1 Geriatric Emergency Department Guidelines New Jersey Hospital Association, Princeton, NJ Sept. 29, 2014 Registration and Breakfast: 7:15 a.m. 7:45 a.m. Program Time: 7:45 a.m. 4:15 p.m. Location: NJHA Conference & Event Center 760 Alexander Road, Princeton, NJ Fee: $295 per person At this conference, the Geriatric Emergency Department Guidelines will provide a standardized set of guidelines that can effectively improve the care of the geriatric population and can be implemented in the (ED). These guidelines create a template for staffing, equipment, education, policies and procedures, follow-up care and performance improvement measures. Objectives: 1. Describe why there is a need for a Geriatric Emergency Department (GED). 2. List 3 screening tools specific to the geriatric population. 3. Describe and identify the minimal standard (10 Facets) of a GED. 4. Discuss information about resources needed. 5. Explore the concept of disruptive innovation within context of GED. 6. Discuss the implications of the GED guidelines. 7. Discuss the concepts of Age Wise. 8. Identify the need for specialized geriatric initiatives care in the acute inpatient setting Target Audience: Emergency Physicians, geriatricians, APNs, nurses, pharmacist, Pharm Ds, social workers, case managers and long term care facilities healthcare providers and quality directors. Continuing Education Credits: HRET is accredited by the Medical Society of New Jersey to provide continuing medical education for physicians. HRET designates this live activity for 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. HRET-NJHA is an approved provider of continuing education by the New Jersey State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s COA. P#131-5/11-14.
