Recognition of Prior Learning Certificate IV in Training & Assessment Student Name: Date Completed: January 2012
Application for Recognition This kit may be used to upgrade from TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to Certificate IV in Training and Assessment using Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Recognition of Current Competency (RCC), and/or Direct Credit Transfer for units from another qualification or accredited course. Introduction People learn and achieve competencies through a variety of learning experiences. This may include formal training and education, work experience and life experience. You are encouraged to seek recognition of existing competencies, rather than repeating unnecessary training. You can seek recognition for a whole qualification or individual units within a qualification. It is recommended if you are seeking recognition for parts of a qualification, you only do so for complete units. What Options Are Available? There are four potential options, which may apply to your circumstances: Direct Credit Transfer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) Any combination of the above Direct Credit Transfer In some cases, previous formal training courses may provide direct credit transfer for the competency sought. You will need to provide a certified copy of the certificate issued for the previous training. QTS will recognise the Statements of Attainment and Certificates for nationally recognised training which have been issued to you by other Registered Training Organisations. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) RPL involves recognition of previous training courses and education which has been undertaken in the past. You must provide a certified copy of your Statements of Attainment or Certificates, plus a copy of course outcomes or a listing of the units undertaken within courses and qualifications. Please note if you are providing qualifications or courses from more than five years ago, you will need to support those with evidence of current application of the skills assessed. You are encouraged to map the performance criteria of the existing qualifications (previous courses) to the performance criteria of the training course in which RPL is being sought. Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) This involves recognition of previous working history and experience. You will need to provide a copy of your resume and a formal position description for each relevant position you have occupied (this should be obtained from the employer). These may be supported by written references from previous employers or supervisors that outline experience relevant to the competency, and work examples which are relevant to the competency being sought. You will need to map your existing skills to the performance criteria of the training course in which RPL is being sought. You may also need to undertake an assessment (examination or challenge test) to prove you have the relevant competencies. Demonstration of equivalent competence
What evidence is Required? To obtain recognition, you will need to provide certified copies of relevant documents (i.e. witnessed by a Justice of the Peace or Commissioner for Declarations and suitably signed). If the qualifications were issued by QTS, the copy does not need to be certified. Documents used as evidence may include: University Degrees or Nationally Recognised Qualifications (eg: Certificate III, Diploma, etc) Statements of Attainment for partial completion of a qualification Statements of Attainment for nationally recognised short courses Statements of Attendance / Achievement etc for non-nationally recognised courses (including what was covered in the course eg: outcomes, competencies, performance criteria, etc) Resumes, job descriptions, referee reports, etc Actual work samples, ensuring you are the author, or your name appears on the documentation as facilitator, contributor, or similar. Depending on the electives chosen within your TAA40104 qualification, you may only have to attach a certified copy of that certificate. The Application Process Compare your existing qualifications and experiences to the information in the tables below, which are provided for the course in which you are seeking recognition. Contact QTS to discuss any queries and receive further guidance if necessary. When you are ready: Complete the enrolment form attached. Complete this RPL kit and attach certified copies of evidence.
