1 Principal: Kristine Stewart Address: Board Chairperson: Stephen Tokley P&C President: Adam Smith Ngunnawal Primary School acknowledges and respects the traditional custodians of the land we are on, the Ngunnawal people. Newsletter No March 2015 DATES TO REMEMBER: Wed, 4 March Senior Assembly, 9:15am (6GA, 6KW, 6NK) Monday, 9 March Canberra Day Public Holiday Wed, 11 March Junior School Assembly, 9:15am (1CD & 1CM) Monday, 16 March Gungahlin District Swim Carnival PLEASE NOTE AMENDED DATES Tuesday, 17 March Thurs, 20 March Preschool Welcome Lunch Wed, 25 March Christian Education EXECUTIVE MESSAGE Dear Parents and Carers My name is Stacey Naden and I am the team leader of the preschool and kindergarten team. I am the mother of 2½ year old twins, Thomas and Keira. I have lived in Canberra for 8 years and really love this beautiful city. I have worked in various settings across the ACT Education and Training Directorate, from Koori Preschool and Early Intervention Programs to supervisory roles in our central office. Working as the executive teacher of the preschool and kindergarten team at Ngunnawal Primary School is by far my favourite position. Since school commenced for 2015 on 2 February, I have had the privilege of welcoming 132 new preschool children and their families to our preschool and Koori Preschool programs, as well as 93 kindergarten children to the kindergarten unit. I spend an average of 8 hours each week in the preschool across all the classes and am really enjoying getting to know all the children. I am amazed at the progress they are making in their learning and am looking forward to our year ahead with the children and preschool team of educators. The preschool welcome lunch that was scheduled for this week has been rescheduled for week 7 to align with the whole school s Harmony Week celebrations. We apologise for any disruption this has caused but look forward to seeing those that can make it on Tuesday 17 March or Friday 20 March between 12 noon and 1pm. I am very proud of the smooth transition the kindergarten students have made into their first year of formal schooling. I have 4½ hours a week dedicated to being in the kindergarten unit to work with students and teachers. This may be through individual or small group work, depending on the current needs of the group. The work I will be doing will focus on literacy and numeracy development targeted at the current needs of the students I am working with. I am also the executive teacher facilitating student leadership and active citizenship across the school. This involves working closely with the School Captains and School Vice Captains to create and run a student council to ensure all students have a voice and become active in the school improvement process to make our school a better place. I look forward to meeting and working with all students and families throughout Best wishes Stacey Naden P & C THANK YOU Thank you to those parents who attended the P&C AGM last night. The P&C has worked tirelessly to contribute positively to our school. Over the past 12 months the P&C has held two very successful school discos, Mother s and Father s Day stalls, bulb and preschool plate fundraisers and fete. The P&C also continues to provide a 5 day a week canteen service for our students. I would like to thank the outgoing P&C executive of Adam Smith, Linda Vincent, Polly McGuire and Amy Burr for their efforts in supporting Ngunnawal Primary. Their efforts have provided new equipment for the preschool, Magnet Mart gift vouchers that have contributed greatly to our school gardening projects and some wonderful new equipment in West Park area for our students. An official opening for this equipment will be held in the near future. I also congratulate the new P&C executive Lisa Younie (President), Mel Horrocks (Vice President), Sonya Wyman (Treasurer) and Emma Prime (Secretary). I look forward to working in partnership with the P&C during 2015 to continue and build upon the great work of Regards Kristine

3 Ngunnawal Primary School Swimming Carnival Competitors 19 February 2015 Ngunnawal Primary Swimming Carnival On Thursday 19 February, 45 Ngunnawal Primary students competed in our school swimming carnival at the AIS. The students all did a fabulous job and everyone worked very hard. Teachers and AIS staff were impressed with student behaviour and the way they cheered on their peers. Students deserve a big pat on the back. We were very lucky to have five Gungahlin College students to assist us with timekeeping on the day. Thank you. We would not have been able to run the carnival without help from our wonderful parents. A huge thank you to all the parents that came to support their child(ren) and helped with timekeeping, taking photos and cheering. Congratulations to all students involved for a wonderful day. Nicole, James and Kellie-Anne Best Listening Class at Assembly - 2ES Ngunnawal Primary School Swimming Carnival Thank you everyone involved for a great day!
