2 Entrepreneurial Leadership in Organizations Identify, create, lead, and manage frequently overlooked opportunities to create value in competitive organizational environments. Overview: Audience: Delivery: ELO focuses on the entrepreneurial skills of opportunity recognition, innovation, resource alignment, risk analysis, new venture development, and change management. The program also addresses functional areas of management including: strategy, marketing, capital development, and financial analysis. Topics are presented against a strong backdrop of effective management leadership for high performance organizations. ELO is for high potential employees positioned for advancement. Ideal participants oversee or benefit from creating new business value for organizations - team or group leaders, project coordinators, and area managers. Executives interested in developing strong entrepreneurial leadership skills are welcome candidates. An intensive, accelerated learning experience is created by using a combination of: hands-on venture management simulations, team-oriented exercises, intensive participant interactions, illustrative case studies, prominent guest lecturers, and relevant publications and research reports ELO facilitators are academically qualified practitioners with many years of experience as corporate leaders and entrepreneurs. The program consists of eight full-day sessions meeting every other week on alternating Fridays and Saturdays. To ensure an intimate, highly interactive, and productive learning environment, sessions are limited to twenty-five participants. Custom versions of the ELO experience can be arranged for private offering. Outcomes: Participants will develop the capacity to: understand the process of innovation and the role of entrepreneurs in organizations, craft a holistic understanding of an organization, assure the innovation process is aligned with the senior managementʼs priorities, communicate vision, direction, and passion, develop an appreciation of managementʼs impact on innovation and performance, manage basic business functions, lead multi-unit, team-oriented decision making processes, analyze financial information, assess risk, balance competing priorities, and maintain innovation-friendly work environments. 3 Entrepreneurial Leadership in Organizations Curriculum Outline The Entrepreneurial Leadership in Organizations (ELO) course is focused on the innovation segment of the product and services life cycle. Specifically, the course is designed to enhance a participants understanding of, aptitude for, and skills in successfully managing innovation within the structured cultures of large organizations. The following graphic illustrates this point by highlighting the start-up, proof of concept, and initial product development aspects of innovation. performance management maturity exit strategy growth product development innovation product development start-up proof of concept marketing time The ELO topics of interest are presented through a variety of activities and formats including lectures, cases studies, business simulation exercises, readings, participant interactions and presentation forums, and team development activities. 5 JON W. HOPE, PH.D. As a lecturer, management consultant and Professor of Management, Dr. Jon W. Hope has been associated with numerous enterprises. Over the past twenty years he has assisted a number of firms in the development of their senior executive groups as these executives confront the strategic management and organizational issues within their firms. His principle areas of management consulting have been organizational behavior and development, strategic management and the creation of management and executive development programs. The firms for which Dr. Hope has consulted include health care providers, health care insurance companies, oil distribution companies, pharmaceutical, telecommunications, manufacturing firms, and several federal agencies. In addition to this work, Dr. Hope has also served as an Associate Professor of Management at Rockhurst College, where he instructed in the Rockhurst Executive Fellows Program, served as Director of the Rockhurst Executive Semester Program, and taught several management courses at the MBA and undergraduate levels. He has also held the United Telecommunications Faculty Fellowship at Rockhurst. He has also taught strategic management at the Bloch School of Management at UMKC. Since 1998, Dr. Hope has been a partner and Director of Programs for LeaderPoint, LLC. LeaderPoint is an open enrollment company offering courses in executive and leadership development. With an undergraduate, MBA, and Ph.D. in Management from the University of Kansas, Dr. Hope presents a unique set of practical business credential to his clients. He is the author of numerous technical monographs and program books for a variety of management and executive development programs. Dr. Hope served 10 years in the United States Air Force and flew 198 missions in Vietnam. He is married to the former Patricia Dame, has four children and seven grandchildren. The Archos Group LLC
6 J. GREGG WHITTAKER, PH.D. Gregg Whittaker is the Chairman of the Department of Business Administration, Economics and Computer Studies at William Jewell College. Prior to joining the Jewell faculty in 1999, Prof. Whittaker worked on Wall Street for twelve years, the last five of which as a Managing Director and the Global Head of Credit Derivatives for Chase Securities, Inc. (now J.P.Morgan Chase). In 1994, Prof. Whittaker joined Chase with responsibility for strategic planning and implementation of Chase s start-up Credit Derivatives Group, including new product design, development, and marketing. During his tenure, Prof. Whittaker pioneered innovations in synthetic asset securitization and off-balance sheet funding. His team was rated by clients and peers as the top Credit Derivatives Group in the world for two years running in 1997 and Prof. Whittaker has been a speaker and has served as chairman at numerous conferences on credit derivatives, credit risk management, and regulatory developments. Prof. Whittaker was a co-founder and former Vice Chairman of Primus Guaranty, Ltd., a first of its kind financial services company. Prof. Whittaker and his partners worked for over two years developing the innovative technology and, in March of 2002, raised $155 million in equity funding to launch the effort. Primus is currently a premier, publiclytraded AAA-rated credit protection seller with offices in New York and Bermuda. As Managing Member of The Whittaker Group LLC, Prof. Whittaker heads an organization that assists and consults with businesses in a number of areas, including risk management, business start-ups, capital raising and product development. Current engagements include assisting in the development and start up of an innovative new insurance company and selling the patent rights to a new patented soil and water conservation technology that the USDA states may be the most significant advancement in agricultural technology of the last fifty years. Prof. Whittaker grew up in Holyoke, Colorado. He played varsity baseball at Colorado State University and received his B.S. in economics from that institution in He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin Madison in His Ph.D. dissertation was the first treatise of its kind to combine options pricing theory with the valuation of financial swaps. Prof. Whittaker is on the board of directors of Pony Express Bank and the Liberty Hospital Foundation, and is a director of Ascend Insurance Co. He is married with children ages 8, 11, and 13, and currently makes his home in Liberty, Missouri. The Archos Group LLC
7 GERALD (GERRY) B. WILLIAMS, PH.D. Dr. Williams has extensive consulting experience in strategic planning, business process improvement, and leadership development. He is also very active with corporate and academic research in the areas of information technology, innovation, knowledge management, and entrepreneurship. Gerry holds a B.A. in mathematics from William Jewell College, an M.S. in statistics and an M.B.A. from Miami University, and the M.S. and Ph.D. in computer science from Northwestern University. He has done additional study at Harvard University and the University of Cincinnati. He served as a research scientist and Director of Technology Transfer at Andersen Consulting s Center for Strategic Technology Research (now Accenture Technology Labs) in Chicago. In academia, he has served as the A. Major and Dorothy Hull Professor of Business and Department Chair at William Jewell College and as Professor of Information Systems and Knowledge Management in the Helzberg School of Management. As a consultant, Dr. Williams has worked with a wide range of organizations in developing and implementing information and communication technology-based employee management systems to improve workforce performance. He has also started, grown, and continues to be active in the management of several companies based on applied technology innovations. The Archos Group LLC
