One more, last farewell to Niamh and her family as this week is her last week at Vaucluse Public School. Dear Parents Welcome back to Term 3. It is hard to believe we are half way through the school year. When we look at our Kindergarten students it is amazing to see how much they have learnt and progressed. Yesterday s Sports Carnival at Trumper Park was a first for combining K-2 and 3-6. Rather than combine they ran simultaneously and successfully. In Term students spent sports time being coached in Track and Field events. Yesterday s performances indicated our students have really benefited from the skill building program. Our students demonstrated quite a high level of proficiency in the Track and Field events. What was outstanding throughout the day was the positive atmosphere of the carnival. All our students were willing to have a go and do their best. It was wonderful to hear their encouragement and congratulations for each other. What struck me throughout the day was their unequivocal support of each other. It is days like yesterday that confirm for the staff that we are on the right track. We are developing responsible citizens for the twenty first century. Thank you to all those parents who came and supported not only their children but everyone else what great role models!!!! This week all classes have begun a Daily Fitness Program that takes place just before lunch each day. Henry our General Assistant spent the holidays clearing the path alongside of the school so that it can be a running track as part of the program. Each class comes out at 1.00pm and participates in a variety of cardio activities. This program is in addition to the Sports Program.

2 This term is an extremely busy one. We are planning activities for Education Week where we will also include Grandparents Day. We are planning a week of festivities for Bookweek. Preparations are under way for a Father s Day extravaganza and a Walkathon. Each class has an excursion planned to fit in with units of work being studied. Please keep an eye out for notes coming home and our calendar in the newsletter. Next Tuesday and Thursday the school Leaders have planned a K-2 Disco (Tuesday) and a 3-6 Disco (Thursday) during lunchtime. They are asking each student to bring four dollars or a gold coin donation. We have a connection with a breakfast program in Surry Hills for the homeless. It costs four dollars to feed a homeless person and the leaders are hoping to raise money to feed a significant number of homeless people. At the end of last term Semester 1 Reports went home. If you did not receive yours please let us know and we will rectify the situation. Thank you to all those parents who come to be part of the audience at Friday s Assembly. We love having you here as do your children. Maureen Hallahan Principal To conclude Stage 1 Space Unit, students worked together in teams to build their own spaceship out of recycled items. I think we may have new astronomers in the making!

3 Vegie Box News Fruit and Vegetable Boxes are Back commencing 31st July. Wednesday is Fresh Produce Day at VPS. For $40 per week you can enjoy a box of fresh organic fruit and vegetables ready to be collected with your children. A group of parents have created a buyers group and we order wholesale bulk produce and distribute it into mixed boxes which are pre ordered and collected after school. Each box is $40 from which a portion is donated to the P&C. Last year we raised close to $5,000 for the P&C and enjoyed lovely seasonal fruit and vegetables. 7 A message from the Board of Jewish Studies BJE is hosting an amazing event at OBK, 36 Flood St Bondi. If families want to be a part of some baking, arts and craft as well as being the first to see BJE s very own community garden you need to be at OBK from 10am on Sunday 25 Aug. You won t want to miss this!!!!! News from the library Debating Round 2 of the Bondi District Debating will take place next Thursday 25 July at Clovelly Public School. Our opponents in this round will be Bondi Public School. We wish both of our teams the best of luck in their endeavours. Book Fair There will be a book fair in the library during Grandparents Day and Education Week commencing Mon 29 July and concluding on Thurs 1 August. The book fair will provide Grandparents and other family members the opportunity to donate vital resources in the form of new books to our school library.
