26 Dynmic DNS setting The hs Dynmic DNS client to be used when the Internet Service Provider (ISP) uses dynmic IP ddresses insted of fixed IP ddress. The supports our own free Remoterig dynmic DNS service nd DynDNS which is not free nymore. You cn choose to use one of them. The Dynmic DNS client checks wht IP ddress your router hs got from the ISP nd sends the informtion to the Dynmic DNS:s service DNS server. When using Dynmic DNS you enter "Own host nme" insted of n IP ddress in the web browser nd you don't need to bother if the IP ddress t the Remote site chnges. The only importnt informtion is the Own host nme, copy the whole row, this is the informtion you should put into your web browsers ddress field when you contct the unit in the future. Store it s Bookmrk s it is difficult to remember. No more registrtion is needed. Remember tht DNS ddress like this is only for use when you connect over the internet, s long s you re operting on you own LAN use the IP ddress. B-RC1216H-A12 - Copy.docx User mnul Rev. A Mrch of 91

29 DynDNS dynmic DNSservice The RC1216H lso supports the commercil dynmic DNS service DynDns. If your router hs DynDNS client you cn lso use tht one, nd do not ctivte more thn one DynDNS client t the sme LAN segment. DynDNS do not ccept multiple updtes from sme IP. The DynDNS client checks wht IP ddress your router hs got from the ISP nd sends the informtion to DynDNS:s DNS server. When using DynDNS you enter "Own host nme" insted of n IP ddress in we browsers ddress field nd you don't need to bother if the IP ddress t the remote QTH chnges. Restrt device Restrt device cn be used if you wnt to reset nd restrt the without sving ny chnges (before pply chnges) or just for ordinry reset. Networks nd Firewlls One of the mjor obstcles when trying to remotely control something is the fct tht the Internet Service Provider (ISP) forces us to use dynmic IP ddresses. We cn never know, from time to time, which IP ddress our modem / firewll / router hs on its outside interfce (the IP ddress you will try to connect to). Most people use NAT routers tht trnsltes IP ddresses on the inside (your little LAN) to one common IP ddress on the outside using port conversion. At the remote end the router must be configured so tht port 80 (defult settings) is directed to the RC-1216 which should hve sttic IP ddress. If you hve other remote controlled equipment connected to the router port 80 is probbly lredy in use nd you need to chnge the webserver port from 80 to something else. In the exmple below where we hve setup the Linksys router we hve used port You will lso need to register the to DynDNS ( so you cn use host nme to connect to it regrdless of its dynmic IP ddress (which cn chnge without notice, but rrely does).
