Descrition The SDxxC TS diodes are designed to relace multilayer varistors (MLs) in ortable alications such as cell hones, notebook comuters, and DA s. They offer suerior electrical characteristics such as lower claming voltage and no device degradation when comared to MLs. The SDxxC series TS diodes are designed to rotect sensitive semiconductor comonents from damage or uset due to electrostatic discharge (ESD) and other voltage induced transient events. The SDxxC is in a SOD-323 ackage and will rotect one bidirectional line. They are available with working voltages of 5-24 volts. These devices will fit on the same C ad area as an 0805 ML device. They give the designer the flexibility to rotect one line in alications where arrays are not ractical. Additionally, it may be srinkled around the board in alications where board sace is at a remium. They may may be used to meet the ESD immunity requirements of IEC 600-4-2, Level 4 (±15k air, ±8k contact discharge). Alications Information Device Connection Otions The SDxxC TS diodes are designed to rotect one data, I/O, or ower suly line. The device is designed to relace multi-layer varistors (MLs) in ortable alications. It is easily imlemented on existing 0805 ML ads and is only slightly larger than 0603 ML ads. The device is bidirectional and may be used on lines where the signal olarity is above and below ground. The device is symmetrical, so there is no cathode band. Circuit oard Layout Recommendations for Suression of ESD. Good circuit board layout is critical for the suression of fast rise-time transients such as ESD. The following guidelines are recommended (Refer to alication note SI99-01 for more detailed information): lace the TS near the inut terminals or connectors to restrict transient couling. Minimize the ath length between the TS and the rotected line. The ESD transient return ath to ground should be ket as short as ossible. lace a TS and decouling caacitor between ower and ground of comonents that may be vulnerable to electrostatic discharges to the ground lane. Minimize all conductive loos including ower and ground loos. Use multilayer boards when ossible. Minimize interconnecting line lengths Never run critical signals near board edges. Fill unused ortions of the C with ground lane. A matte tin finish is comosed of 0% tin solder with large grains. Since the solder volume on the leads is small comared to the solder aste volume that is laced on the land attern of the C, the reflow rofile will be determined by the requirements of the solder aste. Therefore, these devices are comatible with both lead- and Snb assembly techniques.
