Sectors Energy The growing global demand for energy means it is important to come up with new solutions, prioritizing those that use clean and renewable sources. Abengoa therefore develops plants that convert energy from renewable sources into electricity and biofuels, as well as constructing the transmission lines that make up our electricity networks. Environment The growth of the population, improved living conditions in developing countries and climate change are going to lead to significant changes in demand for natural resources. Aware of this trend, Abengoa produces drinking water from sea water and waste water. 2
3 Abengoa carries out its engineering, infrastructure concessions and industrial production activities in both sectors: Engineering and construction Engineering and construction includes our traditional engineering business in the energy and water sectors, with more than 70 years of experience in the market. We specialize in carrying out complex turnkey projects such as solar-thermal plants, solar-gas hybrid plants, conventional generation plants, biofuels plants and water infrastructures, as well as large-scale desalination plants and transmission lines, among others. Concession-type infrastructures We have an extensive and young portfolio of proprietary concession assets that generate revenues that are governed by long term sales agreements with formats such as take-or-pay contracts or power purchase agreements. This activity includes the operation of electricity generation plants (solar, cogeneration or wind) and desalination plants, as well as transmission lines. These assets generate no demand risk and we focus on operating them as efficiently as possible. Industrial production This activity area covers our businesses with a high technology component, such as biofuels and the development of solar technology. The company holds an important leadership position in these activities in the geographical markets in which it operates. 3

5 Industrial production This activity covers our businesses with a high technology component, such as biofuels or the development of solar technology. The company holds an important leadership position in these activities in the geographical markets in which it operates. 1 Biofuels We are a leading bioethanol producer in Europe and one of the major players in the USA. With our operations in Brazil, we are the only company in the sector with a presence in the three major markets of Europe, Brazil and the USA. Our advanced management processes, from purchasing raw materials through to the sale of ethanol and its by-products (mainly DGS used as animal feed) have given Abengoa extremely stable results compared to the historic volatility of this sector. We currently have a capacity to produce 3,175 ML annually, distributed across 14 plants in five countries on two continents. In the near future, we will be expanding our asset base with second-generation plants. Waste to biofuels (W2B) W2B technology is used to obtain energy from municipal solid waste (MSW) using a fermentation treatment and enzymatic hydrolysis. This solution is not limited to the organic fraction of MSW but also includes use of other components (recyclable, non-recyclable and other plastics) by using pyrolysis technologies to produce biodiesel and to recover energy to generate steam and electricity. In April 2013 Abengoa began operating the first demonstration plant using Waste to Biofuels (W2B) technology in Babilafuente (Salamanca). The plant has a capacity to treat 25,000 tons of municipal solid waste (MSW), from which up to 1.5 million liters of bioethanol suitable for use as fuel will be obtained. 5
6 2 Solar energy Abengoa operates at every stage of the value chain of the solar-thermal industry, including in the industrial production segment supplying technology and technological components to developers and constructors. The leadership position of Abengoa s solar division enables the company to offer the most competitive solar generation prices in its projects and helps to generate a return on its R&D+i investment, benefiting from the growth of third party businesses by supplying technology and technological components. 6
7 In 2012 Abengoa supplied more than 1,300,000 mirrors for parabolic trough collectors for the plants of the Extremadura solar platform in Spain and for Solana and Mojave in the USA, among others. During the year the company also supplied more than 2,000 parabolic trough collectors based on the different models it sells (ASTRO and E2) for the plants of the Extremadura solar platform, Solana and Mojave, and for Aguas Prietas in Mexico. Collectors have also been supplied for industrial applications of more than 10 MW for projects in Chile, Brazil, Canada and the USA. 3 4 Other activities Energy crops Internationally, Abengoa has focused on producing electricity from biomass, with major opportunities to become a global supplier. The objective is to become a world leader in the sustainable production and commercialization of biomass, offering innovative industrial solutions, while creating value for its shareholders, clients and employees. Hydrogen Abengoa is involved in the hydrogen economy, seeking to provide sustainable methods for producing and using this clean fuel, offering solutions in sectors such as transport, portable applications or cogeneration, using high temperature fuel cells. The company is already focused on the search for a market for these technologies. 7
8 Abengoa is participating in hydrogen projects in Spain, Holland and the rest of Europe with national and international partners. Abengoa operates in this industry by producing renewable hydrogen using technologies such as the reforming of biofuels, the integration of renewable sources with electrolyzers or the use of thermo-chemical cycles combined with high-temperature thermo-solar energy. It is also developing the use of hydrogen in fuel cells with different technologies and in engines and hydrogen turbines. Marine energy Abengoa s objective in the marine energy field is to cover the whole of the value chain (technology, promotion, financing, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance) in marine power parks based on hydrokinetic resources (waves and currents). Abengoa intends to become a world leader for both technology and EPC activities in the marine energy sector. The company s headquarters for this activity are based in Spain, although it already has a presence in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the USA either directly or through alliances and agreements with partners. In 2012, Abengoa through Nautimus participated in the first engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services initiative to support the development and implementation of wave and tidal energy projects in collaboration with the Swedish electricity company Vattenfall and the British engineering firm Babcock. 8
