Yu shuld review all f the infrmatin in this dcument befre yu begin using this release f Translatin Manager. What is Translatin Manager 9.3.1? Translatin Manager is a Web-based data mapping applicatin that enables users t build and maintain data mapping rules quickly and easily utside the Hyperin Applicatin Link integratin design envirnment. These rules are then utilized at integratin runtime thrugh the use f Translatin Adapter. Translatin Manager prvides functinality t minimize the time needed t develp, manage, and maintain the data mapping rules that are required t integrate a variety f external data surces with Hyperin s Business Perfrmance Management suite f applicatins. 1

2 Cmpatible Sftware This release f Translatin Manager is cmpatible with the fllwing sftware releases: Translatin Adapter Applicatin Link 9.2 and 7.0 Hyperin Shared Services Supprted Internatinal Operating Systems This release f Translatin Manager is certified n the fllwing internatinal perating systems: Language French Japanese Operating Systems Windws NT4.0 SP5+, Windws 2003, Windws 2000, Windws XP Windws NT4.0 SP5+, Windws 2003, Windws 2000, Windws XP Installatin Updates Upgrading If yu upgrade any Hyperin prduct t release 9.3.1, yu must als upgrade Hyperin Shared Services t release Supprted Upgrade Paths If yu are upgrading frm a previus release f Hyperin prducts, nte the fllwing supprted upgrade paths: t Nte: Upgrading frm 9.2 releases prir t will be supprted in an upcming service pack x t If yu are using a release prir t , yu must first upgrade t ne f the versins nted abve, and then upgrade t See the prduct installatin guides fr the prducts yu are using fr upgrade prcedures. 2

3 Hyperin License Cmpliance Hyperin n lnger ships r requires Hyperin License Server (r standalne license files) fr use with Hyperin prducts. T ensure cmpliance with yur license agreement, Hyperin recmmends that yu implement an auditing prcess. In additin, during prduct cnfiguratin with Hyperin Cnfiguratin Utility, yu activate nly the features yu purchased. After yu cnfigure each prduct, yu must pen the registry.prperties file in <Hyperin_Hme>\cmmn\cnfig n the server n which yu ran Hyperin Cnfiguratin Utility t review and edit the prduct ptins. Yu must cmplete this step t ensure yu cmply with yur license agreement and t activate features yu are licensed t use. Fr mre infrmatin, see Hyperin License Cmpliance in Hyperin Installatin Start Here. Cnfiguratin Cnfiguratin f Translatin Manager has been standardized by means f Hyperin Cnfiguratin Utility. This utility enables the cnfiguratin f multiple Hyperin prducts at the same time. User prvisining is dne thrugh the Shared Services User Management Cnsle. Nte: On UNIX platfrms, it is recmmended that all Hyperin applicatins be installed with the same user name. All Hyperin prducts install cmmn third-party and internal cmpnents under HYPERION_HOME. Installing them under the same user accunt ensures that installers have the permissins required t mdify the HYPERION_HOME lcatin n UNIX platfrms. The Hyperin User Management Guide fr instructins n prvisining users. Knwn Installatin Issue Translatin Manager cannt be aut-deplyed t WebSphere ND. If WebSphere is installed with the Netwrk Deplyment ptin, the aut-deplyment prcess fr Translatin Manager des nt run crrectly. Fr installatin in such an envirnment, use the manual deplyment ptin t create the necessary Web archive r Enterprise archive, depending n the applicatin, and use the WebSphere applicatin deplyment tl t deply the applicatin t the required instance. Other Knwn Issues When managing Shared Services mdels and naming applicatins, yu cannt use the frward slash (/), backslash (\), r duble qutatin ( ) characters. All ther alphanumeric and special characters can be used in applicatin names. 3

4 Using Hyperin Cnfiguratin Utility t redeply an existing Web applicatin t WebLgic 8.1.x des nt wrk prperly. A wrkarund is t first undeply the Web applicatin using the applicatin server admin cnsle, and then use Hyperin Cnfiguratin Utility t deply the Web applicatin fresh. Translatin Manager stres the passwrd fr database cnnectivity in the HtmDB.prperties file in encrypted frm. Ensure this file is secure and is nt universally accessible r readable. Micrsft SQL Server databases with hyphens ( - ) in their names are nt supprted. On UNIX platfrms, the cnfiguratin tl script (cnfigtl.sh) thrws an errr that the.hyperin.hst name file des nt exist r is nt readable. This happens nly if the hst name has repeating characters (fr example, the "ll" in scplng2-install r the "pp" in guppy). The wrkarund fr this issue is t remve the fllwing statement frm the cnfigtl.sh script befre running it: tr -s '[A-Z]' '[a-z]' When yu exprt a rules table, the file dwnlad dialg bx displays a crrupted default file name if the file name cntains nn-latin characters. Yu can type a new exprt file name t verride the default. Translatin Manager des nt prvide supplemental prgress feedback fr lng-running prcesses such as data imprt, data exprt, and translatin table validatin. The default brwser (Internet Explrer 6) status bar prgress indicatr is the nly sign that a lngrunning prcess is active. Sme f the rule syntax reserved characters d nt migrate prperly when the TMMigrate utility is run. As a result, the rule is nt saved prperly during a rule imprt int Translatin Manager. Please review the migrated rule file befre imprting it int Translatin Manager, and use the crrect escape character fr any reserved characters. See the Hyperin Translatin Manager User s Guide fr a list f reserved characters and the crrect escape character. On HP-UX systems, when the Hyperin Hme Migratin Utility is used t cpy Hyperin Hme cmpnents t a new lcatin, the migratin utility smetimes des nt remve cmpnents frm the ld lcatin. On UNIX platfrms, Applicatin Server Deplyment r Web Server Cnfiguratin tasks may fail if the temprary flder (as defined by the TEMP envirnment variable) cntains *- build.xml files created by anther user. Ensure that *-build.xml files d nt exist in the temprary flder befre running Hyperin Cnfiguratin Utility. If yu are using Windws Server 2003 Service Pack 1 with Hyperin prducts, yur system may experience an abnrmal shutdwn. T prevent this, install the update frm Micrsft by ging t: Tips and Trubleshting The Translatin Manager repsitry database user name, passwrd, and database name must be created in English. 4

5 Translatin Manager des nt supprt repsitry database access thrugh native Windws NT user authenticatin. A native database username must be created fr access t the Translatin Manager repsitry, and it must be in English. Imprted translatin tables are nt autmatically saved. When yu imprt a translatin table, a reminder is displayed in the page infrmatin area, and yu are given the pprtunity t save the imprted infrmatin. The maximum length f a member list flder name is 80 characters. Member list flder names lnger than apprximately 20 characters are truncated, and scrlling is required. Translatin rule reserved characters (*,?, \, and s n) must be typed using the English (single-byte) representatin f the characters. Fr instance, Japanese platfrms supprt bth single-byte and duble-byte representatins f these characters, but Translatin Manager des nt recgnize duble-byte representatins during the validatin r translatin prcess. The search capability n the Edit Rule page shares the same wildcard rule syntax as any translatin rule. When yu search by wildcard, escape all reserved characters with a \ ntatin. Fr example, t search fr all range rules beginning with 500~ use the fllwing syntax: 500\~* Translatin Manager infrmatin and errr lg messages are utput t the default applicatin server cnsle. Tmcat cnsle lg infrmatin is nt saved t disk and is nly available in the fregrund cnsle windw. Because this infrmatin may be required t debug installatin, cnfiguratin, r lgin issues, Hyperin recmmends that yu run the Tmcat applicatin server as a fregrund prcess during the installatin validatin prcess. After the installatin and access t the system is cnfirmed, yu can cnfigure Tmcat t run as a Windws NT/2000 service. Translatin tables are lcked whenever a user edits r validates a rule table. These lcks prevent tw users frm editing the same table and the translatin adapter frm using a table if it is being edited. Table lcks are remved in the fllwing events: Whenever yu leave the edit, design, imprt, r validate pages using an applicatin menu r buttn Nte: The lck is nt remved if yu use the brwser s Back buttn. Whenever yu lg ff Translatin Manager If yu clse the brwser during a table edit sessin, after yur Translatin Manager Web applicatin sessin times ut T ensure that all table lcks are prperly released, Hyperin recmmends that yu always use the Lgff link t end a Translatin Manager sessin. The Translatin Manager Web applicatin sessin timeut length is cntrlled and maintained by yur applicatin server. T alter the timeut parameter fr Tmcat, JRun, WebLgic, and WebSphere, please use the respective administrative cnsles fr thse prducts. Applicatin Server Java Virtual Machine (JVM) heap size settings can als impact rule table save perfrmance. Hyperin recmmends an applicatin server JVM heap size f 128MB fr ptimum perfrmance. Yu can change heap size using the applicatin server-specific prcedures described in the fllwing table: 5
