2 Course Overview Sleep technologists have seen major changes in their profession with the recent advances in technology related to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. In this two-day course, we will prepare technologists for their expanding role in the care of sleep disorders patients. We will explore efficient models for effective sleep care management, review best practices across various care management sessions, discuss the theory behind sleep care management, and assist technologists with gaining knowledge of the principles and tools utilized in sleep management. TARGET AUDIENCE This course is relevant for sleep technologists and sleep center managers seeking to improve or develop skill sets in sleep care management. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: Discuss objectives for career development; Define ethics, professionalism and outcome measures; Discuss and review cost effective care in a changing healthcare model; Interview sleep disorders patients, identify in-patient vs. out-patient care environments, and develop a care plan; Provide sleep disease management; Develop a sleep care manager program and quality assurance program; Develop policies and job descriptions; and Provide appropriate staff training. 7 General Information COURSE LOCATION The course will all be held at: AAST National Office 2510 North Frontage Road Darien, Illinois (suburb of Chicago) HOTEL RESERVATIONS The AAST has reserved a block of guest rooms at a discounted group rate of $111.00/night plus taxes at: Marriott Chicago Southwest at Burr Ridge 1200 Burr Ridge Parkway Burr Ridge, Illinois Space is limited, so please make reservations well in advance; the group rate will no longer be available if all rooms in the block sell out. Reservations must be made by individual attendees directly with the hotel s reservation department by calling (630) ; to receive the special group rate, you must identify yourself as part of the group code listed below. Reservations may also be made online at Check-in time is 4:00pm and check-out time is 11:00am. Cut-off Date: August 22, 2014 Group Code: AAST SHUTTLE FROM HOTEL TO NATIONAL OFFICE Shuttle service will be provided to and from the hotel to the national office each day prior to and at the end of the course. Transportation to any other location or at any other time is the responsibility of the attendee. Details regarding the shuttle schedule will be sent to attendees via in advance of the course. PERSONAL VEHICLE: Attendees wishing to drive themselves each day may park in the AASM free lot in front of the building. Those arranging transportation with family and friends should make sure the driver knows the address, parking lot and start/end times of the course. 8 TRANSPORTATION FROM AIRPORT The airports nearest to the national office are O Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport. O Hare is approximately 23 miles from the office. Midway is approximately 18 miles from the office. The Marriott Burr Ridge offers a complimentary shuttle between Midway and the hotel. Contact the hotel at (630) for further information. Should you choose to take a taxi, we recommend that you do not pick-up a taxi outside of the baggage claim exit as these taxis will charge at a rate 1 ½ times the metered rate to take you to the hotel. Rather, after you pick-up your baggage at the airport, contact American Taxi via phone at (847) Taxi service to and from the airport is approximately $40.00 each way, not including gratuity. Please anticipate minutes for travel time to and from either airport. MEALS Meals provided by the AAST are available for registered attendees only. Guests of attendees will not be accommodated during meal functions. RECORDING The AAST strictly prohibits photographing and/or audio, video, or otherwise recording of the sessions and speakers at the course. ELECTRONIC COURSE MATERIALS The AAST will provide course materials only in electronic format. Attendees will be provided with a thumb drive containing course materials at the course. Prior to the course, attendees will be allowed to download and, if preferred, print course materials. Please Note: The AAST will not supply computers or tablets to view the materials or power for computers or tablets. For attendees wishing to view the course materials on their laptops or tablets, it is imperative that attendees have them sufficiently powered prior to arrival at the course each day. 9 CONTINUING EDUCATION The American Association of Sleep Technologists has approved the Sleep Care Manager course for continuing education credits (CECs); an application has been submitted to the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) for Continuing Respiratory Care Education (CRCE) contact hours for respiratory therapists. All participants requesting AAST CECs or AARC CRCE credits must return the credit claim form included with the registration materials to the AAST information desk upon completion of the course. An AAST representative will be available to address any questions or concerns during the course. Credit letters will be ed by the AAST approximately four to six weeks following the course. Questions? Please register early. Confirmation letters will be sent via within one week of receipt of registration form and payment. All attendees must pre-register; on-site registration will not be accepted. The AAST will not be held liable if an individual purchases an airline ticket before receiving confirmation of registration for a course. CANCELLATION POLICY Written notification must be submitted to the meeting department for registration cancellation. A $50.00 administrative fee will be withheld on cancellations postmarked prior to August 29, After this date, no refunds will be available. Refunds are not provided to no-shows. The AAST reserves the right to cancel this course and provide a full refund should conditions warrant. The refund will only include the cost of registration for the course.
