2 TAE40110: Certificate IV in Training and Assessment This qualification has replaced the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAA40104 (if you have this qualification please speak to your lecturer upon enrolment) In broad terms, the qualifications presented in TAE10 Training and Education Training Package reflect the view that training delivered in the VET environment is in fact a component of the wider educational delivery footprint. In addition, while the market for qualifications in the training package versions that preceded this Training Package tended towards delivery in a workplace context, the evolution of the package reflects recognition that the delivery of training and education in a VET context requires wider and more diverse skills, knowledge and competence. In conjunction with this, is the growing understanding that career pathways in the VET sector also involve management and leadership as well as market development, and in particular for Australian enterprises, the export market. A particular issue with TAE40110 Certificate IV Training and Assessment is the target market for this qualification. While there are many applications where Certificate IV qualifications can be identified as being fit-for-purpose for a wide client base, this qualification assumes that the learner is engaged in a training and education environment or has a vocational skill at a level that supports training and education in the subject area in which it is intended to teach. This qualification reflects the roles of individuals delivering training and assessment services in the vocational education and training (VET) sector. Achievement of this qualification or an equivalent by trainers and assessors is a requirement of the Australian Quality Training Framework Essential Standards for Registration (Standard 1 as outlined in Appendix 2 of the Users' Guide to the Essential Standards for Registration). This qualification, or the skill sets derived from units of competency within it, is also suitable preparation for those engaged in the delivery of training and assessment of competence in a workplace context, as a component of a structured VET program. After achieving TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, candidates may undertake TAA50104 Diploma of Training and Assessment or may choose to undertake TAE70110 Vocational Graduate Certificate in Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice. What do I need prior to enrolling The Certificate IV TAE is provided in clustered facilitated sessions, because of this format you will be required to complete readings prior to attending the sessions and assessment tasks once the sessions have been completed. You are required to have a sound understanding of word processing and be able to use the internet. You MUST have a workplace that you can carry out training and assessment in. You MUST have the Certificate 1 in Information Technology or equivlant skills to enrol in the program. If you don t have this level of computer skills you will have difficulties completing the program. 3 Delivery approach The delivery approach will depend on your personal requirements. Two options are provided for you to select from. (Monday workshops or Tuesday nights). You must complete the Individual Learning Program attached indicating your selection of delivery dates and times and forward a signed copy back to the Coordinator before commencing. The options that are provided are either : Tuesday nights (5.30pm 8.30pm) Monday workshop ( 9am 4pm) All classes will be held in Room B002 You are able to select various options as long as you complete the cluster in order e.g. cluster 1 first at night and then move to cluster 2 for workshop sessions. The program will be face to face or workshop based. Once you have attended a session or workshop you will be required to complete some in class work and workplace tasks before attending the next session. It is essential that work it completed on time and before attending the next session as it will relate and enable progress to the next session. Course overview Total number of units = 10 7 core units plus 3 elective units At least 2 elective units must be selected from the elective units listed below. One elective unit may be selected from any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course. Elective units must be relevant to the work outcome, local industry requirements and the qualification level. Where a unit is chosen from another currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course, it must be from a qualification or course at Certificate III level or above, and must contribute towards the vocational outcome of the program. The clusters reflect the units of competency that are completed together for study and in the workplace. This will be confirmed by your lecturer the week prior. Assessment Assessment of the program will be a combination of in class activities and workplace training and assessment tasks. It is essential that you have relevant industry qualifications or experience and that you are able to have a workplace to use for your assessments. 5 Booklist and materials Identify any resources the client is required to purchase including: Text books to be purchased from the book shop. (Books are to be purchased prior to commencing the program) The total cost of the full Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) A note book, highlighter, pen and USB memory stick etc. You MUST have a workplace that you can carry out training and assessment in. Check the website to access College forms, course information and resources access through the library online section. The TAE40110 : Certificate IV in Training and Assessment uses the College website extensively to complete assessments and course work. It is important that you have access to this website when you are not at the College. Student services The Client Services (Student Services) Team are here to assist students and College clients with relevant information, providing a smooth transition into study and access to relevant College areas. Refer to the Factpack 2011 for more information and a list of contacts. Ciba tek centre The Learning Resource and Technology Centre is able to provide you with 24 hour access to modern computing facilities through the Ciba Tek Centre. The centre is available to all students for a fee per semester and for a fee students can also obtain Internet access (limits do apply). You will find a wide range of software, a scanner, printer and more available for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Results & application for award Students will receive their results on their Statement of Academic Record, which is posted to your address, four (4) times per year. Statements of Attainment can also be provided which list the competencies achieved by the student in a particular course. If you have lost or damaged your Academic Record or Statement of Attainment, a reprint can be issued for a small charge. To receive your Award you will need to complete an Application for Award form and present the Certificate IV in TAE TAE40110/Course Info /Semester 2/2011 V1 KG Page 5 of 7

6 completed application form to either your lecturer or at the front reception in Student Administration. Recognition of Prior Learning If you believe you have skills in the units in the Certificate IV Training and Assessment please discuss the options of recognition of prior learning.
