3 REACH FOR THE STARS DIFFA: DESIGN INDUSTRIES FOUNDATION FIGHTING AIDS is one of the largest funders of HIV/AIDS service and education programs in the U.S. Since its founding in 1984, DIFFA has mobilized the immense resources of the design communities to provide over $40 million to hundreds of AIDS organizations nationwide. Starting with volunteers from fashion, interior design, furnishings, contractors and architecture, supporters of DIFFA now come from a wide variety of industries. With 15 chapters nationwide, DIFFA has also been an innovative agent in drawing local and national corporations into the fight against the epidemic, and enjoys tremendous support from the design community. DIFFA/ IS A GRANT GIVING ORGANIZATION that provides Excellence in Care Grants to Chicago-area service providers. A team consisting of a professional in that field and a DIFFA/ board member review each agency applying for funding. Review of proposals is followed by site visits and interviews with the organizations staff. We fund in the categories of advocacy and education, health and clinical services, meals and nutrition, housing, and support and counseling. The agencies shown to provide the best care receive an unrestricted grant. DIFFA GRANTS FUNDS TO ORGANIZATIONS WHICH FIGHT AIDS BY PROVIDING: Preventive education programs targeted to populations at risk of infection Treatment and direct-care service for people living with AIDS Public policy initiatives which add resources to private sector efforts Drawing on the contributions of world-renowned creative and corporate leaders, DIFFA s fundraising activities are among the most celebrated in AIDS philanthropy. Through special events and passive royalty arrangements, DIFFA raises money for the battle against AIDS like no other organization can. This unique position has enabled DIFFA to cement its reputation for innovation by rallying diverse communities to a common purpose. This year, we are proud to announce the DIFFA/Chicago Northwestern Memorial Fellowship Presented by BMO HARRIS BANK. DIFFA/ is an Illinois 501(c)(3) and was formed by members across all areas of the design disciplines and associated design industries. As the need for funding continues to grow, the membership of DIFFA/ expands to include more areas of the community both design and non-design related. Through broadening the pool of membership, we have been able to secure greater amounts of corporate sponsorship, as well as providing an opportunity for individual donors to contribute their time, creativity and energy. THE DIFFA/ CHAPTER DISTRIBUTES FUNDS to Chicago area AIDS service agencies who assist men, women and children affected by AIDS and HIV-related illnesses. Since 1987, DIFFA/ has awarded over $4 million in grants. In Chicago, our funding has focused on those agencies that demonstrate extraordinary effectiveness in achieving their chosen missions in the HIV/AIDS arena. 5 OUR 2014 GRANTEES DIFFA/ S GRANT MAKING TRADITION has been able to support emerging programs and ideas that reflect a unique or innovative approach to a problem. We continue to seek requests where public support and other philanthropy (including an organization s own fundraising capacity) is not otherwise available, and where DIFFA/ funds can be appropriately positioned to expand and diversify the funding efforts of an organization. 6 A CALL TO ACTION DIFFA/ S FUNDRAISING PROCESS INCLUDES A SERIES OF EVENTS throughout the calendar year driven by dedicated professionals inside and outside the design industries. The primary fundraising event of DIFFA/ is the annual black tie gala created to generate maximum funding potential for the DIFFA/ Excellence in Care grant program. THE IMAGINE BALL WILL BE HELD ON JUNE 13, 2015 AT. In order to reach the goals established for The Imagine Ball, DIFFA/ requires committed organizations to generously provide their support through table sponsorships, cash donations and in-kind donations. It is only through successful fundraising events that the giving potential for the Excellence in Care Awards is achieved and the DIFFA/Chicago endowment campaign is funded. Beginning in 2005, DIFFA/ has used moneys raised to create the basis for an ongoing endowment campaign. The Endowment Campaign is working to rally $1,000,000 by 2020 through portions of event proceeds and direct funding to the endowment. DIFFA/ is seeding the effort with an annual contribution goal of $100,000 toward this endowment fund. The Endowment Campaign is geared to ensure higher levels of granting and a platform that will guarantee a long life for our organization and the Excellence in Care Awards given every year. This fund needs daring and serious philanthropists to join with us in creating the endowment fund.
