The strain of the cancer treatments and the appearance-related side effects can be devastating. Perhaps the hardest part is getting used to looking in the mirror. THERE IS HOPE AND HELP Since 2003, Mondays at Racine, a non-profit organization located in a salon in Islip, NY has been offering complimentary beauty and wellness services to anyone undergoing cancer treatment. To date, more than 6,000 people have received these services at no cost, allowing them to put all of their focus and energy into one thing... BEATING CANCER As physicians, oncologists and healthcare professionals heard about the transformative lifechanging effects of these treatments, they referred their patients to Mondays at Racine. As a result, the waiting list for an appointment grew from weeks to months. RE-DEFINING THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY Sisters Cynthia, Rachel, Karla and Rosemary personally saw the devastating effects of cancer after their mother, Mildred, was diagnosed and founded the Mondays at Racine program in her honor. It is their vision to train and support a network of salons who will offer these muchneeded services in every community. They called upon their peers in the beauty industry, their healthcare referral network and the public to support this endeavor and the Long Island Beauty Ball for Cancer Care was founded in This inspiring inaugural event enabled Mondays at Racine to open six charter salons across Long Island. With the funds raised at the 2016 Long Island Beauty Ball, the goal is to double that amount. With your support, thousands of Long Islanders will be positively impacted by these services. 2 W H O W E A R E ong island H O S T E D B Y M O N D AY S AT R A C I N E WHERE BEAUTY & WELLNESS MEET TO ENHANCE THE LIVES OF THOSE LIVING WITH CANCER MONDAYS AT RACINE is a non-profit organization located in a salon in Islip, NY where every Monday complimentary beauty and wellness services are provided to women and men with a diagnosis of cancer. Since 2003, more than 6,000 cancer patients and survivors have received Mondays at Racine services and thousands more have participated in their expert-led educational programs. The diagnosis and treatment of cancer can have a real effect on self-image and for many, the hardest part is getting used to looking in the mirror. Treatment can cause changes in complexion, hair, nails, eyelashes and eyebrows. Sometimes, a person can appear sicker than he or she actually feels. Led by specially trained and licensed professionals at Mondays at Racine, guests learn how to minimize the side effects of treatment with innovative techniques specifically geared towards the beauty challenges that people living with cancer and cancer survivors face every day. By using these techniques and embracing their appearance, guests can improve their self-image and sense of well-being and feel empowered to live their best life. Many are able to rejoin the workforce sooner than without these services. The transformative, life-changing effect of Mondays at Racine was captured on film in the 2013 awardwinning HBO documentary that won the hearts and minds of America. I really look great. Cancer remains the second-leading cause of death in the US, with more than 1,800 new cases diagnosed each month on LI alone. Mondays at Racine responds with free beauty and wellness services designed to help at every stage of the cancer journey.
