1 Student Liaison Officer Ref: ,000-22,800 Salary Circa 37 Hours per Week Maternity Cover - Fixed Term Contract until October 2017 The department of Student Services and Support are currently seeking a Student Liaison Officer to undertake a liaison role in relation to the Student Union to ensure that an active union meets the requirements of prevailing legislation, College procedures and the Student Union Constitution. You will also lead and manage the College Shop in developing shop services offered to students and staff. To initiate and develop social, cultural, welfare and recreational activities on behalf of the student union body and encourage learner involvement. The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 5 GCSE grades A-C including English and maths or equivalent. You will have proven experience of working with young people from a wide social and economic background. 4 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Reports to: Student Liaison Officer Student Services Manager Grade: Support Staff Overall Responsibilities: To undertake a liaison role in relation to the Student Union to ensure that an active union meets the requirements of prevailing legislation, College procedures and the Student Union Constitution. To lead and manage the College Shop in developing shop services offered to students and staff. To initiate and develop social, cultural, welfare and recreational activities on behalf of the student union body and encourage learner involvement. Main Tasks: 1. To operate as the first point of contact and liaison for the Student Union and support all relevant meetings such as executive meetings, Student Services/Student Union meetings. 2. To provide a supervisory role for the Student Union team and to work closely with the Student Union and give advice which will ensure that the Union is efficient, effective, democratic and accountable in all its activities, including staff training. 3. To ensure that all legislation and other requirements are met in relation to the Student Union s operation e.g. election requirements, complaints procedure etc. 4. To coordinate the Student Ambassadors, including recruitment, training and involvement in activities throughout the academic year. 5. To arrange and ensure consistent attendance at the Learner Voice Group and Course Representatives. 6. To lead and manage the College Shop team in maintaining a well-stocked service which meets the needs and expectations of customers. To develop new services and initiative in order to maximise the service to students and staff. 7. To encourage and develop learner involvement e.g. course representatives system, cross college focus groups, Borough youth councils, National and Regional Learner Panels. 8. To work with a wide range of College and external groups to provide a comprehensive programme of social, cultural, recreational and welfare activities designed to enrich students experience. 9. To take responsibility for all the health and safety requirements, including risk assessment for all Student Union and enrichment activities and The Student Zone.

To liaise with the Student Services Manager and the Student Union President on a regular basis to ensure that the Student Union finances are fully recorded and accountable for audit purposes. 11. Work to promote and contribute to the College s Equality and Diversity Policy 12. To undertake such other duties as may be required by or on behalf of the Colchester Institute provided that they are consistent with the nature of the post.
