1 Histry Ali Riza Kinay, funder f Kinay Grup was brn in Cyprus in Until 1926, Mr. Kinay wrked as a clerk at Necati, Riza & C. in Cyprus, Limassl, his family s business where he first develped a taste fr entrepreneurship. Hwever, as a yung man, he decided t immigrate t Turkey where he saw bigger pprtunities. His first jb was a psitin at Inian Bank Ltd. After this bank had ceased its peratins, he had applied t varius banks fr a new jb and meanwhile, wrked part time at a Ntaries ffice. During this time, he started learning French by just reading and wrking n his wn. Als, ccasinally, he was attending the classes at the Law Schl and visiting scial rganizatins like YMCA and American Bible Huse. His banking carrier tk a psitive turn when a psitin pened at the Ottman Bank which at the time was the largest gvernment wned bank in Turkey. The bank had wide peratins thrughut Turkey while ther banks were rather small and lcally perated. After ging thrugh tugh interviews and written tests, his freign language knwledge and previus business experience paid ff and he was accepted in 1929 t the Ottman Bank scring the highest scre amng applicants. His carrier at the bank wuld cntinue until Mr. Kinay was very successful at his new jb becming chief accuntant within ne year and a half, assistant manager tw years later and then prmted t the psitin f manager. He had wrked in varius branch ffices f Ottman Bank in varius cities f Turkey, always as a high ranking fficer. In 1938, he was assigned t Bandirma Branch where he stayed fr eight years. Then he was nminated t the managerial pst f Antalya Branch. Hwever, due t his wife s illness, he did nt want t change the city he lived in and rejected this assignment. The bank was insistent fr this, and upn this he decided t resign. After his resignatin, he saw the pprtunity t establish a first class ship agency business prviding services fr vessels calling Bandirma, a nn-existing service at the time necessitating cmpanies based in Istanbul t send their wn persnnel, a cstly and inefficient peratin. He thught this shuld nt be the right way t d this business and in 1946, decided t set up his wn cmpany, namely A. Riza Kinay Shipping Agencies and Trading Inc. Simultaneusly, he had btained the agency rights f Brax cmpany which was extensively shipping brate carges ut f Bandirma. By perfrming his duty as an agent with the highest quality f service, he had eliminated the necessity fr Brax t send staff frm abrad t supervise the ship ladings and by this way, enabled them t have extensive savings. Starting this cre business, his success had led t grwing and diversifying the business t its frm tday, with numerus cmpanies active in Ship Agency, Chartering, Ship Owning and Operating, Ship Management, Freight Frwarding and Lgistics as well as Internatinal Trade and Representatin. Tday, with the participatin f his sn, grandsn, and ther partners, Kinay Grup emplys in excess f 150 emplyees wrking at its headquarters in Istanbul and seven branch ffices lcated in majr Turkish prts. Mr. Ali Riza Kinay passed away in 2002 at the age f 95 and his name tday is synnymus with quality, reliability and best reputatin in Turkish shipping.
