3 Global Bioenergy Statistics Project started by WBA in January 2014 Target Publication of annual statistics report in June every year Scope All bioenergy sectors incl. biofuels, biogas, pellets, charcoal etc. Geographical distribution into global, continental and regional data Approach WBA office in charge of data collection, analysis and publication Guided by a steering committee of bioenergy experts Collaboration with other international agencies like IEA, FAO, REN21, IRENA etc.
4 Global energy supply Global energy supply dominated by fossil fuels 81% of all energy supplied by fossil fuels coal, oil and gas Renewables share 14% Bioenergy share 10%
5 Global energy consumption 80% of all energy consumption fossil fuels (Oil and oil products the highest at 38%) In 2013, renewables share is 18.3% - an increase of 0.2% Bioenergy largest renewable energy source globally 14% Solar, wind, geothermal etc. 1% in global energy conusmption

7 Energy consumption in continents Asia is the largest consumer of energy among continents Coal is the largest energy source Americas (e.g. USA) is dominant on crude oil and products Renewables contributed about half of all energy consumption in Africa
8 Energy consumption in countries China, USA and India are largest consumers of energy Renewable share varies as 17%, 9% and 38% respectively Among top 10, Brazil has the highest renewable energy share 42% followed by India and Indonesia EU 28 countries at 16%.
