2 QUALITY IMPROVING QUALITY AND SAFETY IN YOUR ENDOSCOPY UNIT FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2016 Course Description ASGE has developed this course to educate physician and non-physician unit staff on how to translate quality concepts into practice at their endoscopy unit. The content of the course is dynamic, addressing the fundamentals of quality and safe practice as well as emerging trends and evidence. In addition to advancing their knowledge in endoscopy unit quality and safety, participants in this course will be prepared to apply for the ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program or renew their current participation. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this educational activity, you will be able to: Identify ways to define and measure quality in endoscopy Describe techniques to make endoscopy more efficient while maintaining safety Describe methods to improve patient satisfaction in endoscopy, including improve doctor-patient communication Recognize the potential sources of infection from contact with various body fluids, their transmissibility during gastrointestinal endoscopy, and their susceptibility to potential disinfectants Specify measures for improving unit quality, including training and credentialing for new procedures, quality assurance programs, sedation and monitoring, and unit accreditation and re-accreditation Target Audience Practicing gastrointestinal endoscopists and surgeons, medical directors, nurse managers, unit managers and allied professionals interested in advancing their knowledge in endoscopy unit quality and safety. Units interested in applying for the ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program or renewing their ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Certificate are encouraged to send both a physician and a non-physician manager to the course. Program eligibility criteria require completion of this course by at least one unit representative within one year of the initial application to the program and prior to recognition expiration for renewal applications. 4 OPERATIONS GI PRACTICE MANAGEMENT 101 SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2016 Course Description This ASGE course provides office management staff with the essentials needed to effectively and efficiently manage a GI unit. Presented by GI practice managers at the top of their field, GI Practice Management 101 serves as an introduction to GI endoscopy practice management best practices. Course sessions will cover topics such as running a profitable endoscopy unit, achieving efficiency in your office operations and managing and staffing the GI practice. GI Practice Management 101 is designed to be highly interactive and provide winning practical solutions that can be implemented immediately in your practice. This course is perfect for those propelled into office management, or new to GI practice management. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to: Recognize cost centers and profit centers for the typical GI practice Integrate ASGE and other clinical guidelines in your practice Perform rudimentary evaluation of ancillary services such as infusion or histology/pathology Identify how to right size your office Develop an analysis (Proforma) to determine whether a specific cost center activity (pathology lab, infusion, capsule) is profitable Utilize mid-level staff to enhance the efficiency of the office or hospital-based GI practice Identify various staffing models within the office and endoscopy center, and select a model that best fits the practice culture and needs Understand how to properly adopt nationally recognized guidelines in your GI unit Target Audience This course is designed for practice administrators, nurse managers and physicians who are new to GI practice management, or work within a small to medium office. Nurses All nurse participants in the GI Practice Management 101 will receive a certificate of attendance specifying hours of education accredited for AMA PRA Course Category 1 Credit. This certificate can be used toward nursing requirements. For all nurse participants in the Quality and Safety course, this continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, Inc., an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation.
