For more information on our client please visit: The Role The Manager, Payroll is primarily responsible for ensuring that timely, accurate, compliant and professional payroll services are provided to Enbridge and its employees globally. As a member of the Employee Services (People Operations) leadership team, the position works closely with peers leading the HR Service Center, Pension & Benefits Administration as well as Data Integrity to ensure the team is providing the organization and its employees with efficient business processes, a high degree of statutory and regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service. Reporting to the Director, People Operations, the Manager, Payroll is a highly independent, senior internal subject matter expert. The role has three direct reports which include the Canadian and American Payroll Leads as well as the Payroll Specialist. The Manager will work closely with the People Operations Employee Services leadership team as well as HR EBS ( Enterprise Business Solutions), Information Technology, Total Rewards and HR Business Partners. Frequent contacts will also include primary external stakeholders (CRA, IRS, 3 rd party vendors) as well as consulting with legal and other external subject matter experts. The scope of the Manager, Payroll role is: Enterprise-wide impact: employees and $2 Billion annual payroll; Regulatory and compliance impacts for Enbridge (reputation, fines/penalties and stakeholder relations); Collective bargaining agreements impacting relations with unions and represented employees; and, Corporate-wide financial reporting (GL integration, salary/wage expens e distribution, inter-company financial reporting). 3 Specific Responsibilities: Ensure enterprise payroll services are compliant with all statutory and regulatory requirements, with particular emphasis on Canadian and American jurisdictions; Oversee all facets of day-to-day payroll operations, with a particular focus on biweekly and off-cycle payroll runs as well as year-end processes, ensuring strict compliance with all governing legislation, collective agreements, policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of practice; Provide effective leadership to a dynamic group of payroll and financial professionals (12 individuals located in Edmonton and Houston), fostering a strong coaching/mentoring environment, personal and professional development as well as effective career development; Establish short and long-term objectives for the payroll team which focus on process simplification and standardization, continuous improvement and compliance; Work closely with peers and colleagues in the HR Service Center, Benefits Administration, Pension Administration, Data Integrity, Tax, IT, HR EBS, Relocations, Total Rewards and HR Business Partners to ensure business processes are simple and intuitive for employees, highly compliant and focused on exceptional customer experience and service; Support the Manager, HR Service Center, in establishing customer service standards and objectives for the People Operations team; Ensure payroll team members meet established customer service standards and expectations; Serve as the payroll subject matter expert on HR and business project teams involving, for example, system implementations, mergers/acquisitions, divestitures and significant business process changes; Research, develop and maintain enterprise-wide payroll-related policies, practices and processes (i.e. cross-border travel and tax guidelines); Determine payroll-related outsourcing strategy, overseeing 3 rd party payroll vendors and ensuring service level agreement obligations are achieved; Ensure the accurate and compliant configuration of payroll-related HR systems and provide indirect leadership to a Payroll Configuration Specialist; and, Represent Enbridge at various management and/or business meetings and/or professional associations. 4 Location Edmonton Qualifications Given the role this individual will play in the Company s future growth and success, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following education, experience, and personal characteristics: Education: Undergraduate degree in business or a related field; and, Relevant professional designation (CMA/CGA/CPA; CPM pay roll designation, CHRP). Experience: 10+ years progressive experience in payroll or finance required; Relevant experience in a large, complex (multiple business unit, country, collective agreement, etc.) organization; Exceptional financial acumen is essential (knowledge of accounting and finance concepts and principles strong analytical skills; advanced MS Excel skills; reconciliation and account balancing skills); Knowledge of PeopleSoft North American Payroll and Workday Payroll (implementation experience) preferred; Expertise and knowledge of Canadian and US payroll requirements including regulatory and compliance requirements in multiple jurisdictions as well as international assignments (expatriates and inpatriates); Excellent leadership (ability to supervise, mentor, coach, discipline and train employees) and team skills (collaboration, influence, partnership, communication) with direct and indirect reports; and, Strong process optimization and re-engineering experience as well as controls and reporting skills.
