7 CHAPTER 1 GETTING STARTED Internet access t dwnlad SMART sftware IMPORTANT Sme features require access t specific websites. Yu might need t whitelist thse websites if yu restrict utbund Internet access. Fr further infrmatin, see SMART Ntebk and SMART Respnse VE add-ns behave unexpectedly behind a firewall r prxy. Installatin packages There is ne installatin package (als knwn as a PKG file) fr the Educatin Sftware Installer: esi2015april.pkg. This installatin package is lcated at the rt f the DVD. Alternatively, yu can dwnlad the installatin package frm smarttech.cm/administratrdwnlads. Activatin Cnnectivity When yu deply SMART Ntebk sftware, make sure the cmputers can access SMART's web activatin services. Otherwise, the cmputers will nt be able t activate prduct keys, during r after installatin. The activatin web services are accessible at the fllwing URLs: When viewed in a web brwser, each f the abve URLs shuld display a WSDL dcument. NOTE If these sites are blcked by a prxy in yur rganizatin, add the URLs t the prxy s. SMART Install Manager and Activatin Wizard will test these URLs and indicate success r failure. When yu use the SMART Install Manager tl, cnsider that yu, as an administratr, may have less restricted access t the Internet than standard users. It is imprtant t install SMART Ntebk sftware n a standard user s cmputer and use the Activatin Wizard cnnectivity tester t cnfirm cnnectivity. 3 smarttech.cm/kb/170901

8 CHAPTER 1 GETTING STARTED Using SMART Install Manager Start the cnnectivity tester by pressing the Check Activatin Server buttn. The tester will appear and shw three green check marks t indicate success. SMART Install Manager will als prmpt yu t use the cnnectivity tester at the time f publishing custmizatins. Using Activatin Wizard In the Activatin Wizard yu can access the cnnectivity tester frm the Advanced drp-dwn menu in the lwer left f the Activatin Wizard.The tester will appear and shw three green check marks t indicate success. Installing SMART Install Manager Install SMART Install Manager frm the DVD. OR Dwnlad and install SMART Install Manager frm the SMART Supprt website. T install SMART Install Manager frm the DVD 1. Insert the DVD in yur cmputer s DVD drive. 2. Brwse t Administratrs/Mac n the [DVD drive], and then click SMART Install Manager.pkg. The SMART Install Manager installatin wizard appears. 3. Scrll t SMART Ntebk cllabrative learning sftware, click Chse a versin, and then select SMART Ntebk sftware > 15 fr Mac. 3. Click Dwnlad SMART Install Manager, and then click Dwnlad. 4. Save the SMART Install Manager.dmg file t yur cmputer. 5. Duble-click the SMART Install Manager.dmg file t munt the disk image. 6. Duble-click the SMART Install Manager.pkg file. The SMART Install Manager installatin wizard appears. 7. Fllw the n-screen instructins. Using SMART Install Manager After yu install SMART Install Manager, yu can start it by pening Finder, brwsing t Applicatins/SMART Technlgies, and then duble-clicking Install Manager. With SMART Install Manager, yu can d the fllwing: Open and custmize an installatin package. Save yur changes t the installatin package as an XML file. Publish yur changes t the installatin package as a new PKG file. Opening an installatin package T custmize an installatin package, drag its DMG r PKG file int the SMART Install Manager windw. Alternatively, yu can brwse fr installatin packages n yur cmputer by clicking. Custmize the installatin package using the cntrls n these pages. Saving yur changes After yu custmize an installatin package, save yur changes as an XML file by selecting File > Save As. When yu next start SMART Install Manager, lad the XML file by selecting File > Open, r by pening the PKG file and then selecting File > Imprt. NOTE All XML files yu create r pen in SMART Install Manager appear in the Mdified Packages tab f the Welcme page. Publishing yur changes as a PKG file The final step in using SMART Install Manager t custmize an installatin package is t publish yur changes as a PKG file. 12 CHAPTER 2 CUSTOMIZING INSTALLATION PACKAGES Custmizing the installatin package T custmize the installatin package, pen the esi2015april.pkg file in SMART Install Manager (see Opening an installatin package n page 6), and then set the cntrls n each page. Cntrl Prcedure Ntes General Optins: Prduct Selectin SMART Prduct Drivers Select t install SMART Prduct Drivers. SMART Ink Select t install SMART Ink. If yu install SMART Ink, yu must install SMART Prduct Drivers. When yu select this check bx, SMART Install Manager selects SMART Prduct Drivers autmatically. SMART Ntebk sftware Prduct key Select t install SMART Ntebk sftware. Read the tw ntes regarding SMART s new sftware licensing, and then select the I acknwledge the abve nte bx lcated under each nte. Type yur 25-character prduct key fr SMART Ntebk sftware. IMPORTANT If yu dn t select the tw license acknwledgment bxes, SMART Ntebk sftware desn t install. Yu can type the prduct key with r withut hyphens. When yu type a vlume prduct key, the sftware activates when yu deply it t yur netwrk cmputers. 8 smarttech.cm/kb/170901

If yu re installing SMART Respnse sftware and students use SMART Ntebk SE (Student Editin) sftware r SMART Respnse VE Internetenabled devices t answer questins, type yur 25-character prduct key fr SMART Respnse sftware. Select t register the prduct keys n a system withut activating them. Registered keys can be activated when users start SMART Ntebk sftware. If yu dn t select this setting, the sftware autmatically activates during installatin rather than manually after installatin. Select t prevent the sftware activatin reminder frm appearing after SMART Ntebk sftware starts. If yu install SMART Respnse sftware, yu must als install SMART Ntebk sftware. When yu select this check bx, SMART Install Manager selects SMART Ntebk autmatically. Yu can type the prduct key with r withut hyphens. When yu type a vlume prduct key, the sftware activates when yu deply it t yur netwrk cmputers. Delaying activatin is useful fr unifrm deplyments that include users wh dn t use SMART Ntebk sftware. Only users wh start SMART Ntebk sftware activate registered keys and cnsume a license. When this checkbx is selected, the sftware activatin reminder appears nly when the SMART Ntebk sftware trial perid expires. 14 CHAPTER 2 CUSTOMIZING INSTALLATION PACKAGES Cntrl Prcedure Ntes General Optins: SMART Prduct Update Install SMART Prduct Update in Full mde Install SMART Prduct Update in Dashbard mde D nt install SMART Prduct Update Select t install SMART Prduct Update (SPU) in Full mde. Select t install SPU in Dashbard mde. Select t nt install SPU. In Full mde, users can view the installed versins f SMART sftware as well as their prduct keys, and dwnlad and install updates. In Dashbard mde, users can view nly the installed versins f SMART sftware and their prduct keys. Check fr updates Type the number f days (1 t 60) between SPU checks. This ptin is available nly if yu install SPU in Full mde. By default, SPU checks fr prduct updates every 30 days. Ntify users abut SMART prduct updates Reset per-user changes t the previus tw settings Select t ntify users f available SMART prduct updates. Select t remve existing Check fr updates and Ntify users abut SMART prduct updates values the next time the user runs SPU. This ptin is available nly if yu install SPU in Full mde. This enables administratrs t push new values fr these settings t cmputers and ensures the new values are accepted. Individual users can still mdify these settings. General Optins: Custmer Experience Enable the Custmer Experience Prgram n all devices Disable the Custmer Experience Prgram n all devices Select t autmatically enable the Custmer Experience Prgram fr all users. Yu can als select Czech, Danish, German, Hungarian, Spanish, Finnish, French, Italian, Nrwegian, Dutch, Plish, Prtuguese, Russian, Swedish, and Chinese (Simplified) in additin t English. Remving SMART Install Manager Yu can remve SMART Install Manager frm yur cmputer if yu n lnger need it. Yu can d this using SMART Uninstaller r Terminal. T remve SMART Install Manager using SMART Uninstaller 1. In Finder, brwse t Applicatins/SMART Technlgies, and then duble-click SMART Uninstaller. The SMART Uninstaller windw appears. 2. Select Install Manager, and then click Remve. A dialg bx appears, prmpting yu t cnfirm the remval. 3. Click OK. 4. Type yur administratr passwrd, and then click OK. T remve SMART Install Manager using Terminal 1. In Finder, brwse t Applicatins/Utilities, and then duble-click Terminal. The Terminal windw appears. 2. Type the fllwing cmmand: sud "/Applicatins/SMART Technlgies/SMART Uninstaller.app/ Cntents/Library/LaunchServices/cm.smarttech.uninstallHelper" -i cm.smarttech.instllmgr10 3. Press RETURN. 4. The fllwing are tw cmmn methds: Use Apple Remte Desktp sftware t manage yur sftware installatins. Use Terminal t install custmized sftware n each cmputer. NOTE Fr mre infrmatin n using Apple Remte Desktp sftware, refer t the dcumentatin yu received with the sftware. T deply SMART sftware using Apple Remte Desktp sftware 1. Cpy the PKG file that yu created with SMART Install Manager t a server that is accessible t all the cmputers yu want t install the sftware n. 15 smarttech.cm/kb/170901

20 CHAPTER 3 DEPLOYING THE SOFTWARE 2. Using Apple Remte Desktp sftware n the server, select the cmputers that yu want t update. 3. Select Install Packages. A dialg bx appears. 4. Drag the PKG file t the Packages bx in the dialg bx. 5. Click Install. The sftware installs n the selected cmputers. T deply SMART sftware using Terminal 1. In Finder, brwse t Applicatins/Utilities, and then duble-click Terminal. The Terminal windw appears. 2. Type the fllwing cmmand: sud installer -target / -pkg "[Path]/[File name].pkg" Where [Path] is the path t the PKG file. [File name] is the name f the PKG file. NOTE This cmmand installs nly SMART Ntebk sftware, SMART Prduct Drivers and SMART Respnse sftware if yu haven t custmized the PKG file using SMART Install Manager. 3. Press RETURN. 4. Type yur administratr passwrd, and then press RETURN. Activating the sftware during installatin If yu want t activate SMART Ntebk sftware during deplyment, yu can use either f the fllwing recmmended practices, depending n yur deplyment methd: System imaging: If yu use system imaging, d nt activate the sftware befre yu freeze the image. Yu can use the Delayed Activatin feature t register yur prduct key n the system befre freezing it. After the image is deplyed, SMART Ntebk sftware, will prmpt yu t activate the registered prduct key. 21 CHAPTER 3 DEPLOYING THE SOFTWARE Netwrk deplyment: If yu use a netwrk deplyment tl such as Apple Remte Desktp, yu can specify yur prduct keykey nrmally in Install Manager r by using cmmand-line parameters. Activatin will ccur during installatin n each individual cmputer. Activating the sftware after installatin There are tw situatins in which the sftware desn t activate cmpletely: Imaging a cmputer: Activatin is linked t the hardware identifier f the cmputer n which the sftware is installed and activated. If yu clne a hard drive image with installed and activated sftware, yu must activate the sftware n each clned cmputer. Reverting a cmputer t an earlier state: If yu use system recvery r prtectin sftware that peridically restres the cmputer t an earlier state, yu might need t activate the sftware befre lcking the cmputer s that the activatin recrd is nt cleared each time the cmputer is restred. Run the activatin wizard while the cmputer is cnnected t the netwrk, r cmplete the fllwing prcedure t activate the sftware n each cmputer. NOTE SMART Prduct Drivers dn t require activatin. T activate SMART sftware after installatin 1. In Finder, brwse t /Applicatins/Utilities, and then duble-click Terminal. The Terminal windw appears. 17 smarttech.cm/kb/170901

Instructins fr activating all ther mdes are included in the SMART Respnse dcumentatin. Renewing keys If yur schl has purchased maintenance r subscriptin licenses, SMART sftware attempts t renew the keys autmatically n a scheduled basis befre and after the keys expiry dates. Hwever, yu can chse t explicitly renew the keys at a specified time. Yu can als chse t disable autmatic renewal in situatins where yu dn t want the keys n a cmputer t be renewed (because, fr example, yu re planning t retire the cmputer). 19 smarttech.cm/kb/170901

Subscriptin licenses are labeled with the expiratin date f the key. Renewing keys in unattended mde T renew all keys Run the fllwing cmmand: /Library/Applicatin\ Supprt/SMART\ Technlgies/ activatinwizard.app/cntents/macos/activatinwizard --m=15 --v=3 --renewal-mde all T renew all keys assciated with a single prduct Run the fllwing cmmand: /Library/Applicatin\ Supprt/SMART\ Technlgies/ activatinwizard.app/cntents/macos/activatinwizard --m=15 --v=3 --renewal-mde prduct --puid=[prduct] Where [Prduct] is respnse_15 r educatin_bundle. NOTE This cmmand renews all keys assciated with the specified prduct. T renew specific keys Run the fllwing cmmand: /Library/Applicatin\ Supprt/SMART\ Technlgies/ activatinwizard.app/cntents/macos/activatinwizard --m=15 --v=3 --renewal-mde prduct --puid=[prduct] "[Prduct keys]" Where [Prduct] is respnse_15 r educatin_bundle.
