3 Header Introduction, Text Faculty & Planning Committee With the ever growing prevalence of diabetes, often at an early age, the care of our patients must be ever more aggressive. During this program, we will discuss the current treatment targets for patients, in and out of the hospital, and a number of strategies to help achieve treatment goals. Medical management of diabetes, along with new therapies and products, early detection and treatment of complications, and the patient s psychological well-being will be discussed. Cases will be used to illustrate these concepts. Aggressive diabetes treatment means better outcomes for our patients. 4 Objectives & Information b l m OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of this program, the participant will be able to: Discuss tools and strategies used to support children and adults who have diabetes in achieving their treatment targets. Illustrate the appropriate use of unique new medications. Characterize the prevention and treatment of acute and chronic complications of diabetes. Articulate the important aspects of motivational interviewing. Discuss how depression and other mental health diagnoses disrupt diabetes management and identify quick and easy screening tools. Elaborate upon the new glycemic targets for hospitalized patients and the use of insulin to achieve those targets. Course Registration Fee: Early Bird Special - $300/per person until February 14, 2007; $350/per person - February 14 - March 1, The fee covers course materials, breaks, and lunch on Friday. It does not cover your room charges or other meals. The registration deadline is March 1. Please note that this course is limited to 60 people. Accreditation: MDs - The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center designates this educational activity for a maximum of 14.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. RNs - Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center s Nursing Continuing Education Council is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. This educational activity carries 14.5 contact hours. THE BALSAMS GRAND RESORT HOTEL The Balsams is a Historic Hotel of America, a unique and wonderful resort experience. A block of rooms is being held for conference participants until February 14, After that rooms may be reserved on a space available basis. All rates are packaged to include overnight accommodations at the Hotel, traditional American breakfast, and full service dinner. Rate includes the use of all Hotel & Resort facilities without charge such as the Wilderness Ski Area lift tickets, cross-country ski trail passes, and all other activities and facilities as seasonably available (snow shoeing, mountain biking, hiking trails, nightly entertainment, movie theatre and other offerings under development.) Rates quoted will have an additional 15% service charge and 8% NH room & meals tax added on. The service charge is to cover the basic services of dining room and housekeeping personnel. The BALSAMS Grand Resort Hotel will be happy to extend these group rates for persons wishing to lengthen their stay before or after, either seven (7) days prior to the group arrival date and/or seven (7) day(s) after the group departure date, subject to availability. A deposit of one night s stay per person made payable to The Balsams and a completed reservation form are required on all reservations. The deposit will be credited only to the last night of your reservation. Please check with the hotel on deposit forfeitures, etc. For a deposit refund, a cancellation notice is required 7 days prior to scheduled arrival.
