1 Monday, 9 th May, 2016 Week 3, Term 2 Week 3 Monday, 9 th May K-6 Assembly at 3pm Rugby Union Trials We officially welcome Miss Tegan Maher to NPS this week as Mrs Promnitz is now busily preparing for the arrival of her baby. Miss Maher has been a familiar face in our school when teachers are away and I know that Kindergarten are excited to welcome her aboard. We keep watching over the fence and monitoring the progress. It was an exciting moment last Wednesday when we were able to enter the site and walk through the building. We were able to view the rooms and see the actual layout first hand. 2 Mother s Day The very secret business of purchasing a mother s day gift on Friday took place. There were tricky decisions to make and I m sure that mums will have appreciated the deliberation that took place when they opened their gifts on Sunday. Thank you to our hard working P and C and to the mums who came in to help on Friday. Cross Country Amazingly we had perfect weather and lots of enthusiasm for our fun run/ cross country last Thursday. K-2 students had armfuls of stamps to show how hard they had run and our cross country competitors ran either a 2km or 3km course. During the course of the day the tantalising BBQ smells enticed many of us to partake in a sausage sandwich to refuel. Thank you to Mrs Allen for her preparation and for running the track several times to ensure that the course would meet our requirements. Safety School pickup and drop off times can be a busy time with cars, movement and sometimes limited parking. There are designated NO PARKING spaces at the front of the school in Barwan Street that are used to drop off students only. Please be mindful they are used in this way so that you don t incur a fine. Eisteddfod Next week the Eisteddfod starts for us and in this newsletter is an outline of when the performances will take place. Marion Tame Principal

You all got Nikki and I past the post to get the lunches out on time. Every little bit helps and we really appreciate it. Just a reminder that lunch and recess orders should be to us at canteen by 9.15am. This helps us to get the processing done and the appropriate food on quickly. It might help to remind your children that their late order choices are a pie or sausage roll or dinosnacks - that is it. Can you also remind your children to come and buy any fruit they need before school goes in. Fruit break falls at a very busy time for us in the canteen and having to stop our preparation work to serve children can cause us delays. It has been great to see some new faces at canteen. Please come and see us again and help to fill up our roster. Special thanks to Lady Gothique and Lisa-Dees for their generous donations. The stall was a great success and the children love picking special gifts for their mums. There is a roster inside the outer door at canteen or both Mrs McLeish and Mrs Allison have a copy for you to check your day. Please organise a swap if you can t come in for some reason. Thank you. Year 5 Opportunity Class Placement Online application is open until Friday, 13 th May, 2016 accessing the following link. Opportunity classes cater for highly achieving Year 5 and 6 academically gifted students who may have otherwise be without classmates at their own academic and social level. These classes help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level. Parents normally apply when the students are in Year 4. Students who are placed then attend the opportunity class full time in Years 5 and 6 primary school with an opportunity class.

4 Fun Run/Cross Country Well, what an amazing Fun Run we had last Thursday! All students displayed the highest level of sportsmanship and enthusiasm and it was wonderful to see so many students participating in both the Cross Country race and the Fun Run activities. A big thank you to all the staff and parents who spent the day setting up, running activities or manning the track stations. We would also like to thank our incredible P and C for putting on a brilliant BBQ, keeping us all well-fed and nourished.
