Big Breakfast for Feed Melbourne On Tuesday morning more than 100 students participated in the Schools Big Breakfast Appeal to raise funds for Feed Melbourne. Fitzroy High School students from across the year levels donated $5 for their participation in the event and raised more than $650 for an organisation that helps to give meals to people in need. As part of the Appeal, breakfast was donated to all involved and students were given a breakfast consisting of cereal, fruit, yogurt and a tasty hot cross bun. I like knowing I ve helped people so that was good too. Mia BB I participated as a sign of awareness, showing care towards those less fortunate. Indi D I thought it was for a good cause and I wanted to help out. Alex E I thought it was a great way to raise money for an excellent cause. Food was good and it was fun to spend the time with friends. Josh VE School grounds patrolled from 8:30am every morning Due to traffic safety concerns, students are required to enter the school grounds when they arrive, and not wait in Falconer Street.

Breakfast as well! Lois HD It was really great to see such a charitable group of young people support this campaign. It is another great example of our students thinking of others who live in the community. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this a fun experience for everyone while also raising money for a great cause. 3 4th April 2014 volume 10 edition 9 Newsletter Athletics Carnival Thursday April 24th Dear Parent or Guardian, First week back we are having an extraordinary week. Along with Easter Monday and ANZAC Day, we are also going to be having our 2014 FHS Athletics Carnival!!! For those that haven t been through this routine before, here are some basics: Who? The carnival is for everyone from years 7-12 no regular classes will be running. All students can participate in as many events as they want no sign up required and all free! When? Thursday April 24 th all day. Meet at school at 8:45 a.m. and return to school for 3:00 p.m. Where? After meeting at school, we wander over to the Collingwood Harriers track on Heidelberg Rd. All events are held outside in the beauty of nature. Why? Because it is fun!!! All events entered earn points for your house all we want is for people to have a go. This carnival is a genuine good time with people dressing up in house colours, music with dancing and even a bit of sport in between. What? Fitzroy High School s annual internationally renown athletics carnival. A great day to participate in sport, support your house, hang out with friends What to bring: At the venue, we will have some areas of shade as well as a functional canteen, as run by our school canteen with things like sausage sizzle and other vegetarian BBQ favourites. Students are asked to bring: Appropriate clothing to dress in, preferably house colours and being sure to be sun smart and athletic (hats and lots of skin covered) Sunscreen, Snacks and Water Valuables are to be brought at own risk; for a lot of the day, students will have bags on the ground with friends around. Very safe but the school accepts no responsibility for lost/ stolen items. A positive attitude!! Questions? Some students found work experience challenging because they had to travel far, were there for long hours, or had to do hard or repetitive work. We also had to tackle the fact that going to a company or business would be very unusual compared to school for some people. Year 7 Volleyball players For the next work experience block, some people s goals are to get placements in fields that they th th On the 24 to the 28 of March we, the year 10 s, are more completed our first block of work experience. interested in, There was a large variety of placements because some including: Triple R radio station, Brunswick didn t organise Dentist, Melbourne Theatre Company, Kinart themselves early Graphic Design, to name a few. The general enough to get a consensus was that most people really enjoyed well matched their placement and learnt a lot about what real placement or work life is like. Most people chose a field that because they didn t enjoy the field in which they worked. Year 10 Work Experience Overall we think that for some people, work experience was really enlightening because they got to get a taste of a career they aspire to work in. Edie and Zoe they were interested in seeking a career in. The experience was important to give us a preview of the jobs that we re interested in because you might have a different idea of what being a film maker for example involves, and when you get
