CHOC offers a state of the art main hospital and many primary and specialty care clinics, over 100 additional programs and services, a pediatric residency program, and four centers of excellence. Heels 2 Heal Orange County has decided to focus our support on the Teen Room in the new Bill Holmes Tower at CHOC by pledging $500,000 over the next few years. Being diagnosed with an illness and hospitalized at a time when life itself is stressful and the body is undergoing a host of physical and psychological changes can be particularly challenging for a young adult. Developmentally, adolescence is a phase of life where peer interaction and social engagement is of the utmost importance. Adolescents with chronic health conditions often feel isolated and alone when hospitalized. CHOC Children s recognizes the unique needs of young adult population and strives to provide opportunity and space for adolescents to engage in activities that will take their minds off the everyday issues of living with illness and connection to other teens. CHOC s Teen Room promises to provide a teen specific space dedicated to supporting comprehensive innovative programs that assist teens coping with and adjusting to the hospital environment and help meet their developmental, social, emotional and psychological needs.
