Analytics includes the extensive use of data, statistical and quantitative analysis, and predictive models to drive decisions. Applications of analytics to sport are used to gain insights team and player evaluation and compensation, human resource optimization, game management, and financial strategies. Capitalizing on the strength of the Fox School of Business Management Information Systems (MIS) department, the Sport Analytics concentration creates unique inter-disciplinary synergies that will produce a new generation of sport specialists. 10 MTHM Hospitality Operations Concentration AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH The hospitality industry is diverse, creating endless career possibilities beyond the traditional sectors of lodging and restaurant operations. With a shared focus on providing service excellence, hospitality related businesses extend from small independent operations to global enterprises multi-site operations that transcend geographical boundaries. The Hospitality Operations concentration is designed to introduce students to contemporary sectors of the hospitality industry so that they may pursue a career in this industry by enhancing their operational skill set to be a more effective hospitality operations manager. Students in this concentration have minimal experience in the tourism and hospitality industry, having completed a degree in an unrelated field with limited or no industry related work experience. Students are encouraged to choose electives and an internship or project that focus on the development of these skills so that they are fully prepared to seamlessly adjust to working full-time for a hospitality organization in an operationally related position immediately upon graduation. 16 PhD in Business Administration with Concentration in Tourism/Sport AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH Fox/STHM offers a PhD in Business Administration with a concentration in Tourism/Sport. This program builds on the strength of two schools, the Fox School of Business and the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, which is home to the tourism and hospitality management and sport and recreation management faculty. Students take the core PhD in Business Administration curriculum from the Fox School of Business while working on their concentration area with the faculty in the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. DYNAMIC OPPORTUNITIES FOR ASSISTANTSHIPS In addition to world-class faculty, dedicated seminar-based coursework, and a state-ofthe-art facility, the Temple program offers doctoral students very competitive research assistantship funding as well as the chance to work in the National Laboratory for Tourism & ecommerce (NLTeC) and the Sport Industry Research Center (SIRC), which have projects focusing on a wide range of topics in tourism, hospitality, sport, and leisure industries. Teaching assistantships are required for PhD students. TAs lead course preparation and delivery with faculty supervision. Coursework is available on the Fox web site: RESEARCH/MENTORSHIP PhD students will have identified and begin working with a faculty mentor upon admission to the program. The mentor relationship will be in the form of an apprenticeship resulting in greater potential for high-quality joint research. Faculty members taking on the responsibility of mentoring students are expected to ensure desirable outcomes measurable by student papers targeted to top conference and A level journals, as well as placements in top research universities upon graduation.
