1 Subject Leader a. Job Title: Subject Leader for PE b. Grade: Main Pay Spine plus TLR 2A c. Responsible to : The Head teacher within the framework of the School Leadership Team d. Location; High Storrs School e. Conditions: The duties and responsibilities as defined in the current School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document in operation f. Job Purpose: To coordinate teaching and learning within PE The effective delivery, of the highest quality Teaching & Learning, to students at High Storrs School. To coordinate the devising of schemes of work within the PE team. To devise subject improvement plans, the evaluation of these plans and the work of PE To manage the subject capitation for PE To lead on Personnel Matters within PE g. Principal Accountabilities: Leadership Leadership To lead PE To support the development of subject learning resources for PE by leading on curriculum planning and advising on options guidance To be involved in the Performance review of the PE and subject colleagues. To support student assessment, and high quality reporting procedures within PE To monitor the examination Performance of PE To manage, in an effective and participative manner, the quality of teaching and learning in PE, developing strategies to maximise quality of delivery and achievement levels for all abilities. To line manage colleagues within PE To monitor, control, support and evaluate the use of subject resources, including staffing ensuring appropriate deployment and contribute to proposals for new resourcing. To seek, compile, evaluate and disseminate information appropriate to the effective delivery of teaching and learning within PE To manage and develop administrative systems as appropriate. To interpret all policies for implementation at subject level. To manage the subject in such a manner as to ensure the meeting of the requirements of the National Curriculum and examination syllabi, the delivery of quality teaching and learning, To manage the tracking of student progress including data analysis and devising and implementing intervention plans where appropriate. To maintain an overview of the KS4 and Post 16 options process for the subject Regular line management meetings with SLT and Subject staff to monitor impact of improvement. Design, implement and evaluate communication systems for PE including subject meetings Teaching and learning Accountability for Improvement of Teaching and Learning in PE. Monitoring of PE Assessment and Examination systems including Tracking and the coordination of Target Setting for PE students and the Examination Review. Supporting intervention strategies to tackle underachievement in PE including support for vulnerable groups.

2 Curriculum Overall Leadership of the curriculum within PE including curriculum design and, evaluation, ensuring appropriate routes for all abilities. Overall accountability for monitoring of programmes of learning and lesson planning, specifically focusing on appropriate differentiation. Regular meeting with colleagues to develop the subject. Meeting with other subject leaders to develop provision and share effective practice within and across the curriculum. Coordinate subject involvement in Literacy, Numeracy and extra-curricular provision Special Educational Needs and Disability The post holder will know the range of student abilities in the subject and ensure that all students can, and do, make progress in their learning. This will involve: Making colleagues aware of the individual learning needs of the students in each teaching group ensuring that learning resources are appropriate and enable students to access learning at the highest possible level using a range of appropriate learning strategies/activities to meet the needs of all students working with Learning Support staff to meet the needs of individual students planning with Learning Support Assistants to manage roles and responsibilities contributing to Individual Learning Plans through effective target setting and assessment Quality Assurance Complete the PE Improvement plan, ensuring whole school improvement priorities are addressed within it. Support the SE annual cycle within PE Act as Performance reviewer for identified staff and that targets set are rigorous and reflect whole school and Faculty improvement plan. Producing the PE SEF. Identification of Strengths and Areas for Improvement through SE and SIT/QA across the subject Supporting the reward system and the system for positive behaviour. Staff Development To identify training needs for subject staff. To establish and lead in-house PE training and development as appropriate. To establish clear support mechanisms for PE colleagues To serve as an appraiser and coach as appropriate. Support of staff who are causing concern Resources Lead, manage and monitor all resources, including capitation within PE Accountability and responsibility for ensuring that all school polices are met by every member of staff. Supporting the investigating and addressing complaints from parents. Supporting recruitment process within PE. Communication Attend Middle Leader meetings as outlined on school calendar. Contribute to the development of the PE MLE Coordinate contribution to the termly school newsletter. Coordinate a communication system for PE staff and with parents

3 General Coordinate PE examination entries. Coordinate staff attendance at recruitment evenings and support staff attendance. Participate in meetings within the agreed 1265 time budget at a level commensurate with the post. Any other reasonable duties as directed by Head teacher at a level commensurate with the post. h. Review: This Job Description will be reviewed on an annual basis as participate of the Performance management cycle. It may also be reviewed outside of this cycle at the request of either the post holder or the Head teacher.
