The Upgrade Assessment Tl prvides the fllwing functinality: Retrieves device driver cmpatibility infrmatin fr installed peripheral devices and creates reprts that yu can use t determine which device drivers need t be upgraded t supprt the Windws perating system. Allws yu t see which cmputers meet the recmmended system requirements fr Windws perating systems and t custmize these requirements fr yur envirnments. Creates summary reprts that yu can use t see an enterprise wide view f perating system upgrade readiness. Allws yu t create dynamic cllectins fr an perating system deplyment. The cllectin query rules can be based n system requirements, applicatin cmpatibility status, and device driver status.

Site Hierarchy: Yu can use the Upgrade Assessment Tl t cnnect t either the central administratin site r t ne f the primary sites. This lets yu set the scpe f the upgrade assessment t the entire hierarchy r t clients that are assigned t a single primary site. If the Upgrade Assessment Tl cnnects t a central administratin site and the SQL Server distributed view Hardware inventry cnfiguratin ptin is enabled fr any f the replicatin links between a primary site and the central administratin site, yu must install the Upgrade Assessment Tl n the cmputer that runs the central administratin site database.

6 Warning As sn as the Upgrade Assessment Tl is cnfigured t cnnect t a site and synchrnize, cnnecting the Upgrade Assessment Tl t a different site in the hierarchy is nt supprted. There are fur main steps t install and cnfigure the tl: 1. Cnfigure the Applicatin Cmpatibility Tlkit (ACT) 6. Yu use this tl t determine whether the cmputers in yur rganizatin are cmpatible with versins f the Windws perating system. By using ACT, yu can btain cmpatibility infrmatin frm Micrsft and sftware vendrs, identify cmpatibility issues in yur wn rganizatin, and share cmpatibility ratings with ther ACT users. The tls in ACT help yu analyze and mitigate cmpatibility issues befre yu deply a versin f Windws t yur rganizatin. 2. Create and deply a data-cllectin package. Yu create and deply a data-cllectin package t cmputers t cllect inventry data that will be upladed t the ACT database. 3. Install and cnfigure the Upgrade Assessment Tl. Yu use this tl t determine whether the cmputers that are managed by Micrsft System Center 2012 Cnfiguratin Manager can run Windws 7 r Windws Perfrm Upgrade Assessment Tl synchrnizatin. The Upgrade Assessment Synchrnizatin Service cnnects t the Cmpatibility Online Service, yur ACT database, and yur System Center 2012 Cnfiguratin Manager site database, and then synchrnizes the cmpatibility data fr the upgrade assessment reprts.

7 Use the fllwing prcedures t help yu cmplete these steps. T cnfigure the Applicatin Cmpatibility Tlkit 1. T start the Applicatin Cmpatibility Tlkit Cnfiguratin Wizard, click Start, click All Prgrams, click Windws Kits, click Windws ADK, clickapplicatin Cmpatibility Tlkit, and then click Applicatin Cmpatibility Manager. 2. Cmplete the wizard, which includes the fllwing: Run an ACT Lg Prcessing Service n the lcal cmputer. Fr mre infrmatin abut Lg Prcessing Service shared files, see Lg File Lcatins fr Data-Cllectin Packages. Create a new r existing ACT database. Fr mre infrmatin abut hw t create an ACT database, see ACT Database Cnfiguratin. Specify the lg file lcatin t use t cllect data frm the cmputers in yur envirnment. Fr mre infrmatin abut hw t set Lg Prcessing Service permissins, see ACT Lg Prcessing Service Share Permissins Cnfigure yur ACT Lg Prcessing Service accunt. In the Applicatin Cmpatibility Manager cnsle, select the Cllect tab t pen the Cllect screen. 2. On the File menu, click New. 3. Select the Inventry cllectin package type t cllect a list f installed applicatins. 4. On the Set up yur inventry package page, prvide the package infrmatin, and then click Create. Make sure that the flder yu specify froutput Lcatin matches the ACT lg shared flder that yu created in the previus prcedure. 5. Brwse t the lcatin t save the Windws Installer (.msi) file fr the package, specify a file name fr the.msi file, and then click Save. 6. Cmplete the Create a data-cllectin package wizard. 7. Deply the data-cllectin package t the cmputers that yu want t assess. Use yur preferred methd t deply the package. Fr example, yu can deply the package by using applicatin management in Cnfiguratin Manager. Or, yu can use ther deplyment methds, such as Grup Plicy r lgn scripts. When the package is installed n the cmputers, the package cllects infrmatin abut applicatins that are installed n the cmputer and cllects that infrmatin in the ACT lg share flder. 8 T install and cnfigure the Upgrade Assessment Tl 1. Dwnlad the Upgrade Assessment Tl frm the Micrsft Cnnect site. 2. Frm the dwnladed files, run UpgradeAssessmentTl.msi t install the tl. 3. Click Start, click All Prgrams, and then click Upgrade Assessment Tl. Cnfigure the fllwing: a. Cmpatibility Online Service: Specify the prxy server, if it is required, t cnnect t the Cmpatibility Online Service website by using HTTPS. Nte In the Applicatin Cmpatibility Tlkit dcumentatin, the Cmpatibility Online Service is referred t as the Micrsft Cmpatibility Exchange web service. b. Applicatin Cmpatibility Tlkit: Specify the ACT database details and credentials. Click Verify t verify that the Upgrade Assessment Tl Synchrnizatin Service can cnnect t the database successfully by using the credentials that yu prvided and whether the database is a valid ACT 6 database. c. Cnfiguratin Manager: Specify the Cnfiguratin Manager site database details and credentials. Click Verify t cnfirm that the Upgrade Assessment Tl Synchrnizatin Service can cnnect t the database successfully by using the credentials that yu prvided and whether the database is a valid site database. d. Click Apply t save the changes. e. Synchrnizatin Service: Click Start t start the Upgrade Assessment Tl Synchrnizatin Service. f. Optinally, enable and cnfigure the schedule s that synchrnizatin autmatically runs. T manually synchrnize the Upgrade Assessment Tl 1. Click Start, click All Prgrams, and then click Upgrade Assessment Tl. 2. Click Synchrnizatin Service and make sure that the service is started. 3. Click Synchrnize. T mnitr synchrnizatin activity, use the UATSyncs.lg in the Upgrade Assessment Tl installatin directry.
