LWA) per annum. We will normally appoint at the bottom of the salary scale unless the successful candidate has relevant experience relating to the selection criteria over and above what is required. 4 per week Head of Section: Music Technology and Curriculum Area Manager No line management responsibility Music Job Purpose To provide comprehensive technical support service for the Music Technology Suite and Recording Studio. The Post The successful candidate must have the necessary background maintaining a multi-user imac computer suite, including installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of music production software. The candidate must have experience maintaining a professional recording studio including Pro Tools HD systems and C24 control surfaces. Main Responsibilities 1. Maintain the Music Technology and Digital Design facilities within the College, ensuring that these facilities are working efficiently and are fit for purpose.
2. Organise as required the swift servicing and repair of equipment, its return and collection. 3. Draft and complete proposed orders for new equipment and materials. 4. Collect and check goods received on arrival for quality and specification, and match delivery notes and invoices with original orders, and allocate appropriate storage. 5. Set up and keep an assets register of all equipment, materials, software and review annually. 6. Maintain a communications daybook system to update users, including tutors, of the studio on equipment, repairs, supplier s information etc. 7. Liaise with Heads of Section (Music and Digital Design) in meeting equipment/software requirements for the Section and any reorganising of equipment etc that may be necessary from time to time. 8. Liaise and communicate with a wide variety of suppliers and other related external agencies to support the purchasing of equipment, software, technical repair & maintenance. General 9. To attend relevant training and meetings as required. 10. To be committed to Continuous Professional Development (CPD), keeping up-to-date and meeting any annual requirement for CPD required of you professionally. 11. To contribute to the effective management and promotion of equality and diversity. 12. Working Relationships & Contacts The postholder will, for the most part, work independently, with the support of the CAM and relevant Heads of Section. On occasion the postholder will need to make contact with the Lecturers, Premises Manager, IT Manager and attend curriculum meetings in cooperation with other music technology tutors.
Person Specification: Technician: Music Technology 1. A good degree in Music Technology providing it covered the technical rigour required of being a technician and/ or electrical engineering or computing/digital design NVQ, HND or equivalent, or higher qualification 2. Proven experience of working as a music technology technician 3. Experience of working within an academic institution (or similar) as a technician 4. Experience of working and maintaining Apple computers and network 5. Experience on working and/or maintaining a Pro Tools HD system, as well as using Apple Logic and other recording studio software 6. Ability to use and configure Mac computers operating Logic Express, Logic Pro, Pro Tools HD, Ableton, Cubase and Sibelius 7. Ability to fault-find, identifying correctly the erroneous or faulty areas of operation Essential 8. Ability to handle the return of faulty equipment Desirable 9. Good administrative skills including the ability to draft and complete order forms and audit, log and maintain a large variety of music technology equipment 10. Excellent organisational and record keeping skills including the ability to work to short deadlines and prioritise own workload 11. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently as well as contribute to the work of a team 12. Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing 13. Experience of contacting and dealing with suppliers, manufacturers and individuals within the sector 16. Knowledge of studio acoustics 17. Knowledge of soldering cables and circuitry 18. Knowledge of a variety of music genres 19. Ability to fix erroneous or faulty areas of operation, studio equipment using soldering techniques 20. Ability to create spreadsheets and keep accounts
Main Conditions of Service 1. You will be employed by Morley College Limited. 2. The Technician: Music Technology will be appointed to APT&C spine points 19 to 24 currently rising from 2,418 to 2,762 including London Weighting Allowance per annum. Applicants are normally appointed at the bottom of the scale. 3. Normal working hours are 4 per week, Monday to Friday which may include some evening work. The successful applicant will be required to work at weekends to accommodate specific College activities. No payment for overtime is made, but appropriate time-off in lieu will be granted. 4. The annual leave entitlement is 3 days per annum, excluding public holidays and 4 additional closure days. Leave must be taken out of term-time, except by arrangement. 5. The post is superannuable under the Local Government Superannuation Scheme, administered by the London Pensions Fund Authority. Other arrangements made under relevant legislation will be accepted. 6. There is a 6-month probationary period. 7. The College does not recognise service with any previous employer for calculating continuous service for the purposes of the Employment Rights Act 1996. Any previous continuous local government service however, may be counted as part of continuous employment with the Company for redundancy pay purposes. 8.
