11 TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Program Information Use of workplace observers As part the some of the assessments, observers from the candidate s workplace might be asked to observe individual and group training sessions that candidates deliver. Workplace observers must be qualified assessors They must have either TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or the Assessor Skill Set from the TAE10 Training Package Observers are provided with guided instruction on how and what to observe and how to complete the observation documentation. If a candidate doesn t have access to a qualified workplace observer, TAE Institute will arrange a suitable alternative Some examples of suitable alternatives and reasonable adjustments are listed below: Site visit TAE Institute could send a qualified TAE assessor to the candidate s workplace and observe them directly, in a face-to-face situation. 12 Program Information TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Keep it real (or realistic)! The purpose of the projects is to assess your ability to perform in real realistic working conditions Each project must be based on a real or realistic (simulated) workplace scenario relevant to your area of expertise. Ideally, you can base your projects on real workplace activities. If you are not currently working, or if you can t base your projects on your real workplace, you may contrive a realistic scenario. For help, discuss your ideas with your program leader or assessor. Can I use work recently completed as the basis for a project? Yes you can. For more information see the Frequently-Asked-Questions section of this document, starting on page 15. Requirements for satisfactory completion of each project To obtain a satisfactory result for each project: all required evidence must be submitted and all evidence must be of a satisfactory standard. Each project includes guidance notes Guidance notes appear in blue, italic font. Guidance notes list the assessment criteria assessors will use when reviewing the work you submit. Please refer to these notes as you complete assigned tasks and ensure that the work you submit complies with the criteria listed. Page 12 TAE Program Information V7
13 TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Program Information Third party reference What is the third party reference? The third party reference is a short questionnaire that a suitable third party referee should complete. By completing the third party reference questionnaire, your referee will: verify authenticity of the evidence you provide (i.e. to verify that you not someone else completed the required assessment tasks) make general comments about the degree to which the assessment tasks you complete reflect the way you typically approach this type of work. Selecting a third party referee Your third party referee should have expertise in training and assessment or the industry in which you work. An appropriate referee may be: (preferred) a supervisor (or equivalent) from your current workplace, OR a customer, a mentor, or someone who may or may not work with you. They must not be related to you and they must be able to make general comments about the work you have completed for the assessment. If you have any trouble identifying a suitable third party referee, discuss your concerns with your trainer. We ll be able to work something out. Detailed instructions for the third party referee Detailed instructions for the third party referee are found in the assessment booklet for each module. More questions? If you or the third party referee have any questions about the third party reference, ask your TAE trainer or contact TAE Institute. We ll be happy to help. Compiling your assessment portfolios The assessment portfolio you submit must be well-organised, or it will be returned to you. Follow the instructions in the Portfolio Document to compile your portfolio, this checklist will be distributed in class. 1. If submitting your portfolio in hard copy, do not submit individual pages in plastic sleeves. Your assessor will write comments on your work; plastic sleeves make this hard. 2. Make a back-up copy of your portfolio before submitting it, especially if submitting a hard copy portfolio. We cannot be responsible for portfolios lost or damaged in transit. If all evidence is of a SATISFACTORY standard If any evidence is of a NOT YET SATISFACTORY standard The assessment result is COMPETENT The assessment result is NOT YET COMPETENT In this case, relax! You may be re-assessed, and there s plenty of support available. 5. 15 TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Program Information Frequently asked questions What is my assessment deadline? Assessments for each module should be submitted within six months after the start of training for that module. Where do I send completed assessment tasks? Please send completed assessment tasks to P O Box 5025 Erina Fair NSW What if I can t submit my completed assessment tasks by the deadline? The sooner after training you complete your assessment tasks, the easier it will be to complete them; but we know how busy life can get, and are happy to offer a reasonable extension if needed. Contact TAE Institute as soon as possible to negotiate a revised deadline that is workable for all. May I use work I have already done as the evidence for assigned assessment tasks? Yes, you may use work previously completed as the evidence for assigned assessment tasks, provided: the work was completed recently (i.e. within the past 12 months or so), and you can provide all the required evidence listed in the assessment task, and the evidence is of a satisfactory standard (see the blue guidance notes in the evidence required section of the assessment task). Please discuss your options with your trainer. I m not currently working as a trainer/assessor. How can I complete the projects? Relax! Many candidates are in your situation, and we are very experienced in helping our clients create real or simulated ( realistic ) opportunities to complete assessments. Some options include: Time permitting, you may be able to complete some tasks during training Your trainer can work with you to identify suitable scenarios you can base assessment tasks on. We re very good at helping you be creative. Discuss your concerns with your trainer. TAE Program Information V7 Page 15
16 Program Information TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment I m not sure I can complete the assessment tasks as described. Do you offer any flexibility? Yes, we re flexible! If it would help make the assessment more accessible to you, we re happy to make a reasonable adjustment to the assessment process. We can t compromise the quality of the assessment, though. Please discuss your options with your trainer. What are the possible assessment results? The only possible assessment results you can get for each unit are: Results for individual assessment activities or items of evidence Each item of evidence submitted will be marked as S or NYS Satisfactory S The quality of evidence submitted is of a satisfactory standard Not yet satisfactory NYS Overall result for each TAE40110 unit The quality of evidence submitted is not of a satisfactory standard, or the required evidence was not submitted. The overall result to be awarded for each unit will be C or NYC Competent C Celebrate! All required evidence was submitted, and all evidence was of a satisfactory quality. You have earned a statement of attainment for the unit/s of competency assessed. Not yet competent NYC There are two possible reasons for a NYC result: The evidence you submitted was of a satisfactory standard but not all the required evidence was submitted (in this case, all you need to do is submit the remaining required evidence) The evidence you submitted was not of a satisfactory standard (in this case, you ll be asked to re-submit the evidence that was not of a satisfactory standard) If you attain a NYC result, your assessor will work with you to devise a suitable action plan to achieve competence. Remember that we aren t here to fail you our intent is to keep working with you until you achieve competency. Will my assessment records be kept confidential? Yes! Assessment records are stored securely, and won t be shared with anyone who is not authorised to view them. Will I get my portfolio back once the assessment has been completed? No, your portfolio is not returned to you. You need to keep a copy of your portfolio before you submit it to TAE Institute. Page 16 TAE Program Information V7
