GENERAL INFORMATION EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course learners should be able to: Apply strategies to respond to the parent or patient who declines immunizations. Assess and treat patients with tickborne infections, including Lyme Disease. Recognize epidemiologic and clinical clues to several emerging infectious diseases. Evaluate the patient presenting to primary care practice with fever of unknown cause. Prevent HIV transmission through the appropriate use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Explain when antibiotics are not necessary for common community acquired infections. Discuss the latest advances in management of HIV infected patients. Apply strategies to effectively diagnose and treat latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). Describe clinical findings that indicate complicated pharyngitis presentations (e.g. epiglottitis, parapharyngeal abscess). Treat sexually transmitted diseases according to the most recent CDC guidelines. Purpose and Intended Audience This course is designed for primary care physicians, including specialists in family practice, internal medicine, and pediatrics; clinical microbiologists; pharmacists, nurses; and individuals in training for these careers. Lectures and interactive workshops will provide an update on the current, state-ofthe-art diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases that commonly arise in adults and/ or children in the community and which would routinely be encountered by primary care physicians in the Midwest. Registration Fees All fees include registration, instruction and educational materials, CME and CEU recording, continental breakfast, lunch, and refreshment breaks. While registration is open until the start of the conference, we encourage early registration to enable us to provide the best possible service to participants. A $25 fee will be charged for canceled registrations. No refunds will be given for cancelations made after April 3, 2015. A late fee of $50 will be added for all registrations made after April 24, 2016. Rates are not guaranteed.

Syllabus Materials Course syllabus materials will be emailed as a link to registered participants the week of the conference. Print copies of the syllabus will not be provided. You are encouraged to download or print materials you wish to use in advance. You may also bring your laptop. A limited number of outlets are available so you are encouraged to have a fully charged battery. Parking Parking is available in the public ramp adjacent to the hotel at prevailing rates. The ramp is on the corner of Burlington and Dubuque Streets. Continuing Education Credit Physician: The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Family Physician: Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending. Nurse:.71 CEUs will be granted by University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing (IBN Approved Provider #34). Participants must attend the entire program to receive full credit. Pharmacist: The Collaborative Education Institute is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Following completion of the online activity exam and evaluation (accessible at www.gotocei. org via a CPE Access Code following the activity), participants will be able to access their CPE Statement of Credit on CPE Monitor, www.mycpemonitor. net, no partial credit given.
