Wireless Light-Level Mnitring ILT1000 The affrdability, accessibility, and ease f use f wireless technlgy cmbined with the All New ILT1000 enables remte mnitring and measuring fr mst light measurement applicatins. The light meter, mnitr & datalgger can be used anywhere a wired r wireless netwrk can reach. The ILT1000 takes advantage f readily available, cst effective, wireless devices and prvides ISO17025 & NIST -traceable UV, VIS & IR light measurements. Wireless cnfiguratins prvide users with the necessary flexibility and prtability required fr measurements in lcatins where cables are impractical. The ILT1000 uses a standards-based USB interface fr pwer and cmmunicatin and wrks with mst new and r existing wireless netwrks. This applicatin nte will describe specific cmpnents that were tested at Internatinal Light Technlgies (ILT) fr single- and multi-pint light mnitring. While the paper is fcused n wireless mnitring, the same principles apply t wired-ethernet mnitring. Disclaimer: The applicatin nte belw describes ILT s experience integrating 3 rd -party devices with its ILT1000. ILT has n affiliatin with these cmpanies, and des nt prvide any warranty, guarantee fr fit and functin, r supprt f the prducts belw. Wireless Cnfiguratins Tw cnfiguratins develped and tested t achieve wireless light-mnitring are described in the table and figures belw. Cnfiguratin Wireless Path Key Benefits Wireless-t-USB Bridge Mnitring server, wirelessly talking t existing netwrk, wirelessly talking t USB bridge, wired t ILT1000 s - Simple integratin int existing wireless netwrk. - 4 USB Prts n the Wireless-t-USB device eliminates the need fr a Wired-t-USB Bridge Mnitring cmputer, wirelessly talking t new r existing netwrk, cnnected via wired-ethernet cable t USB bridge, wired t ILT1000 s. Wireless Light-Level Mnitring ILT1000 text fr item (1) f Step 2, hwever, indicates cnnectin between the HMPS2U and an available LAN Prt n yur netwrk ruter. When fllwing the text, and nt the picture, the installatin prceeds as dcumented and is fairly simple. Of curse, access t yur netwrk ruter is a requirement. Other ntables during installatin: 1. The installatin calls fr a wired Ethernet cnnectin fr the initial cnfiguratin, but an Ethernet cable is nt prvided in the package. 2. A rebt is required after installatin. 3. The tested cnfiguratin included Sftware Versin 2.23 and Driver Versin 1.71.25. Bth f these were fund via the Hawking Cntrl Center (HCC) Abut menu. After fllwing the installatin steps, including cnnecting f USB devices (three ILT1000 s in this example), the HCC sftware autmatically discvers the ILT1000 s and presents the screen belw in Figure 3. 5

The ILT1000 s shw up based n their interface, which utilizes the Texas Instruments XDS100 prtcl. While HCC discvers the devices autmatically, it des nt autmatically cnnect t them. Nte that HCC als displays printer icns as ppsed t smething mre generic fr the ILT1000 s. T cnnect t an ILT1000, the particular device is selected as shwn belw. This enables the Cnnect icn. It als enables the Netwrk Scanner buttn, but this cntrl serves n purpse fr the ILT1000. Figure 4. Device selected and Cnnect icn activated. After selecting the Cnnect icn, HCC shws the device as cnnected. 7

Wireless Light-Level Mnitring ILT1000 Errr Handling Cnditin Wireless access pint ges ut f range Mnitring statin/cmputer returns frm pwer dwn mde. Rebt f the mnitring statin/cmputer. Summary: Result When the mnitring cmputer was mved ut f the wireless netwrk range, while actively accessing the ILT1000 devices, the HMPS2U required pwer-cycling t prperly re-identify the ILT1000 devices. This mnitring cmputer did nt experience any errrs r rebt requirements, but HCC needed t be run after pwer cycling the HMPS2U t recnnect the devices. Under nrmal cnditins, based n accessing the HMPS2U via the existing wireless netwrk, this cnditin shuld nt ccur nrmally. Nnetheless it is recmmended that system design ensures wireless netwrk range is maintained. HCC finds the devices, but requires manual Cnnect actin n each device befre cnnectin can be reestablished. HCC finds the devices, but requires manual Cnnect actin n each device befre cnnectin can be reestablished. - Prs - Cns Wrks as advertised, prviding rbust wireless-t-usb bridging and supprting the ILT1000. Simple installatin and setup, after making initial cnnectin t the ruter and nt a laptp as depicted in the instructins. Fairly gd speed (multiple readings per secnd when interfacing t 3 ILT1000 s) thrugh the wireless interface. Devices, ther than printers, cannt be aut-cnnected upn rebt r return frm lw-pwer mdes. Wired-t-USB Bridge Cnfiguratin Fr all cnfiguratins belw, testing was perfrmed n a Windws 8.1 system. The Wired-t-USB Bridge cnfiguratin testing was perfrmed as illustrated in Figure 2 abve and reiterated belw in Figure 10 (shwing the TP-LINK TL-WR702N as the wireless ruter). In this cnfiguratin, the mnitring cmputer is talking t a new r existing wireless netwrk, which has a wired cnnectin t a USB bridge. 12

Wireless Light-Level Mnitring ILT1000 Wireless Range Testing wireless range is very dependent n the envirnment. In a typical ffice and light manufacturing envirnment this slutin shwed a range in excess f 100 feet / 30 meters. Errr Handling Three types f errr handling scenaris were tested fr each f the wireless cnfiguratins. The TL-WR702N results are as fllws: Errr Handling Cnditin Wireless access pint ges ut f range Mnitring statin/cmputer returns frm pwer dwn mde. Rebt f the mnitring statin/cmputer. Summary: Result During this testing, a system restart was frced (Windws 8 equivalent f a BSOD) upn leaving the wireless range while accessing the NUS device. This is likely a driver issue related t use n Windws 8. Past testing has demnstrated the behavir n Windws XP, but nt n Windws 7. This is likely an issue related t the cmbinatin f system, OSversin, and driver. If the wireless range is lst and re-gained while the NUS device is nt being accessed, the restart des nt ccur. The wrkarund is t ensure that wireless cnnectivity is maintained while accessing the NUS device.
