ROTECTION RODUCTS Descrition The LCDAxxC-8 has been secifically designed to rotect sensitive comonents which are connected to data and transmission lines from over voltages caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFT), and lightning. The low caacitance array configuration of the LCDAxxC-8 allows the user to rotect eight high-seed data or I/O lines. They may be used on systems oerating from 5 to 15 olts. The high surge caability (5W, t=8/µs) makes the LCDAxxC-8 suitable for telecommunications systems oerating in harsh transient environments. The low inductance construction minimizes voltage overshoot during high current surges. The features of the LCDAxxC-8 are ideal for rotecting multi-rotocol transceivers in WAN alications such as Frame Relay systems, routers, and switches. ROTECTION RODUCTS Alications Information Device Connection Otions for rotection of Eight High-Seed Data Lines Device Connection The LCDAxxC-8 may be configured to rotect u to eight I/O lines oerating between 5 and 15. It may be used to rotect the most oular serial data interface standard lines making it ideal for use in equiment utilizing multi-mode transceivers. The LCDAxxC-8 is symmetrical so the data lines may be connected at ins 1-8 or 9-16. ins 9-16 or 1-8 are connected to ground as shown. For best results, these ins should be connected directly to a ground lane on the board. The ath length should be ket as short as ossible to minimize arasitic inductance. Multi-Mode Transceiver rotection The LCDAxxC-8 may be used to rotect multi-mode transceiver I/O lines with external connections. The LCDAxxC-8 adds a maximum loading caacitance of 15F with a working voltage of 12 or 15. This allows the transceiver to safely oerate in all modes without cliing or degradation of the signal. With roer design and layout, the transceiver ort can be rotected to >15k (HBM er IEC 6-4-2). Circuit Board Layout Recommendations for Suression of ESD. Good circuit board layout is critical for the suression of fast rise-time transients such as ESD. The following guidelines are recommended: lace the LCDAxxC-8 near the inut terminals or connectors to restrict transient couling. Minimize the ath length between the LCDAxxC-8 and the rotected line. Minimize all conductive loos including ower and ground loos. The ESD transient return ath to ground should be ket as short as ossible. Never run critical signals near board edges. Use ground lanes whenever ossible. Matte Tin Lead Finish Matte tin has become the industry standard lead-free relacement for Snb lead finishes. A matte tin finish is comosed of % tin solder with large grains. Since the solder volume on the leads is small comared to the solder aste volume that is laced on the land attern of the CB, the reflow rofile will be determined by the requirements of the solder aste. Therefore, these devices are comatible with both lead-free and Snb assembly techniques. In addition, unlike other lead-free comositions, matte tin does not have any added alloys that can cause degradation of the solder joint. 5 Semtech Cor. 4
