2 TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Workplace training is your first step to improving your career and embracing a new qualification without leaving the office. About this document Firstly, this document is useful. It s not a marketing tool. Treat it as pre-reading for your course and you ll start your learning with confidence and familiarity. Training and Assessment (TAA04) Overview The TAA04 Training and Assessment Training Package represents part of the continuing cycle of quality improvement in Training Packages. The impact of this Training Package is wide-ranging, potentially affecting: Individuals seeking to undertake training and assessment qualifications and units of competency Individuals undertaking professional or staff development Individuals seeking to extend, enhance and complement existing qualifications RTOs and staff intending to deliver and/or assess the TAA04 Training and Assessment Training Package All RTOs and other organisations providing training and assessment to internal staff and/or external clients Organisational quality management systems for training and assessment services The content of other Training Packages and training products through importation of TAA units The quality of implementation of those Training Packages The work of bodies and authorities that manage the VET system (via the nexus of this Training Package with key policies such as competency based training [CBT] and frameworks such as the NTF and the AQTF. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Overview of this qualification This is the popular Cert IV course. This relatively new qualification has been greatly expanded from its predecessor, the old Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training BSZ98. It s a lot more comprehensive and there s so much more to learn. Put simply, it takes twice as long to complete. The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment specifies the competencies required to deliver training in an industry area or area of subject matter expertise, and to conduct competency-based assessment in a range of contexts. 3 Course Structure The Cert IV in TAA is comprised of 14 units of competency consisting or 12 Core units and 2 Electives. The following units are covered on the Certificate IV in TAA course: Core Units for TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Code Title Subject Description TAAENV401A Work effectively in vocational education and training Work effectively in the policy and operating environment of the vocational education and training sector. TAAENV402A Foster and promote an inclusive learning culture Foster and promote an environment which supports inclusive work practices and learning culture. TAAENV403A Ensure a healthy and safe learning environment Ensure the health, safety and welfare of learners and candidates. TAADES401A Use Training Packages to meet client needs Use Training Packages and accredited courses as a tool to support industry, organisation or individual competency development needs. TAADES402A Design and develop learning programs Conceptualise, design, develop and evaluate learning programs to meet an identified need for a group of learners, using appropriate criteria. TAADEL401A Plan and organise group-based delivery Plan and organise training for individuals within a group. TAADEL403A Facilitate individual learning Facilitate individual learning through a one-on-one relationship between a learner and facilitator. TAADEL404A Facilitate work-based learning Use work effectively as a learning process. TAAASS401A Plan and organise assessment Plan and organise the assessment process in a competency-based assessment system. TAAASS402A Assess competence Assess the competence of a candidate TAAASS403A Develop assessment Develop assessment tools. tools TAAASS404A Participate in assessment validation Participate in an assessment validation process. 4 Learner Training Material The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA) Toolbox has been developed for the Certificate IV qualification, which was endorsed by the National Training Authority as part of the Training and Assessment Training Package. The toolbox electronic program is divided into four streams; Learning Design, Delivery and Facilitation, Learning Environment and Assessment. These align with the unit codes and focus areas within the new Certificate IV qualification. Each unit contains one or more "projects" for the learner to complete, facilitating the process of evidence gathering towards a demonstration of competency. A user-friendly Skills Recognition option has also been developed, and learners have the option to negotiate a workplace-based assessment task to replace the project offered in the Toolbox. Do I have to work in the City? No, If you are a distance student, you will receive a full induction into the Certificate IV in TAA Distance Learning Program by your personal qualified teacher. Your teacher will ensure you have the Toolbox program and all your resources to complete the Certificate IV within 20 weeks. You will also make a series of appointments with your teacher for one-on-one fortnightly telephone, or face to face sessions to keep you motivated and on track with your learning agreement. How do I get assessed? As you progress through the course you will be expected to complete assessment tasks allocated by your teacher and submit them within the required timeframe. All assessment activities should be attempted and submitted unless otherwise authorised by your teacher (e.g. you have made arrangements to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning). To achieve your Cert IV in TAA qualification you must provide evidence that you meet the competency standard for each unit. Competence means having the skill and knowledge to correctly carry out a task, a skill, or a function to the required standard. This includes an ability to apply the required skills, knowledge and attributes in a workplace context. Your teacher will provide you with ample support and guidance regarding your assessment. Every unit also has a assessment outline to follow. Your teacher will review your evidence against the Cert IV in TAA competency standards and assess your performance as either Competent or Not Yet Competent for each individual Cert IV in TAA unit. Competent indicates that you have achieved the required competency standard. Not Yet Competent indicates that some aspect(s) of the competency standard have not been demonstrated at that point in time. It is to be in no way considered a fail and usually Version Control V00005 September 2008 Page 4 of 6

5 implies nothing more than a requirement to submit further evidence to demonstrate competency. If you are assessed as Not Yet Competent for any unit you will be provided with an opportunity to apply the feedback received from your teacher and submit further evidence for assessment. Portfolio of your work One of the ways you can demonstrate that you possess the required skills, knowledge and attributes is to compile a portfolio of evidence. A portfolio contains evidence that demonstrates your ability to perform a task, with the evidence mapped or cross referenced against the relevant competency standards. Evidence could be: Oral Questioning from Work booklet Certificates outlines from other non-accredited training organisations Internal Industry Training List Recognition of qualification issued by another RTO Formal Qualifications accredited Training Hardcopy or Electric Items of community service work This a 3 rd party report. Eg. This is a letter from someone else (usually a manager) that states your competence Submitting your work First you must complete all the assessments in the Assessment Outline, Toolbox or supply information for RPL, then sign the bottom of the Assessment Outline before you sent it to us The assessment tasks can be completed on a word document or completed in the Toolbox and printed or save to CD. The last page called Record of Assessment must be electronically sign or print out and manual signed. The CD, printed material or assessment pages should be attached to the assessment package outline in a large A4 envelope, seal and the student name, student number be written on the front of the envelope. Just post it to CSIT and we will have it assess and give you feedback within three weeks. Your portfolio of evidence for RPL should be included will and other assessment take completed. If you are require to fill in the gaps will some assessment, then you have 21 days to complete this gap training to complete the unit. Assessment Extensions You are be expected to effectively plan and organise your portfolio of evidence, overcome barriers to completion and manage time constraints to submit your portfolio within the timeframe. Extensions will only be granted in extenuating circumstances. You will be expected to apply in writing (via , fax or post) to the CSIT Executive Director and request an extension at least 48 hours prior to your assessment deadline. 6 English language, literacy and other skill requirements You should be aware that your assessment will require effective language, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to write a range of documentation. However, we do offer special condition for people with a disability. All you need to do to receive assistance, is to provided a week after enrolment supporting documentation from appropriate qualified professional providing the following information: 1: the nature of the disability or medical condition and 2: the impact on your study. We will contact you to develop a plan that will assist you with your study. Upgrading through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) RPL / Gap training combo is available to upgrade BSZ holders to TAA. Upgrading to the new Certificate IV in TAA is easy with CSIT RPL process and gap training options. MORE QUESTIONS?
