fast-forwards if you woud ike. 14

17 Screen References - YouTube Live Event Settings Here you can fi a required fieds and create a YouTube Live Broadcast event. Tite: This is the tite of the YouTube Live Broadcast event. Description: This is the description of the YouTube Live Broadcast event. Start Date: This is the date and time the broadcast is schedued to start. End Date: This is the date and time the broadcast is schedued to end. End times are not needed for 24/7 broadcasts. Privacy: This is the privacy settings of the broadcast event. Ony pubic broadcast events wi appear on your channe, search resuts and promotion. Choose unisted or private for test events. Aow Payback Contros Check this if you want to give viewers the access to DVR contros when they watch the broadcast. DVR contros enabe the viewer to contro the video payback experience by pausing, rewinding, or fast forwarding content. Video Resoution: This is the format of the video stream that you are sending to YouTube. 15

18 Screen References - YouTube Broadcast List This diaog ists a existing active YouTube Live Broadcast events on your YouTube account from which you can seect one to stream video content to. 16

19 Screen References - Live Input Settings Here you can specify the properties of the camera you wish to stream or seect the capture device. The Live Input Settings diaog is found by highighting the ive stream on the main interface and cicking the Properties button. 17

20 Screen References - Invite Viewers BroadCam aows you to keep a ist of your viewers that you want to invite to see your broadcast contents. You can invite viewers by emai or by caing them. To open the Invite Viewers diaog, cick the Invite button on the toobar. To add a new viewer, cick on the Add button and enter their name, and either their emai and/or phone number. To edit a viewer, cick on the Edit button and edit the name, and either emai and/or phone number. To remove a viewer, seect the viewer in the ist and cick Remove button. You can send an invitation emai or make ca to a viewer by seecting the viewer in the ist, then cicking the Emai or Ca button on the toobar. BroadCam make cas to viewers using Express Tak VoIP SoftPhone, which can be downoaded for free from our website at To seect mutipe viewers in the ist, hod the Ctr key and cick to seect the viewers. 18

21 Screen References - Set Up Invitation Emai Schedued Broadcast Date Time: Cick on the drop down arrow to seect a date, or simpy enter the date and time of your screen broadcast. Preview Send Message: This is a preview of the emai contents BroadCam wi send to a seected viewers. Emai Settings... Cick on this button to set up your emai settings. For more information about emai settings, pease refer to the onine artice Sending Emai. 19

22 Screen References - Add Viewer BroadCam enabes you to invite a person to view your stream by emai or by caing them from your PC with Express Tak VOIP Software. For each viewer you have to provide either emai or phone or both. To add a new viewer, cick the Invite icon on the toobar, then cick the Add button. 20

23 Screen References - Set Password BroadCam aows you to set passwords for pre-recorded videos and Live streams. You can set a password for each video or stream so that ony viewers with the correct password can view it. 21

24 Screen References - Change Password You can change passwords for pre-recorded videos and ive streams. If new passwords are eft empty, od password wi be deeted then. 22

25 Screen References - Stream Statistics On this page you can find the detaied statistics for a BroadCam stream, such as the IP addresses of a users ever connected and the date of their first access. Refresh Cick this button to update the information about stream connections. 23

26 Screen References - Fie Detais BroadCam converts each imported video into 2 formats with 2 quaity eves. So there wi be four fies for each video: High quaity Fash, Low quaity Fash, High quaity MP4 and Low quaity MP4. On this page you can check the status of a the video fies. If a video has a green icon, that means a formats and quaity eves are avaiabe. If a video has an orange icon, that means some formats and/or quaity eves are missing. Users connect to BroadCam may not be abe to view the video stream, or can not switch between quaity eves. In this case, you shoud import fie again to generate a required formats and quaity eves. If a video has a red icon, that means an unsupported video format is found, and a required formats and quaity eves are missing. So user can not view the video. In this case, you shoud remove the unsupported video from the "Pre-Recorded Video Fies" ist. 24

28 Screen References - Options ~ Genera This diaogue aows you to set genera settings for BroadCam. It is found by cicking the Options icon on the toobar and then cicking the Genera tab. Startup Startup Run Mode BroadCam can be set to run automaticay when the computer starts. To enabe or disabe this, tick or untick the "Run this program automaticay when you ogin" option. If you want to use BroadCam for a permanent streaming service, you shoud seect this option. There are many modes of running automaticay, which you can seect in the pu down ist under the "Run this program automaticay when you ogin" checkbox. The options are: Start when any user ogs on. Start when this user ogs on ony. Start before ogon. Show a users tray. Start before ogon. Show this user ony. Start before ogon. Do not show icon. If you want BroadCam to run aways, irrespective of whether anyone is ogged on, seect one of the Start before ogon options. When running as a service, BroadCam wi work before ogging on and after og off. By defaut, when running as a service BroadCam wi 'show' and be accessibe to a users as an icon on the tray of task bar. You can change this to imit it to the current user or no users. If you pan to use Windows Termina or Remote Desktop you probaby shoud restrict Informant to a oca user or no users because 'showing' on a remote desktop can sometimes knock out oca devices because they attempt to use the remote devices! Running as a service ony takes effect the next time you restart the PC. You shoud aso check that it works after restarting your computer. If you have any probems, check that foders are accessibe from the "Loca System" account. If you need to send emai from Informant using MAPI, you must change the "Log On As" password for the Informant Service. To do this, after you have set Run as Service, open Contro Pane / Administrative Toos / Services. Doube cick on "Informant Service", seect the Log On tab, seect this account and then enter the name and password of the user account to use to send emai. Redirect URLs (Fash format ony) URLs to redirect These options aow to specify the URL a user shoud be redirected to if the viewer cicks on a video image, generated by BroadCam, in a web browser, or if the video is ended. If a video image is cicked: Enter URL if you want BroadCam to redirect a viewer when he/she cicks on a video image. If a video is over (recordings ony): 26

29 Enter URL if you want BroadCam to redirect a viewer when a video is over. If a video is over, foowing text wi show: Enter Text you want BroadCam to show when a video is over. Incude the 'Code for inserting' bock in the Web page Disabe this option if you do not want to dispay the 'Code for inserting' box on the streaming video web page. Show 'Restart Server' warning diaog when user opens Options and Live Properties diaogs. Disabe this option so that warning diaog never shows. 27

30 Screen References - Options ~ Quaity This diaogue aows you to set quaity settings for BroadCam, such as frame rate and image quaity of FLV and HTML5 MP4 streams. You can seect a codec and formats to improve the quaity or to decrease the band-with required to view the video. This diaogue is found by cicking the Options icon on the toobar and then cicking the Quaity tab. Video compression settings for high and ow quaity connections. Stream frame rate (For ive streams ony) This is the number of frames per second that wi be dispayed in the video/jpg stream. For a fu movie quaity this is normay 24 FPS (TV is either 25 or 30 depending on your country). Anything beow 24 frames wi start appearing jerky and beow 10 very much so. There is no rea reason to increase the frame rate above 24 (or 25/30 for TV). FLV image quaity Cick the Encoder Settings button to open the Fash Settings diaog. HTML5 image quaity Cick the Encoder Settings button to open the HTML5 Video Settings diaog. 28

31 Screen References - Options ~ Live Live Video Streams BroadCam ets you stream video directy from a video camera device. Each 'stream' has its own name, device and ink(s). To find out what the ink(s) are for a stream, which wi be inserted into your website, use the Connect option from the main window of BroadCam. Add... This option wi add a camera for use by BroadCam. It wi not insta a camera into Windows, to do that you wi need to refer to the instructions that came with your camera. It wi open an additiona wizard and for detais pease see Live Input Settings and Video Streaming Methods. Remove This option wi remove the seected camera from BroadCam. It wi not remove it/uninsta it from Windows. Properties... This option wi aow you to update the properties of the seected aready instaed camera. For detais of these settings pease see Live Input Settings and Video Streaming Methods. Live Output Options BroadCam aso ets you seect the avaiabe options to view the ive video from video camera device. Fash ive must be enabed for each camera, so you must enabe at east one quaity eve. HTTP Live Streaming is enabed by defaut for each camera, so we donot provide seection options here. High Quaity Fash This aows you to enabe (checked) or disabe (unchecked) the streaming of high quaity Fash ive. For more detais pease see Quaity. Low Quaity Fash This aows you to enabe (checked) or disabe (unchecked) the streaming of ow quaity Fash ive. For more detais pease see Quaity. High Quaity ASF This aows you to enabe (checked) or disabe (unchecked) the streaming of ASF. 29

32 Screen References - Options ~ Recordings BroadCam can stream video fie (eg. avi fies). BroadCam automaticay converts the format and bandwidth for different payers, browsers and connection speeds. You can find the ist of recorded videos on the main screen. Recorded Video Output Options BroadCam aso ets you seect the avaiabe options to view the recorded video fies. Each output option here coud be turned On or Off to suit the needs of users. Pease use the Connect option from the main window of BroadCam to view the avaiabe options for viewing recorded video. Set up output format when adding prerecorded videos This option aows you to resize, crop or change a frame rate of an image. High Quaity This aows you to change the output format of the high quaity recordings, which are added to BroadCam. Here you can specify the resoution, aspect ratio and frame rate of the created fie. Low Quaity This aows you to change the output format of the ow quaity recordings, which are added to BroadCam. Here you can specify the resoution, aspect ratio and frame rate of the created fie. 30

33 Screen References - Options ~ Connections Here you can define what actions shoud be performed when a user is connected or disconnected from a streaming server. 31

34 Screen References - Options ~ Other Watermark for Live Capture BroadCam ets you create a watermark on your ive video output. Specify the path to the fie you want to use as the watermark and customize how the watermark wi ook on the video. Do not use watermark Do not use watermark. Use a custom watermark image Use a custom watermark image chosen by user.opacity: Choose the opacity eve of the watermark. Range from 0 - competey see through to absoutey opaque Horizonta Aignment Aows the watermark to appear at the eft, right or in the center of the video. Vertica Aignment Aows the watermark to appear at the top, bottom or in the center of the video. Banner settings for Live and Video streams BroadCam aows you to have a banner embedded beow the video/ive window. Specify the path to the fie you want to use or to an externa HTTP server, containing the image or ASP server. To see how you ink the fies pease cick Connect from the main screen of BroadCam. As noted, the banner fie is a picture fie and it shoud have a resoution of 194 by 32. If the picture is smaer than that, BroadCam video/ive page dispays at its origina size. If the picture is arger than that, BroadCam video/ive page wi crop the image to fit the space. 32

35 Screen References - Viewing statistics ~ Viewers BroadCam enabes you to monitor active viewers to your server's ive video contents. You can view the detais of the each viewer, such as their IP address, and can bock a particuar viewer as we. To open the Manage Viewers window, cick the Viewers icon on the toobar. The top of the ist dispays the Active Viewers, and the bottom portion dispays any viewers you have bocked. Note: Currenty, monitoring active viewers of pre-recorded content is not avaiabe. Active Viewers The ist dispays a the currenty active viewers to the ive streamed contents, the speed of their connection, the type of stream they are viewing, and the contents. Bock Seected Viewer Cick the Bock Seected Viewer button to bock (disaow) the seected IP address in the ist from viewing the current content isted with their IP address. Bocked Viewers The ist dispays a the currenty bocked IP addresses. Unbock Seected Viewer To unbock a particuar IP address seected for the bocked IP ist. 33

36 Screen References - Viewing statistics ~ Visitors Here you can see the current status of connections to BroadCam streams, such as the number of currenty connected users and tota hit count (tota number of unique IP addresses ever connected to this stream). Refresh Cick this button to update the information about BroadCam connections. Detais Cick this button to open a statistics with detaied information about the seected BroadCam stream. 34

37 Screen References - ~ Live Input Settings Stream Name: You can specify the oca web camera as the capture device. This is the name the camera wi be referred to on the connection webpage. Capture Audio Check the Capture Audio box to capture and stream audio aong with the video.audio Device: Seect the audio source from the Audio Device drop-menu. 38 Network Camera You can use a network camera, streaming in MJPEG, as a ive camera.url: You can specify the URL of a network camera, streaming in MJPEG, as the capture device. You can incude the port in the URL. The 10 most recent URLs wi be kept in the combo box. User Name: The user name of the network camera account. Password: The password of the network camera account. Pace Timestamps Check the Pace Timestamps box to pace the eapsed time since the start of capture in the corner of the video for this camera.when the Pace Timestamps box is checked, you can set the font size of the timestamps on the video. 36
