2 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT Almost twenty years ago a handful of business owners formed a cohesive group known as the Historic Monument Merchants Association (HMMA), committed to raising awareness of the Monument downtown district. HMMA is a non-profit organization (501(c)6) that supports continuing efforts to maintain the small town feel of Monument. HMMA s goal is to give back to the community by enriching the lives of the young and old through the arts, helping to preserve the past, and developing the future of the Monument area. We accomplish this by offering several events throughout the year that create community involvement and help form a strong bond with area residents. Our members are involved in local government, arts councils, the Tri-Lakes Chamber of Commerce, the local Economic Development Corporation, and several business networking groups that help us keep the pulse on our business district and the community we serve. Our events have developed to the point where sponsors can benefit from the exposure they generate. We thank you in advance for your support of HMMA events. Our members are all independently-owned businesses located within the four-by-two block area of Historic Downtown Monument Colorado. Members pay monthly dues and elect official representatives. Additional members include regional business organizations and area non-profits. Elected officials interface with Town of Monument officials and its Director of Business Development, working closely to address our members concerns. ABOUT HMMA EVENTS Through the generous support from HMMA members, event sponsors and community volunteers, our events are designed to stimulate the lives of residents and visitors. Events also highlight the historic core area of Monument established in 1879 showing and reminding citizens and visitors our area s uniqueness and substance. Our events are free to the public and offer families, residents and visitors a chance to have fun, unwind and relax in a great small town setting. We support these events for our area s greater good and the enrichment of its attendees. To our delight, the events have grown in participation and attendance over the years, filling our streets with a sense of community. Sponsorship funds and additional fund raising through the sale of food, drinks, etc., go toward event improvement, downtown beautification projects and/or area non-profits. 4 ART HOP The galleries, restaurants and boutiques of historic downtown Monument stay open until 8:00pm for a community-wide celebration of fine arts, crafts, live music, art openings, artist demos and book signings. This adult-oriented free cultural event enriches and builds awareness of the strong art influences in our area. Started in 2002, this summer series of events fosters an atmosphere of appreciation for local, regional and national talents. The town is abuzz with people moving between the different locations. 5 SAFE TRICK OR TREAT Kids and their parents come downtown to show off their creative costumes and enjoy an afternoon of safe trick-or-treating as Monument merchants provide treats and activities. The streets are filled with laughter and excitement as family groups, friends and onlookers celebrate the stimulation of our children s imagination. The Monument Police Department patrols the streets to help ensure the safety of our goblins. These vouchers can be redeemed at a local store for costume purchase before the event. (limited number and value) Date: October 31st, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Location: The streets and participating businesses of Historic Downtown Monument Cost to the public: Free Past years attendance: 1,000 children and parents This event will be canceled in event of rain or snow. This event will not be rescheduled.

6 SMALL TOWN CHRISTMAS A Saturday full of holiday activities include a visit from Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves, holiday crafts, reindeer, miniature donkeys, carolers, hayrides and other special events as the merchants of the historic downtown celebrate a Small Town Christmas.
