7 The Poznan Dry Port profile Poznan Dry port is not an integrated area or entity A few intermodal operators use different terminals for reloading purposes There is no tendency of operators for co-operation within one terminal None of terminals offers any additional services apart from reloads and customs services. In surroundings of Poznan there is ca sqm of warehousing space running by leading logistics operators offering wide range of transport, freight forwarding and logistics services.

16 Major shortcomings of the transport node in the Poznan agglomeration Unfavourable location of the oldest container terminals and no possibility of their extension. Limitations in terms of track infrastructure of terminals (except for the new container terminal in Gądki) making it impossible to serve container trains without additional manoeuvres, whereas the effective service requires tracks of at least 600 m in length. Traffic problems of container terminals in Poznan, Kobylnica and Swarzędz-Jasin related to the quality and accessibility of local roads. Poor connection of warehouse centres in Sady with container terminals. The situation will improve after the western stretch of the ring-road of Poznan is completed in 2012.

17 Perspectives for development of the Poznan Dry Port The high capacity Polzug container terminal has big potential for development 2 other terminals in operation have supplementary role There are plans for the private investment in Swarzędz next to VW works There is another opportunity for the next modern container terminal to be build at the marshalling yard in Franowo (one of the biggest in Poland)

18 Identification of investment needs Sufficient track infrastructure within the city securing good connectivity of all existing terminals There is a need for upgrading railroad infrastructure connecting Poznan with the main markets (Warsaw, Wrocław, Bydgoszcz and Gdansk) Extension the local roads surrounding the container terminals in Kobylnica and Swarzędz- Jasin. Completing of the Poznan ring road is required to improve transit through,the city as well as to connect the North part of agglomeration with the south railway facilities. o Its eastern stretch will be commissioned in mid o The western stretch will be put to use at the end of o The northern section of the ring-road of Poznań is still missing and there is no information on its completion date. It should be assumed that it will be built after 2013.

21 Cluster s main activities Support to business sector assessment the quality and accessibility of the local transport infrastructure identification of problems and bottlenecks of the infrastructure and taking common measures for their elimination. consultancy in preparing grounds for logistics activities. applying for funds for development of container terminals, roads, railway sidings and loading facilities. in order to increase capacity of the dry port as a whole. Support to local administration presentation of development needs of transport infrastructure recommendation of measures to eliminate problems and bottlenecks consultancy of public legislative and planning initiatives referring to enhancement of containerised traffics
