Each of the four breakout groups will be jointly facilitated by a Babson faculty member and an RLI faculty member. 4 Session Descriptions for the 2014 RLI Leadership Summit Session descriptions appear in their sequential order. Changing Landscape and Possible Futures: Strategic Adaptation as the Heartbeat of Imaging Caroline Daniels, MBA, PhD Lecturer in Entrepreneurship Babson Faculty Advisor, John E. and Alice L. Butler Venture Accelerator Program Alexander M. Norbash, MD, MHCM, FACR Chairman of Radiology and Assistant Dean for Diversity, Boston University Imaging 3.0 challenges radiologists to reach beyond comfortable boundaries and across the health care continuum. As health care becomes more integrated and patient-focused, how might radiology services unfold in the next few years? What do the changes in boundaries mean for all of the medical imaging stakeholders patients, clinicians, and health systems and radiologists in particular? The task will be not only what future direction to take, but also what important stepping-stones to focus on to get to this integrated future, and how to develop the essential skills and perspectives to capitalize on change. In this session, we will explore: How to gain perspective on the overall framework of future trends changing the landscape of radiology How to build effective practices refocused on patient-centered care in uncertain environments Big Data and Analytics Thomas H. Davenport, MA, PhD President s Distinguished Professor of Information Technology and Management, Babson College Paul J. Chang, MD, FSIIM Professor and Vice Chairman, Radiology Informatics Medical Director, Pathology Informatics and Enterprise Imaging, University of Chicago Medical Center Analytics and big data are beginning to transform both health care in general and radiology in particular. Adoption of electronic medical records has increased rapidly among providers, and data sources from various connected health devices are proliferating. However, there is still substantial fragmentation across health care organizations and data domains. Participants in this session will be prepared not only to oversee progress in radiology analytics, but to play leadership roles in broader and more integrated analytics and informatics initiatives within their organizations. In this session, participants will learn how: To think about the state of big data and analytics in health care A leading health care organization is addressing big data and analytics Analytics 3.0 an integrated approach to combining traditional health care analytics with big data might correspond to Imaging 3.0 Radiological data may become integrated with a broader approach to health care analytics in the future No one can be a successful leader regardless of natural aptitude without taking the necessary steps to develop and hone their leadership skills.

5 Social Media Paul Gillin Technology Journalist (specializing in New Media) Matthew Hawkins, MD Assistant Professor, Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences Emory University School of Medicine Radiologists have too often been silent or unheard during debates surrounding policy decisions. The task of educating patients, legislators and insurers about the benefits of Imaging 3.0 is best handled by radiology professionals. Social media presents unprecedented opportunities for radiology professionals to join the conversations these populations are having, shape the brand of our profession and potentially impact consumer behavior. This session provides a roadmap for building an online presence and social media authority. We focus on the best platforms for establishing an online presence and syndicating through social and professional networks. Attendees will learn: How to establish a distinctive online presence How to select the right social media and publishing platforms Best practices for engaging others and creating/sharing content Time management tips for maintaining an authoritative online presence despite a busy professional schedule Medical vs. Business Innovation Marla M. Capozzi, MBA Adjunct Lecturer of Strategy, Babson College Leader in McKinsey & Co. s Strategy and Global Innovation Practices Frank J. Lexa, MD, MBA Professor of Marketing, The Wharton School Vice Chairman and Professor of Radiology, Drexel University College of Medicine Radiologists are very adept and successful at medical innovations such as implementing new diagnostics and treatments. However, is this going to be enough to manage business transformations required under the Affordable Care Act? Knowing how to pursue new types of innovation in addition to these important product-driven outcomes will be essential for future success. Accomplishing these important outcomes, which span savings, profitability and how players in the industry operate, requires leveraging technologies in new ways, creating new business models and changing the structure of how we work. In this session you will learn: How to set innovation outcomes and frame an innovation challenge/opportunity How to apply proven techniques to generate profitable ideas through hands-on exercises An innovation process that you can apply repeatedly in your work

6 Session Descriptions for the 2014 RLI Leadership Summit Session descriptions appear in their sequential order. Business Models and Financial Logic Bill Lawler, MS, PhD Associate Professor of Management Accounting, Babson College Lawrence R. Muroff, MD, FACR Clinical Professor of Radiology, University of Florida and University of South Florida Colleges of Medicine CEO and President, Imaging Consultants, Inc. It is clear Imaging 3.0 challenges radiologists to reach beyond comfortable boundaries and the possible threat to their financial well-being as well as the viability of their independent practices as structured today. This session will focus on building an understanding of the financial drivers of your business models both in today s competitive environment and in what might evolve from challenges of the Affordable Care Act. In this session, we will explore: The economic logic of business models across the health care continuum as structured today How to forecast the changes to these models as health care providers respond to the challenges The possible impact of these changes on radiology specifically Solving the Right Problems: Identifying the Critical Problems Facing Radiology Practices and Using Business Principles to Fix Them Gaurab Bhardwaj, MBA, PhD Associate Professor of Strategy and Management, Babson College Louis J. Lavigne Jr. Family Endowed Term Chair in Strategy & Planning David C. Levin, MD, FACR Professor and Chairman Emeritus, Department of Radiology, Thomas Jefferson University This session will start with a discussion of the key problems facing radiologists in their practices. We will then present concepts and frameworks illustrated by examples from a variety of companies and industries for identifying the right problems to solve, structuring and framing them correctly, tackling them in effective ways, and being aware of common pitfalls. We will practice applying the frameworks to the work of radiologists. This concluding session is also an occasion to pull together ideas from preceding sessions. In this evolving health care system, the radiologists who will survive and thrive will be those who obtain the tools needed to be outstanding leaders. Accreditation Statement The American College of Radiology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
