PROGRAM DESCRIPTION This continuing medical education course is designed to provide general and community based gastroenterology physicians, general, internal medicine and family medicine physicians, physician s assistants and nurse practitioners an opportunity to learn about and discuss the advances in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with liver disease and luminal GI diseases. Saturday lectures will cover topics on primary biliary cirrhosis/ primary sclerosing cholangitis, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, mucosal resection in the colon, surgical management of pancreatic cancer, H. pylori, new therapies for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, management of liver lesions, optimal candidates and contraindications for TIPS, technologies for small bowel GI bleeding evaluation, advances in achalasia treatment: POEM, surgical management of rectal lesions/cancer, alternatives for colorectal cancer screening and new medications in IBD therapy. Both Friday and Saturday will include a Resident poster symposium and Friday evening there will be a hands-on workshop showing endoscopic techniques for two hours of CME credit. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES n Understanding the role of endoscopic mucosal resection in the colon n Understand the role of surgical management in the treatment of pancreatic cancer n Determine the role of H. pylori in the development of gastrointestinal disease n Recognize the use of new therapies for treatment of NASH n Distinguish the imaging characteristics, natural history and medical management of liver lesions n Recognize imaging and presentation of hepatocellular carcinoma n Identify the contraindications and optimal characteristics of candidates for TIPS n Understand the TIPS complications associated with hepatic encephalopathy n Recognize new and conventional technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of small bowel GI bleeding n Understand the risks and benefits of EMR In the management of gastrointestinal polyps n Recognize emerging surgical therapies for treatment of rectal lesions and cancers n Discriminate between various colorectal cancer screening modalities n Distinguish new treatment options for inflammatory bowel disease n Recognize the pathophysiology of non-celiac gluten sensitivity n Identify diagnostics and therapies for primary sclerosing cholangitis and primary biliary cirrhosis
