2013 Corporate Sponsorship Guide
AV200 is a 200 mile, two-day charity bike ride across Georgia AV200 started in 2003 by a group of Atlanta cyclists who wanted to move the cause of HIV/AIDS forward and finally end the devastating disease. It is devoted to the memories of close ones that were lost. Now in it s 11th year, the AV200 has raised over $1,000,000 for HIV/AIDS research. Almost 200 riders and 150 volunteers from all over the USA raised almost $300,000 in 2012 Thanks to generous support from businesses like yours, 100% of funds raised by riders are able to go directly to research AV200 partners with the local Atlanta charities AID Atlanta and Jerusalem House
An estimated 34 Million people worldwide are living with HIV or AIDS 2 Million people die each year from AIDS or AIDS related causes AIDS is still the leading cause of death in Sub-Saharan Africa and the fourth leading cause of death worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), most people living with HIV or at risk for HIV do not have access to prevention, care, and treatment, and there is still no cure. The HIV epidemic not only affects the health of individuals, it impacts households, communities, and the development and economic growth of nations. Many of the countries hardest hit by HIV also suffer from other infectious diseases, food insecurity, and other serious problems. While so much progress has been made to treat HIV, the fight is not over. We need to find a solution to end HIV once and for all. Only a Vaccine can do that.
Dear Potential Sponsor, On behalf of Emory Vaccine Center, thank you for considering Sponsorship of the 2013 AV200 fundraising ride. This is a unique opportunity to be part of something that will truly change the world as we know it. Please allow me to summarize our progress so far... ---Jonathan Russell Emory Vaccine Center The Emory Vaccine Center is the largest academic vaccine research center in the world, with 35 full time faculty members and 250 staff. We take a comprehensive approach to vaccine research: basic immunology and virology, programs for specific disease, human trials, and vaccine policy. Emory is at the forefront of the global fight to treat and cure HIV/AIDS, working in collaboration with other universities, governments and private industry. We were the first university in the world to have an HIV vaccine in human trials, which are ongoing. 94% of HIV-positive people on drug therapy in the United States take a form of Emtriva, a drug developed at Emory University. Greater understanding of our immune system through research at the EVC has already led to unexpected breakthroughs in areas outside HIV including cancer treatment and auto-immune diseases. Donations are used to support and train the next generation of HIV researchers as seed grants for novel ideas. This generates data needed to be eligible for prestigious federal grants. Every dollar of private funding at the EVC has lead to $17 in federal research funds in the future.
